Very sad news. Thoroughly nice bloke.
RIP Gary

RIP. Dreadful news....
Very sad. He always seemed like a decent and genuine chap.
Tragedy - he never seemed to quite 'make it' as far as his skills should have allowed him too as Frank B stole the limelight (I liked him too!). Scary fighter and apparently he was a nice bloke too.
Some a$$hole in a white van....quelle surprise. Hope he gets an appropriate sentence (if guilty), but will probably get a ban (if not banned already) and few months inside........
Met him a couple of time and he was a nice chap, RIP big man.
Terrible thing to happen :(
A real athlete, (rugby as well as boxing).
RIP :(
I doubt it, he will most likely get off with a lesser offence. There was a very similar incident a few years back in my home town, despite witness testimony saying the cyclist and van had a road rage going on and the van swerved towards the cyclist. ISTR the van driver ended up with just some points and a fine despite the case starting out as manslaughter.Originally Posted by afcneal

Poor guy. Seemed a nice bloke, decent fighter who seemed to cut all too easy.
Sad news.
One of his fights (featuring Reg Guttridge) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfUd2Xz5kPg
Awful news. I followed his career with interest in the days of Bruno, Eubanks, Mcguigan, Watson, Benn and Marsh. Oh Halcion days of boxing. RIP Gary :(
Shocking news, RIP.

What they all said, very sad indeed. I hope the driver (if proven guilty of an offence) gets a lengthy sentence, but somehow I doubt it.
F.T.F.A.
I met Gary once in the early 90's, seemed like a great guy. My friend Rajesh accidently bumped into him when he was doing some promotional work and nearly KO'd himeself, it was like he ran into a wall. Gary was massive!
I cycle everyday and its always tragic when you hear of another cyclist dieing let alone someone well known.
A sad day :(
Far too young, RIP.
"I looked with pity not untinged with scorn upon these trivial-minded passers-by"
Heartbreaking news.
As a fellow cyclist who has lost a few race competitors to this type of thing it is very, very sad.
Usually, a fine and a driving ban seems to be the result.
However the cyclist's family is left devastated and after a while its forgot about and drivers go back to intimidating cylists.
Thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.
From a fellow cyclist. Rest in Peace.
Very sad, RIP
R.I.P :(
As regulars on here will know I am an official with the BBBoC and have worked with Gary many times, he was an absolute gentleman outside the ring and always had me in stitches when we went out, I am gutted over this and will miss him at the shows

Tragic.
Met Gary a few times, a Wandsworth boy like me, always had a funny story and a smile. A true gentleman and the perfect gentle giant.
I'm a cyclist too, but lets be fair the driver stopped and it seems from the charge that there is no evidence of intent to harm. Most likely a case of looking but not seeing in the dark and under the new law causing death by driving without due care carries a lengthy prison sentence.Originally Posted by Guz
At this stage all we know is that this is a tragedy for Gary's family and friends and my thoughts are with them.
Very sad news.
He was a gent and around at a great time for British boxing.
RIP
The wife and me sat next to Gary in a restaurant back in the days when he was running a jewellers nearby and I would have taken a 10 count if he just looked at me. Charming man though RIP.Originally Posted by Skool
