Thread: Quick lads! Think up excuses - Haydock Watch Fair on Sunday!

Quick lads! Think up excuses - Haydock Watch Fair on Sunday!

That's either an excuse for why you need a pass-out for a few hours this Sunday morning, or, a damn good reason why you just can't make it along to Haydock Clock and Watch Fair at Haydock Race Course off the M6 / A580 in Merseyside between 09:00-15:00.

I missed the deadline for posting a "why I can't", so I'll be there trawling through the horological tat knowing full well that there won't be any treasures, but wot the heck, it's only a measly fiver on the door for a few hours of entertainment...

Ever actually got any gems there Mike?
Not much choice in fairs up here where Hadrian feared to tread.
    Good luck, Colin.

Mike, you need to get out more- how many days of your life have you wasted at Haydock?

You know it's garbage and the only deals are done by the "mafia" in the cafe.

Take the Roll's for a spin to the coast instead.

Why are these always on a Sunday? By the time all my morning services are finished, everyone will have gone home :(

Is it really a waste of time, it's only 25 mins away from me, although all the bargains probably been snapped up now.

Having never been to a watch fair can someone give me an idea of the sort of stuff that is for sale, how many sellers, prices etc

Tea / Coffee £1.50 Bacon Barms £3.00 Eccles Cakes £1.80

    So basically over-priced fodder.

However, there were also watches. For the pocket. For the wrist. For the home. I think there was a large jumble box of working watches priced at 2 quid a pop, and running up to four grand for a Patek Philippe Calatrava converted from bracelet to strap watch. Up stairs in the cafe, the usual suspects were huddled around a communal mug of tea a-wheelin' and a-dealin', and there were some big sales going through.

I enjoyed the day, and even came away with enough to buy my Sunday curry lunch. Even paid, in cash!!
