    Would you trade..............

a Milgauss black dial from 2009, fully serviced in august 2010 for an Ingenieur 3227-01 from 2008?
I'm toying with the idea, but can't help feeling my Milgauss is worth more and is more comfy on the wrist.
And the 80110 in-house or not in-house discussion is worrying as well.

    All opinions welcome :)

If you haven't already, you should try an Inge to see whether you will get on with it - it's almost certain that it will not be as comfortable as the Milgauss.
If it just came down to looks, though, I would go Inge :)
Value wise, you are probably right :)

What makes you think the movement isn't in-house?

I would prefer the Milgauss myself.

Out of interest, are your dates correct, did it need a service after a year?

    Re: Would you trade..............

I was thinking about having to pay for a service already on a modern Milg - gulp!
It's just a matter of time...

Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

    Re: Would you trade..............

At the end of the day its entirely your choice but I'd just say this, if your not sure and think you'll regret it, don't!

If you can raise the funds from savings or selling something else then that's the way to go, or wait till you can afford it outright.

    Good Luck whatever you decide.

3227-01 would be around 2.5k to 2.7k for me, your milgauss would be at 3k to 3.2k, so there's a 500 quid difference, apart from that though, i'd take the 3227 over the rolex as i love the dial, integrated bracelet and everything about the ingy, the 80110 movement isn't truly in-house, but it's a very reliable movement that shouldn't give you any trouble.

I thought you loved that Milgauss. :?:

Anyway, I wouldn't go for the Inge. I would however go for a vintage Milgauss. 8)

    Re: Would you trade..............

    Cheers guys :)
Thanks for the value opinion as well, 500,- seems to be right.
I did try the IWC at my local once, and the Milgauss is far more comfortable on the wrist.
Asking you means I'm not sure about it indeed.
If the Milgauss and bracelet did have a totally brushed finish, it would be my grail............

And yes, the dates are correct, but the money for the service was paid by the seller, who forgot to tell me (or didn't know, as he said) that the watch had taken quite a hit, so all the oil was knocked out of the shock-absorber, into the movement.
It's now as new, with still some warranty left.

Mate, that is a very bold statement and quite honestly the very very simple answer to your question. Get it brushed. It will be the cheapest grail you ever bought...

If it wasn't comfy when you tried it i'd avoid it, i love the 3227, but it's just a little too big, and due to that uncomfortable, so i've never bought one, i do love the 3228 though, a little smaller and fits the wrist better, just wish i had the money.

    Thanks again.

Now I have to find the courage to let someone give my Milgauss a brushed finish :) .
Off to a large scotch, to find some in a drink :D

If you have already decided that the IWC is a less comfortable watch then it is a no go. For me, a watch has to be completely right in my mind to make the leap to ownership. You will kick yourself by making the change on this occasion. :?

I wouldn't do the trade. Also, I wouldn't do the brushing. As an idea I see the merits, but there was one done on TImzone, and for me it just didn't work: the bracelet was fine, but the brushed sides of case looked wrong, and the bezel is large and almost too shiny / blingy alongside the rest of the watch being brushed. I'll see if I can find the link.

I actually think that looks pretty damn fine. Would be interested to see it with brushed bezel too. Think that would look even more awesome. That's made me consider the Milgauss in a whole new light. 8)

Actually, having looked at it again, it's safe to say that with a brushed bezel (have to be done really well) and the seconds hand stripped back to metal, the black dial non-gv would be pretty much top of my want list. Too cool. 8)

    Re: Would you trade..............

Apologies for being late to the party...

Richard don't trade the Milgauss and do seriously consider the brush-finish.

I've never seen one but it looks fantastic in that link :thumbleft:

Gingerboy (Paul) has brush-finished my GMTIIC and Breitling B1 and it has transformed the watches. His attention to detail is exceptional and is a throughly nice bloke to-boot.

Don't forget that if you ever wanted to re-polish it again, then it would still be possible.

I've owned both the Milgauss and the Ingenieur. The Rolex was just too shiny and it never occurred to me to have it refinished, whereas the Inge was too tall and much too easy to mark - even with the dull finished steel.

Just my opinion, but that black dialled Milgauss looks perfect for the job.

That's not my favourite Inge but it's a fair bit classier than the Milgauss (for me). So in summary - yes.

Yes I see what you mean having had a look at the link you posted .. the side of the case looks really very Pete Tong to me. I think it would look great if the sides had been left polished, though. Don't quite agree with your observation about the bezel.

But I still prefer the Inge, personally, by quite some distance.

Thanks very much for the link and all the input!
The totally brushed finish looks wrong IMHO, it just doesnīt work, the brushed finish on the sides of the case just does not belong on a rolex.
But the Explorer finish, brushed lugs and totally brushed bracelet would be the ideal solution I reckon.
But it should be the real Rolex finish on the lugs, just like my old Sub No-Date.

    Cheers,

    Daddel.

I agree 100% on that, with brushed lugs and bracelet it would have looked like an Oyster Perpetual 116000 on steroids, and close to perfect. Thinking about it its odd Rolex didn't do it like this as this would have given more of a family theme then what they did which is more like the recent Datejusts.

Brushed bracelet would be about as far as I would go - I like the IWC but not enough against the Milgs

    1.
    The MG is better looking.

    2. It hasn't got an integrated bracelet like the Ing or that weird holey bezel that looks like something has fallen off.

    Definitly Yes and No
Yes: because IWC itīs a very good watch, inhouse movement and all that
Not because a Rolex keeps itīs value a lot better than IWC

Def yes: de ingenieur is my favourite.

Than again, i would buy a white milgauss next to my ingenieur. But i would keep the ing.

It looks like perfection to me. A real cool men's watch. :D I got a few good remarks on it by people saying they like it.
