I think some of you need to redefine the word "beater". For me thats a watch you don't take of when you wrestle with your buddies.
And who wears a £1000 watch when they do that?
My Seiko SNZG15J1. Only had it a week or so.

No one in their right mind, regardless of how thick their wallet is, mistreats somethina watch worth £1000.
Just because you can afford 10 lambos, that don't mean you should mistreat one of them.
It's all relative. "Should" and "can afford to" are very different.Originally Posted by yonsson

I don't think I 'beat'.
I can certainly cope without wearing a watch if I decided to do something 'scary', but I've learnt watches can get damaged however you try to covet them, so now I wear whatever I choose and take the consequences accordingly.
here is mine

Doubt this is the case. In fact an old boss had a few Ferrari's and one in particular was lets say a little worse for wear. He used to refer to it as his "pool car". Rarely washed, never saw an interior clean and was a sorry sight :( His F450 on the other hand..................Originally Posted by yonsson

not mine but this little chap was run over by an aircraft carrier. twice.
so bearing that in mind, i wear this for everything and anything i do:

I bought one of these a few months ago 'cos I thought it would make an ideal beater, plus the dual time thing would be useful when Skyping relatives in the UK.
Unfortunately no matter how hard I try, I just can't bond with digital watches, and this one now lives at the bottom of a drawer....
Jim
I did not wear digi watches for years. Now, I wear my cheap Casio G a lot. A no hassle practical though ugly watch. Quite liberating not having to bother about adjusting the watch at all. That thing is not going to be tampered with until it breaks.
I find myself missing my MEGA1000. If Junghans had made that not only RC but solar, I might buy one again.
I live a hands on life on an eco mountain farm. We try to live with the smallest foot print possible. Added to the resulting amual labour working the land, taking care of the animals and fixing things, my horses are my passion; more active things.
The fact that I live an active life does not change that I like to look at and wear a good quality watch with technical aesthetics that I appreciate and so my daily wearers are; a 9F61 engined Grand Seiko and the EPD:
and I accept that they bear proof of their usefull life.
These two are my no worries on time, no hassle practical watches Jesper and though ugly/beauty is in the eye of the beholder, these two have eye pleasing SLoP
Ah thanks, I thought that was the logo but I can't spot the model. Doesn't seem to be on their website now.Originally Posted by WatchScout

I have certainly changed my mind about quartz.
I have seen practical but ugly quartz watches that had both RC and Solar features and I have seen good looking quarz with the RC feature only - what would be nice, would be a good looking quarz (like the MEGA or your Seiko, Petrus) with the added benefits of both RC and solar features.
Many thanks. :-)Originally Posted by WatchScout

This was my work watch, it did get 'beaten up' and burnt..
I got fed up with the state of it so I had 30minutes with wet & dry abrasive paper and Solvol autosol to get it this condition..(mineral glass by the way)..
John :)
Don´t forget the digital autoquartzes. Those are kept on ´perpetual´ boil by ÁCTION :bounce:Originally Posted by WatchScout
I do not use my RX as a beater because the sapphire is a bit exposed but I would have nó reservations about wearing the Hamilton Pulsomatic as a beater. That one I would not hesitate to take along when canyonning even.
I consider it to be a bit too large for my size of wrist but it would be very much ok on a rubber over the neoprene suit.
The electronics are up to far fár more rigeurs and the autothing only gets a charge out of it
Either one of the G's for gardening, DIY or sport
