Well you could pick the most expensive available and sell it, but if you're loking to keep one I'd be looking at a portuguese or big pilot perpetual calender.
I can think of far worse dilemas, happy choosing.
Well lads, for reasons that are complicated to explain I am free to choose 1 watch from IWC's current lineup (some would take a while to be sent from switzerland others are available now)
The one suggested to me as "available immediately" is this one in rose gold. Not that big at 41mm.
It doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy at first glance, I've always been more for slightly sportier watches but I do need a bit more of a dress watch if I'm honest. And it does look good.
My current daily watch is a titanium Speedmaster so I'm looking to get something with at least a leather strap  Pretty much rules out the Aquatimers which I did like before.
Also looked at IW371713, always liked Flieger chronos...IW500107 I also like but it's blue...ish. 7 day power reserve seems very handy though.
But with a whole catalogue in front of me it gets a little confusing. I'm not a real WIS tbh...
As a more "respectable" dress watch which would be your fav IWC's?

I'd choose a mark XVI in steel, if I had to choose a current model. Not as nice as the XII or the XV mind, but a nice watch all the same.
The current Inges are nice, but a bit too big for my liking.
Definitely going to keep, wouldn't feel right selling it. The thing with the big pilots is that I find the crown a little oversized..Originally Posted by PCP
Portuguese with blue hands, no question and no doubts.
Enjoy and good luck.
Today I would probably choose the ref 323101 vintage aquatimer, but as you said you didn't want an AT, I would choose ref 371417 Portuguese with blue hands.
Not a bad situation to be in right enough!
Chris
I love the aquatimer but based on what you've said I'd be inclined to agree. Your a very lucky man, nice decision you've got to make.Originally Posted by a900ss

A portugieser perpetual calendar in rose gold, thats the one!
lucky bugger!
I was going to suggest the ingenieur from the vintage collection, but this one is really something else.

A bit big for me but it's gorgeous :)
You really cant go far wrong with IWC. It would seem youre in a very fortunate position!
I know you said its a long story, but surely Im not the only person who'd love to know how you can take your pick of any IWC watch in the catalogue. I mean, at £150 000, the portugese grande complication in 18ct rose gold on strap would be my choice, but Id be torn between that and the £200 000 platinum version on bracelet - mind you, you could slum it a bit and settle for the da vinci perpetual calendar digital date-month at just £47 000 in platinum, or a paltry £29 500 in rose gold.
I think the story would be almost as interesting as your final choice. Please share.
This:
I'd go for either the Portuguese auto as shown in the picture above this post, or wait for the new Portofino hand wound 8 day. If money is no object, the Portuguese tourbillion mystere retrograde.
A fantastic dilemma to have. Good luck.
+1 for the Vintage collection Ingys - definitely worth a look at any of them.Originally Posted by learningtofly
Vintage Aquatimer, would be my choice.
It's not the most expensive IWC make, but the 371701 Pilot's Chrono is a lot of watch for the money.
Given what you have said re you preferences then the Ingy makes a lot of sense. Here is mine in steel viewtopic.php?f=1&t=165072Originally Posted by edoze
More confused now than before I started this thread
I prefer the blue hand portuegese versions but may go for the "available" one in rose gold..I'd have to wait a while for most others.
The 7-day automatic is nice but the one with chrono I like a little more.

Why would you consider anything else. Is the OP poster thread a hypothetical situation?
Just two words - Big Pilot!
While it was not mentioned in any way I do not believe any of the rediculously expensive items are on the table..and it feels like poor taste to even ask them. I can choose from the catalog they gave me and actually there's none of the uber-money watches in it anyway.Originally Posted by jonny
Neither am I going to sell it so I don't mind opting for a cheaper watch it's a gift after all. It's not a hypothetical scenario.
I'm a little stuck between the rose gold chrono portuegese and the stainless one with blue dial/hands. Looks I prefer #2 but I could get #1 much sooner.
In the end I'll make sure to come back and post pics!
Fair enough I have a Portuguese 3714-17 chrono with blue numerals and its one of the classiest watches out there.
I'd choose the vintage collection
Sorry sent too early before I clarified which model. The White gold ingenieur vintage hands down. Understated elegance!
I hate these dull daily choices you are forced to make... you should choose Electrity Supplier, Phone operator, insurance companies, watch you get for free, and so on :D
what a fantastic opportunity: To me there are two routes:
1. I would go for something I would never be able to afford (and then it would probably be the portuguese minute repeater, still very elegant, I think the perputual calenders get a bit busy)
2. choose the one you really want - regardless of price (then I would probably choose what seems to be the favourite here - the portuguese chrono with blue hands, I like the 8 day version better, but it is too big for my wrist)
:D :D (not my pic,Im crap at photos )
I have one and its the perfect most classy watch one can buy .Its suitable for everyday wear and is a perfect size.it was my grail. :)
Don't settle for the one that is available now. If you like the other better, in the long run you will be happier with it.Originally Posted by JCviggen
Did get this one in the end...quite happy with it, it grows on me.
Its not really big but it does wear rather large on my slim wrist, probably because the bezel is so thin..compared to equal size speedmaster:
Excuse the crappy pics, just a quick indoors shot not enough light and the DOF is too shallow with the lens wide open.
PS, the speedy did not actually touch/scratch the portuguese, had taken precaution there.
Its a lovely watch. And, thankfully, you didnt choose one of IWCs larger examples - pocket watch movements are for pocket watches unless you have goliath wrists!. I think it looks great and youre very fortunate. A really classy piece.
You made an excellent choice, it is lovely and definitely not too big :thumbright:
Fantastic choice. That's a gorgeous watch!

Lovely watch, and doesn't look too big on your wrist.
Good choice!
Very,very nice !
+1 vote to Portuguese with blue hands!
Lovely watch, wear it well.
Missed the boat on this thread a little, but my favourite IWC is the 5454
Beautiful choice. Enjoy
Thanks guys, one thing I've come to realise now is that I'd like to buy a watch winder...its a little difficult to keep them both going, I dont like setting the time every couple of days! Never had more than 1 (automatic) watch before.
The Portuguese seems to be doing around +2s a day which is pretty good I guess, my co-axial speedy is nearly 0 so I've been spoilt slightly.
Cool! Great choice, and thanks for replying to your original thread. I like it when the OP follows up. :thumbright:Originally Posted by JCviggen

Nice choice.
Big pilot!
I went for these 2 myself :D
It;s the diver for me.
It's just a matter of time...
I'd have gone for a portuguese yacht club with a White face.
