Fantastic Rich, both the watch and the pics :thumbright:
Have to say when handling this today the size didn't feel at all like 47mm, very deceptive. Still not sure about the bezel but the dial is 8)
I can feel a Panerai phase coming on
I wasn't planning anything else until the end of the year, but I'm a hopeless case and so when this came up I had to have it. 3 weeks later and I finally collected it this morning before the Sussex get-together. My new Panerai 305 :)
When this watch was first released I wasn't all that keen on it, TBH. Yes, a 47mm 1950 case in Ti sounded lovely, but no "12" or "6" on the dial? That was hard to accept  Over the next 12 months or so however I saw more and more pictures of it and it started to grow on me, and then when I was at Selfridges last month I noticed they had one. I hadn't seen one in the metal before so I asked to have a play, and was hugely impressed.
My big criticism of the 1000m rated Panerai has always been that while (IMO at least) they are lovely watches, they have thick crystals & wide bezels, and as a result quite small dials. They can also be a little tall & top heavy to be completely comfortable. My 87 suffers with this, and that is the reason I'd resisted the 243 in the past. It was very obvious when placing the 305 side by side with the 243 (44mm 1950 case in steel, 1000m rated) that this is not the case here. The extra 3mm case size of the 305, combined with the fact it's only rated to 300m means the dial is so much bigger, and the case a little shallower. Very comfortable on the wrist, and of course very legible. After seeing the two side by side in Selfridges I knew there and then I would have to have one. Damn :?
The movement is Panerai's in-house calibre 9000. This is the same movement as has been in the 312 for some time now. An automatic with 3 day power reserve - 28 jewels and 28,800 bph. Nothing particularly impressive, and not particularly pretty either, but functional. The nice surprise (for me at least - I didn't expect this) is that the hour hand can be set in one hour jumps without hacking the watch, so while there is no GMT hand it's still quite a useful function for those 2 days a year when the clocks change :D
Anyway, enough talking. Below are a few more pictures I took this afternoon when I got home. I hope you like them ;)
and of course the obligatory wrist shot (fortunately my 8" wrist is big enough)
Fantastic Rich, both the watch and the pics :thumbright:

Beautiful.
Does this mean, that we will soon see a certain other PAM on SC? :D
Best looking Sub Pam I've seen - but your wrists seem a little bigger than mine - not sure I could carry it off so well.
What is RRP on one of these?
It's just a matter of time...
Lovely. Tried this on at the GTG earlier. Looks great now it's on a 'proper' strap :D
Cheers,
Peter.
Nice watch but really love the brown strap :) very smart
Bloody Hell Rich!
Stunning watch and fantastic pics!
looks lovely and great pictures as well ,enjoy it and i m really not a panerai fan but really like it.
Fantastic piece ! The pics needs some work though.
:D
A beauty mate. Personally I love the dial markers in place of digits.
But please Rich, get it off that tatty old strap in the last photo. No smiley, I'm serious
I love these, if they made a 44mm one i'd have bought it instantly, they just have such a lovely clean dial, with the new movement giving it a little bit more than the old subs.
As for the dial, it is a little different, but you can see they were looking at the old 2533 when they designed it, so it does actually have some of the old DNA in there, just like the 3646 dials that we see on modern watches.
Very nice if only it was 44mm  just a tad too big my wrists sadly.
Great pics as per.... :thumbleft:
Had a fondle of this at the GTG today and it's very nice indeed - large, but very nice 8)
Thanks guys :)
I really didn't want to like this watch so much, but once I'd seen it in the metal there was really no fighting it. I'm used to wearing 47mm watches so the size isn't an issue for me (actually I quite like the size), and it is very comfy to wear.
My wife took one look when I got back this afternoon and said "but you have one of those already!"
I did warn you. It can get addictive :lol:Originally Posted by Jay

But as for SC, I don't think it's going to happen :D
My wrist is just over 8", so not small. It is a big watch, no getting away from that, but wears very comfortably. RRP is Ł5900, but i was lucky and got it a bit cheaper than that (I hope Mrs Toshi isn't reading this :? )Originally Posted by Omegamanic
It's not going to happen, Steve. The strap is perfect for it IMO.Originally Posted by burnsey66
I have a rather special buckle en route too. More on that when it arrives in a couple of weeks (hopefully)
Very nice Rich, the clean dial and open hands do look amazing :)
That is a beauty Rich :) How does it wear compared to the Fondale? I can just about get away with that on my midget wrist...
Sanj
Very nice, great pics! 8)

Rich, when you get tired of that ladies model, move onto the bigger models :D

Rich has already spoken to them about it - closed the phone call with 'I'll be back' :lol:Originally Posted by Argee1977

Sanjay, if you can wear a Fondale this will be easy. The two watches are the same size as far as case diameter is concerned obviously, but the 305 is not as tall and sits closer to the wrist. It doesn't seem as big.Originally Posted by sparmar1
The light has gone now, but I'll try to take a coupe of pics tomorrow of the 305 and my Fondale together to show the difference in height.
very nice, Rich...congrats on the new arrival.
have to say it is a beauty, saw it in the flesh and had a fiddle  very very nice.
cheers

I think 47mm is about as much as I can get away with :lol:Originally Posted by Chris_in_the_UK
not that I could afford it anyway :?

Not being the biggest Panerai fan, I fell for the 305 last month, it's just a top watch. I had to it back, as it was just too big for my wrist, but there's no doubt in my mind, that it's the best looking Pam from the Submersible range, and nicer than the Pam25 that I settled for.

Very nice indeed - I have seen a similar dial on a "prototype" 3646 from the 1930's.
However I struggle to understand the reference to 1950 - Panerai never made a watch like this in the 50's
However still a very nice watch indeed. Enjoy.

Nice watch and great photography. I've been reading Panerai related posts for a couple of days gathering info, so just what I needed... Unfortunately I don't think I could get away with the 47mm. Wear it in health! 8)
It came as no surprise when I heard that Rich had got one of these; I saw his reaction when he played with the one in Selfridges, and it was obvious that a little bit of the future had been written
It's a beauty, and one of the few watches that makes me wish I had larger wrists (and deeper pockets :) )
Am I really that easy to read, Bob? :lol:Originally Posted by Stanford
Rich, guess you have been diagnosed with Paneritis which for you is perfect, as the quick strap changing system was designed with you in mind. :D :D
The 305 is definitely on my grail list but need to try one on first due to my puny 7.5" wrists!
It looks bloody perfect on your wrist and the vintage strap looks awesome - congratulations!

Very nice Rich.
Have to say that I agree with your thoughts on previous subs with the face/bezel proportions, but will have to give them another look now - although 47mm could be pushing it a bit for me. I've my 45mm Rad, but I think that sits much lower.
Still prefer your 233, so will be interested to hear your thoughts after the honeymoon period is over as to whether it's been usurped as your favourite (I think you've previously stated the 233 to be your fav?)
Jeez Rich, that's a hefty looking timepiece.
Would love to see that next week at the 'bring and brag' if poss :thumbleft:
nice addition & excellent photos m8
A fantastic elegent Panerai. Normally I don't have a thing for Panerai, but this one looks great.
Good job on the pictures.
Lovely Rich, that's a bit of a dream watch of mine, funnily enough it was the non-numeric dial that first drew me to it. Going to be a bit controversial here though, I actually prefer it on the rubber than one of your splendid creations  . Don't worry though all other Panerais have looked nicer on leather :D Enjoy!
Thanks Jason. If you ever get into central London I'd be happy to meet up and you could try it. I've no doubt that a 7.5" wrist could carry it off ;)Originally Posted by Chinnock
Oh, I can answer that question already. The 233 is still my favourite. :)Originally Posted by darrenw
Will do, Peter. I think that now makes 3 wrists worth for me, too :lol:Originally Posted by PeterM

Only joking  It does look good on the rubber, but I really don't like rubber straps. I wore it on the accordian rubber yesterday until I got home, but much prefer it on leather, and the vintage strap is one I've had for a while (I actually made it for my 232 but it didn't suit it), and I think it looks good. Here's a pic that shows the strap slightly better (although it's not a good one of the watch)
Thats a very nice addition Rich and some cracking photo's.
I would need to do some serious workouts to manage a 47mm, thank goodness for the 24 & 25.
Too big for me but that is lovely 8) and seeing such great photographs makes me realise I need a better camera.
Yet another in love with the watch but too weedy and too poor to get one myself. Enjoy!
