had a little search on the net and most folks seem to reckon about 45 quid a year which is much less than i thought it would be. apparently theres only about 7 quid difference annually between a and b rated.

Which? had it a couple of years ago that running a dishwasher needed no more energy that running a basin full of hot water for the same job by hand.
cheaper to run than a wife, so i vote to get a dishwisher instead
But make sure you use salts or you have to replace things like heating elements.
Just fixed my parents after finding out it had packed up. After a quick chat with my mum she hasn't been refilling the salt in it for about a year (so that means 2). Really hard water at their house so it's resulted in a burnt out element. To be fare it only cost £35 to replace but it took a while to take apart and replace, now I wonder how much it costs for salt every year?
If you want to monitor the power you can get those power meters pretty cheaply so you can see exactly how much juice it's using. I'm going to hook our kettle up to one as my girlfriend always boils a full kettle just for a single cup! her excuse, she doesn't like the limescale that builds up in here tea. I've tried pointing out that the more water that "cools" in the kettle the more limescale will build up but she still does it
The expensive part of owning a dishwasher is having at least 3 sets of everything as theres always 2 sets waiting to be washed!

We've got a slim-line (small) one. Guess it's slightly cheaper per wash but goes on pretty regularly.
Haven't ever thought about the cost to run it. It just costs what it costs...
No hard water here though so don't need to worry about salt.
Which said used less water than a bowl of washing up, suggesting it was cheaper than hand washing but the tablets always seem expensive !
Im forever repairing broken glasses that have been through a dishwasher, £15 minimum per glass. Soon adds up!
If Which are correct, im surprised at how efficient they are.
Huh? Lead crystal? If so, they shouldn't be put in a dishwasher.Originally Posted by minkle

The most expensive bit is all the consumables,
It's not expensive as such but mine runs pretty much everyday.
half decent tablets cost about 20p each (powder is about 1/2 that).
Maybe add some salt.
Probably £75 per year.
Buy 'em in bulk at Costco. They're cheap there anyway, but they always have a deal on.Originally Posted by MB2

Wait till the tablets are on special offer and stock up (you'll always need them) never pay more than 10p a tablet.
Exactly but still the old favourite goes in there....Originally Posted by hogthrob
