Yes, lovely watch that. Very similar style and case (same size, I think) as my Tudor Oysterdate.

I thought that.
The air king is definatly still 34mm, although it wears a bit bigger with the new style case.
Shouldn't have been, it was brand new. But according to the Rolex website you are right and there is no such thing as a white dial/green sapphire.
I've just asked Mrs B and she says it was a really horrible 'peachy' colour, so it must have been a white dial with some kind of coloured glass.
Maybe reflection from the orange hand on the white dial, or a funny effect with the display lights in the shop? In real life it should look white as white. :) I like the Air King better though, so I think you made the right choice anyway.Originally Posted by barreti
Agreed! :-)

Great thread btw!
Here's my 2003 34mm Oyster Perpetual Date 15200. I picked this up a few weeks ago and really, really like it. My journey with Rolex has been one of reduction. I got my first Rolex, an Explorer II (white) in April last year. A hankering for a Explorer I prompted a trade and the II got replaced with I. The Explorer did nothing for me so that went within a few days to be replaced a month or two later with this current beauty. So, 40mm-->36mm-->34mm. For me 34mm is perfect and along with the Air King range my Oyster Perpetual Date is pretty much the quintessential Rolex. It's off for a service next week to William Rice and I'm really going to miss it.
The dial looks off-white in the pics but it's actually Silver:

opps!
1964 Air King. The arabic dial is unusual, I think. All original. Inherited from my grandfather - he received it on retiring from the UK Forestry Commission after service from 1925 - 1965.
Okay, okay, so I posted pic of this in my introductory thread. 'Tis lovely though..... 8)
That is cracking mate. Looks to be in stunning condition too.
It's such a pity they have made the hands smaller on the new ones. It makes no sence to me at all, and your is clear as crystal. It's really frustrating.
What year is that one Bertie?
I've just bought a 1990 date. This thread has now cost me money!!!
Well the B&P are tucked away somewhere but I seem to recall it being an '06. It's not got the engraved rehaut ring ( but does have the micro etched coronet at 6 ), which is one of the details I like most about it. Thanks RE the condition. It was brand new when those shots were taken but has since picked up some beauty marks including an annoying scape on the crystal caused by a rogue MGB..... :banghead:Originally Posted by jrpippen

I am after the 114210 model with this beautiful blue dial for my wife. It seems to be quite hard to get a good second hand version or even one new.

 I have to say it's a teenyweeny bit gaudy for my taste, but shakkunassongoo as they say

Can`t rememberthe model reference for this one; it's like a Datejust without the date and with a brushed finish throughout. V. similar to the old-style Air-King but 36mm. I owned a steel Datejust 116200 with the same size case and I agree, they do wear big for a 36mm watch.Originally Posted by Neil.Ldn
Just my opinion...but this would look MUCH nicer on its original bracelet.

Re-posting this since image on my previous post has vanished.
1964 Air-King, all original and well worn. Inherited from my Grandfather.
Hi Paul, the 36mm model without date is called the 'Oyster Perpetual' used to differ from the Airking in size and movement (Chronometer rated). Today it only differs in size.Originally Posted by walkerwek1958

some lovely watches
I'm green with envy! I wish my parents had let me spend the money my grandmother left me in 91 on one. I was 11 and despiratley Wanted to buy the Rolex that would have been from her to me. Even though ibknew they would not have let me wear it for years.Originally Posted by Mrcrowley

A perennial classic, I think...
My 2005 Air King purchased on Saturday from Bournemouth.

Put mine back on tonight. What a great watch. I really must wear her more,
Class and understatement.
In case I didn't answer. £250 from my local AD who has on onsite Rolex qualified watchman. WoS royal exchange, London. I must say hebdid a fine job.Originally Posted by Gregorius

Mine was 'borrowed' by Mrs MoJo, about a week after its spur of the moment purchase at Badminton Horse trials a few years ago. Its been on her wrist almost every day since  It does look quite small on my wrist though so its not a problem.
Again, sorry about quality of photo - another iPhone special !!
Here are a couple more of mine. Ive been wearing her on and off all week and although it felt strange walking round today with the wife wearing the gmt I just can't find fault with the understated genius of the 34mm non date King of the Air!
This is the only picture i have of her in her original "Salmon" state!
Please ignore my son and Quincy Jones!
I've got one inbound-let's hope I'm as happy as you guys!!!
due tomorrow, RMSD.
Arrived, will post pics in my "watch collecting" thread....Originally Posted by RJM25R

I concur and prefer it on the black leather strap to the later bracelet photo. However lively this is, I would still go for the 3 6 9 on page 1 of the thread. Close but only just.Originally Posted by jrpippen

Why are the Air King's cheaper than the Datejust's?
Used to own this one....and wish I still did!
From 1990 I think, with the deepest gloss dial I've ever seen.
pure, understated class.
Datejusts have a date, Airkings don't.Originally Posted by AndySquirrel
