2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

    What do you reckon?

Would you swap the original 2254.50 dial for the "non Americas cup" version. It's exactly the same except it has applied markers and an applied "Omega" icon in place of the painted on ones.

I also have an option to have a PO seconds hand fitted, which IMO better compliments the sword hands?

Of course I would also keep the originals.

Take a look at this thread and pics and you will see the end result... http://www.watchtalkforums.info/forums/ ... /42115.htm

Didn't you do this once before, Neil?

I'd do it, I like the little lift it gives to the look of the watch and applied markers with surrounds like that make for excellent legibility when they catch the light.

I did do it before but I had a Bond bracelet fitted so never saw it on the Speedy bracelet with the new dial.
Also I never had the PO seconds hand fitted.

Anyway, memory fades doesn't it? :?

I really like the applied logo but not the dial surrounds. Thought about doing this to mine but the applied markers put me off.

Wish they did modern Rolex without them as well

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

I thought about this as I like the applied markers and shiney surrounds but for now I have decided against it. I really like how it is as standard and made a point of tracking down the specific model. I have not closed the door though and I would say that the facelift looks "better" but not sufficiently to make me mess with my favourite watch, especially as I only just got it and it was a gift.....I suppose I might feel that it would be defacing that sentiment a little to mess with it.

I would not put it on the bond bracelet though, I just plain don't like it as much!

Didn't notice the seconds hand swap the first time I looked, just to say I thnk that works well, actually.

I like the dial swap, but I'm still hesitant if it's worth the expense. Not a big fan of the second hand.

I'd leave it as it is really.
But then again I do love it the way it looks :)

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

Do it - you can keep all the parts for it to be put back to standard if there are any issues.
It's just a matter of time...

Don't like the cosmetics but the bracelet works.

I wouldn't bother for such subtle differences personally. On a slightly related note, my new (to me) 2254 arrived yesterday and I am loving it so far :)

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

    I'd do it.
Plus i've seen one with most of that done, and with a black PO bezel fitted - it looked spot on. Nicest looking Omega i''d seen for ages.

    +1.

Don't knock it until you've tried it at least twice

Non AC for me. The standard dial's large triangle at 12 is just too dominant. The applied markers are a bit better balanced IMHO. As you're keeping the originals why not?

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

Very interesting post, thanks. Can I change my vote? After a second take I think I like the Americas cup look, although I might need to live with the second hand for a bit. I like the 'Bond' bracelet better than the Speedie these days, I own both. But I don't think it suits the 2254, the image on the rubber looks the nuts however. How much would all this cost Neil? Are talking hundreds?

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

Both look nice IMHO, though I think I'll stick with the original dial for my 2254...

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

What you did works very nicely. It brings the 2254 to 2010. The question is, is that what you want? I like my 2254 because it is a balance of old and new and the dial and hands are the most retro part of it, so I would not change it, if I wanted a watch that looked like it was designed in 2010 I would buy a new watch! Thanks for sharing.

My AD will do the lot fitted for around £100 (not the Bond bracelet though as although I love the Bond I prefer the 2254 on the Speedy)
Bear in mind though, that that is cost price plus VAT only so you may pay a lot more depending on your AD.

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

Well, the watch has been shipped off to the AD for the work to be done!

I am 100% about the non AC dial however I am a little unsure about the PO seconds hand?
Of course I can get it swapped back again but it's the hassle factor.

Whats your opinions guys regarding the PO seconds hand? Yes? or No?

I think you have to be the guinee pig with this one Neil, you will only know after you've owned it for a while. The original is a pretty hard act to follow. I'm looking forward to the pic's already.

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

My vote goes for making the change.....if you're planning on keeping the watch; highly unlikely with your track record :).

The one change that would really makes this watch (IMO) is to swap the bracelet for the Bond. That's what I had on mine and I preferred it to the standard offering. I also found it fitted me better. Only problem is the price....over £300!

Didn`t think I`d like the second-hand swap but have to admit I do.

What strap is that? Is it the omega rubber strap that looks like leather?

I like it - wouldn't fit well on my co-axial and be applied marker version that should have been made - as I am sure it would have sold quite well - but £2100 instead of £1k for a nice 2254.
It's just a matter of time...

Lovely looking strap philipp, but a £300 from Ofrei I cannot see me getting one. i have the Coramide that I use from time to time.
Bloody Neil has started something now, he will have us spending £100's on our perfectly good watches :D

Re: 2254.50 original dial or non AC with applied markers?

Looks OK not bowled over by it myself. I have the standard 2254 and would quite happily stick to that. I think the applied looks a bit too blingy especially with the bond bracelet.

Here's a few quickie pics of the watch as it was, I'll post pics of it with the mods once I get it back from the AD.

Original for me. Got mine on today and its simply quality. I have a 2594 (the chrono) which has applied markers and logo, and whilst they are very nice, theres something about the simplicity of the 2254 which just makes it perfect. In daylight you can see the bulge of the lume, and at night its simply the brightest watch in my box.
