    German Military watches...post war

The BMW thread has quietened down a bit, so gentlemen, here´s something else to view and discuss.
A few of my german post war Mil watches, starting with my favourite:
I´ll start with the Junghans, with the J88 movement. In my oppinion the most sought after!
The watch was issued from 1958 to the pilots of the Luftwaffe, the Jets that were flown at that time were Lockheed´s F-104 „Starfighter“

The Heuer H3 was the watch which took over after the Junghans.
I´ll spare you my explainations, because enough has already been written about the watch.
    Heuer
    Heuer Bund
    Heuer comparison
    Heuer on the dash
    Heuer Knirim

Orfina Porsche design Bund, Lemania 5100 Workhorse movement.
again here a link with more informatio about the watch
    Orfina Porsch design Bund

Orfina Porsche design Bund 3H dial and back

Here with the same movement, Lemania 5100, the Arctos Bund. They all look very much alike, that´s because the Bundeswehr had stringent specifications which they had to be made made to.

    Tutima Bund

Well the two that are still evading me are the old Tutima and Hanhart, which are identical to the issued watches from the second world war.

    Very nice indeed.

I love the Junghans and at one point very nearly went for one... I really like the Orfina PD and regularly wear one (3H model, though I've also had the sterile dial version, too (mil. issue)- I like them more than the Tutima, which I've also had, although they are nevertheless wonderful watches(-just a personal preference).

    Thanks for sharing,
    Br,

    AP.

    Hi AP,
I love the Junghans and at one point very nearly went for one.
    You should have gone for it, its the most comfortable of the Bund watches to wear, very light , and just beautiful...and getting rarer and more expensive every year. The Lemania watches i.e. Arctos, Orfina, Tutima etc. are too thick and too heavy for my likings, compared to a Submarier for example;

I've always liked those Heuers - Great looking watch. (Did I see a piccie of a Kemner homage to them recently?)
Did Heuer ever do a version of the Bund with a date (or day/date) window - I can only find Day/Dates appearing once Sinn took up the mantle? I'd love one of those.

Nice collection of post war German military watches.

Thanks for the compilation - interesting. The Lemanias are a thick movement - but I doubt the Bund straps will help!

Cheers - nice to see them strung out for comparison.

Thanks for the post. Very interesting. Really like the look of the Junghans especially the shaped bezel.

No, Heuer never did a day/date for the Bundeswehr, and yes you did see a Kemmner copy...

You´re damm right, the strap dosn´t help at all, makes it nearly 1/4 inch thicker!
Thanks for the interest shown and the replies, I appreciate it.

I like the thickness of the orfina and agree it is a deep watchcase and all-in, though as you say, with a bund or one that is made to fit well (as I have done), it's very comfortable, even in hot conditions. (Unlike the orthdoxy of some- leather breathes and more importantly, does not scratch were NATOs and rough webbing-style straps can very much so, particularly where local humidity is low, such as in the desert, when skin is sensitive and cracked for many in places- particulalry new arrivals and those acclimatizing.)

    Br,

    AP.

PS I'd like a Junghans, but I hear the spare parts are also not so easy to obtain, when necc. (as it's a matter of when, if one wishes to wear it).

Not in the same league as the above but still another example of a post war German Military.

    Hello Jimmy,

the Junghans J88 was not only issued to the pilots of the Luftwaffe, the watch also issued to the commanding officers of the Navy, especially the commanders of the submarines and the fast patrol boats and to the commanders of the armoured reconnaissance/ long range reconnaissance patrols of the Army as well.

    Best regards
    Hajo

    Hi Jimmy,

this is a Heuer 3H which served its duty on the wirst of a friend/crew-comrade of mine in the German Navy Fleet Air Arm (?), MFG 1, 1978-86. The watch was used by him in the cockpit of F-104G and a Tornado. .
My friend is still alive  and is now Captain on board of a LH A-340.

Nice watch to own, with a "real" history behind it, but what an anticlimax...from flying F-104G´s and Tornado´s and now on the buses!!! :D

Thanks for posting this. As I've said before I particularly like the J88 and I didn't realise that there was a Hanhart with Bund markings. I suppose I'll have to read my Knirim more closely.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

The Hanhart was the first watch issued after the new formation in 1955, from the Wehrmacht to Bundeswehr, untill about 1958, where the Junghans J88 replaced the Hanhart, and I agree with you, the most desireable is the Junghans J88

 a very appropriate piece of furniture- mahogany I presume(?)

The recessed subdials on the Hanhart are very pleasing, imho.

PS I understand they came in different cases.

    The ever eluding Bundeswehr Tengler

Well I got my long lost Tengler, of which only 500 were made and issued, in fact I found two of these rare birds in one month and bought them both off course :)
The only thing missing is the Leather case with the star map etc (I haven´t given up hope though!), which can be seen in Konrad Knirims picture below!

If you´d like to read a bit about them, then open the links with a google translator.

    Here are the watches;

    now the twins ;)

Great stuff, and well done on the Tengler(s).
    I had one, 142.

Here it is (long gone now)

    http://forum.atgvintagewatches.com/g...MG_7928_ol.jpg

(I wish the new forum would post pictures that it used to before)

I always preferred it to the Arctos. Even though they were almost the same, all the differences were in the Tengler's favour, I thought.
It is interesting that the specification crept so much from the letter you refer to above.
    20 Bar ?
    Sapphire Glass
Neither came to pass, in fact it always amused me that the Tengler had a screwdown crown and only 50m WR.
Also the last drawing (left of Konrad's composite page) is not the drawing of the Tengler. It shows a significantly domed crystal, which this watch never had.

    Dave

ps - Thanks for referring to my article comparing the Sinn 156 and Heuer Bund.

Actually no, I do not misss it in the least.
I didn't spend any time looking for it, it fell into my lap. One of the other ATG members owned it, and almost insisted that I buy it off him. So I had very little "emotional capital" wrapped up in it.

I also still have plenty of 5100s to keep me company (Fortis Ti LE, EZM1, Lorenz, Omega 176.0012, Porsche Design etc etc).
And I have realised that military provenance doesn't matter to me at all.
It is the watch that matters to me, and the ones I have left are ones I prefer.

I also have a super-rare Tutima Commando with bezel, ex-issued by the ZUZ troops (see here)

    http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...ghlight=tutima

I got it because I like the watch. It happend that the only way to get one was to get an issued one, but that wasn't my "must-have" criteria.

Although it doesn't have an NSN, and was only issued to customs "troops", I suppose that Tutima also belongs in this thread too.

Yes, I saw that thread when it came up, but it´s not my thing. Zoll or Customs watch´s , were watches that were privately owned (IMHO), anyone could have had one (if you were employes by the said customs unit that is!) Im only into issued military watches, and I don´t consider the customs people as Military.
    If you want to know more about the watches, a friend of mine wrote an article about them, in Flying Time forum;
