    The title in the thread is a little bit misleading;
"Kingston review courtesy of Victoria and Simon"

I thought this was the actual review.
Not someone moaning about the way Simon spends his free time, & Vickies generous offer of the loan-out.

    I'm glad I read this, it's a classic.
And one of the best comedy postings on here for a long time.
So all's well which ends well.

Agreed, I had to read it a couple of times to work out what the OPs beef is. I can only assume that the guy has nothing else constructive to do but wait for someone else to write something for him to read

I am however looking forward to the comparison, the Kingston is a fine looking watch which (based upon how long it's production takes) should have had it's timekeeping tested rigorously before delivery. I don't think the review will change too many opinions but will be interesting anyway.

Now hurry up and get it written

I am sure Simon's review will be a good read but in some ways it would be all the more delicious if he delayed its appearance indefinitely. The hysterical response over on WUS to the delay in the pre-announced appearance of a review of a virtually virtual watch, when any contrary references to the delays in the appearance of the actual watch are snuffed out instantly, is ironic the extreme.

I struggle to see how a review would add much of any great consequence to the received wisdom relating to this watch. Simon will probably observe that it is a nice looking watch, nicely executed, with an attractive dial and a nicely tactile bezel action. He may conclude that where the Rolex feels so solid in the quality of its engineering, the Kingston has a more well-oiled, refined feel to it. He may take a view of whether the over-polished crown is an aesthetic high point, or a flaw, paling by comparison to the sharp precision of the Rolex crown. He might observe that the off-the-shelf ETA movement keeps decent time. He may conclude that it represents decent value for money. He may even conclude that its a bit special. I don't know. But nor do I think that it's especially important what conclusions he draws. The big issue here has never been about how nice this particular watch is.

    Good grief!

There seem to be some fairly strong emotions engendered by this particular watch and it is just a watch.

Please forgive my ignorance, but is it because the Rolex, especially vintage Rolex, owners feel that any comparison between their watches and the MK11 is an insult to the original.

Or is it because the MK11 fans are genuinely saying that the MK11 is actually comparable to a Rolex and not just an overly hyped copy?

Or have I missed the point completely and should go back to sleep?

My view is that it's largely due to the absurd delays, poor communications etc rather than the watch itself, which seems decent enough (and I may even find out, one day, as a plank owner ).

I suspect that if Bill had decided to do something outlandish like make the watch and then sell it, it would be regarded as just another well made, attractive homage, in the same way that Eddie's 18 and 50 are, or a Steinhart is - not that they're anything other than excellent watches, but they tend not to provoke such degrees of defensiveness and derision from their defenders and detractors.

I have no horses in the Kingston race, but I have to say it's really rather appalling to throw such low class insults targeting someone's physical appearance. Bad form.

Reading through 'his' posts, I'm inclined to think that gerard88t is some computer programming student's creation - the syntax of each post is so stilted, it almost reads like one of those random Daily Mail article generators. Did he actually just create an account here to piss off Vicky?

A member donates her watch to another member for the purpose of a review to be enjoyed by all, both members and visitors.

A member agrees to undertake the review in his own time.

Postage expenses each way will no doubt be covered by each party without even asking.

The review may actually be brilliant. The watch may even be slated. Either way, I think both Vicky and Simon deserve great praise.

After certain postings on this thread, well the thread as a whole in fact, I would wonder why I had gone to all the trouble.

Personally I would PM the review to the owner of the watch for her to distribute upon request.

For the record, irrespective of the review, well done you two!

I would like to see the review posted myself but then all reviews are subjective anyway aren't they.

I agree with the rest though Steve. Speaks volumes about the spirit of the forum. Any chance I can borrow your PAM 24 and do a full review on that!

Having just read through this thread I have to say that this Gerard dreg of a creature disgusts me. Im no angel, and some of the things I say/write can wind people up at times. I have opinions that clash with people and Im not shy to express them - thats what a forum is for. I kinda respect people who argue/debate well.
But this Gerard character (or lack of). I dont care if this gets me in bother. He deserves a good hiding. A truly charmless excuse of a 'man'. I suspect very sad and lonely and with good reason. I wouldnt ban him though - far too much fun ridiculing him!

Is there a review of the Kingston coming out? I'd like to see that, am I right in thinking you could choose a different dial when ordering this watch? as I don't like the gold marked one.

There's a link to a review not that many posts above yours.
Yes you could order a white dial with silver (maybe white gold?) fonts/detail.
It looks horrid on pictures but I don't have mine yet to confirm it horrendousness.

Some have already seen the review, but it is designed to be secret. There is a "top secret, super encrypted, private members by invitation only" link. You can get the link from someone who has had access to the review. Once they read it they get one invite to forward to a friend, who in turn gets one invite, etc. It may be a slow process but it is well worth it. One of the most comprehensive reviews I have ever seen, but part of the agreement is confidentiality... you can't talk about the review or quote it. I may be in violation by even posting this, I hope not. So, if you have a "friend", maybe they will forward you a link. Sorry I gave my link to someone already, so no PM's begging please.....
