Thread: Wedding Watch

    Wedding Watch

I am getting hitched in just over a month. Got me thinking I want to get the GMT serviced. For a number reasons. I want it too look good when I wear it, also want to make sure it is pressure tested before wearing in the sea. It's one of my favourite watches and I am pretty sure I will never sell it , which is why i want to wear this out of my collection.

Do you you still own the watch you wore on your wedding?

For my wedding which is coming up in April I'll be wearing my Pam312. In fact that will be the first day I wear it despite having owned it since January this year! I hope to remember the wedding day every time I look at it. It's extremely hard knowing it is there but not being able to wear it at the moment though.

    Re: Wedding Watch

We were married in the caribbean in 2005, I was into watches at the time but didn't own a decent watch, I took a replica Tag Monaco I'd bought in Thailand to be my wedding watch
We had been at our destination a couple of days when I decided to buy a watch to remember, I did the deal & purchased an Omega Seamaster midsize, kind of wish i'd gone full size but hey...
still have it & will never sell it, many have come & gone but this one is here to stay

Yes. Seamaster 120. But it is not special to me because I got married in it, it's just an old friend.

This was my wedding gift from the wife and I wore it for the first time on our wedding day. It is one of only 3 watches in my collection that I will never sell!

On the morning of my wedding day my father gave me his grandfathers watch. It isnt anything special, my Grandfather was not a man of great means but i wore it with pride, and still do so at any wedding, baptism, etc that i attend.

Got married last year and wore my Omega Railmaster. The watch was a present from friends and family for my 30th and it seemed right to include it in the day. It'll never leave my collection.

I wish it were my choice. I got her to agree to spend half as much on a watch for me as I did for her on her engagement package so I got the watch. But then she decided that I wasn't allowed it until the wedding day! I have to go and admire it every so often.

Bought this for the upcoming big day, figured if she doesn't have a sense of humour it won't last anyway.

    Re: Wedding Watch

    Nice!

My missus asked if she could buy me a watch as a wedding present. Fearful of my flipping habit, and as she wasn't likely to get me a Dornblueth, I had to think quite hard to make sure I could get something I would always want to have.

The answer? A pocket watch. Leaves me free to flip my collection without (irrational) fear (but you know what I mean), and retain something of serious memory that comes out only every now & again, and always draws comment.

Pic might make it to the Friday thread this week :)

    Re: Wedding Watch

I can't remember which watch I wore on my first wedding (a yellow faced Citizen Promaster perhaps?), but on my second it was an Omega Seamster 2254.50 which I also sold shortly afterwards As yet this wasn't a bad sign...

And I really envy all of you who are married to someone who at least tolerate your WISdom!

    Best,

I knew my missues was a keeper when she joined up here and contacted a member regarding a Rolex that I kept looking at in the classifieds. She joined up to try and get it for my birthday , bless her! ( it was sold already though :( )

I do, and I'm wearing it now. I bought it when we'd been going out a few months, saw it on SC and spent the next 30-odd minutes arranging the deal via my smartphone [which in 2007 was a pretty slow process] with her sitting patiently in Starbucks - clearly a good omen.

Good idea to have a watch pressure tested before a wedding

My watch from 25 yrs ago is gone, but the wife is still around, and slowly, slowly getting this WIS thing.

    Hope all goes well!

    Congratulations mate!

I wore a Tissot PR50, not the most impressive watch, but on the day I was given a IWC Cal 401 by my Father, that was given to him by his Grandfather on his wedding day :)

I still have both watches 8)

Well, not yet. Engagement has been talked about at some length and it's been mentioned that she'd like to buy me a Speedmaster Moon Watch once the question is popped so I'd probably better pull my finger out a bit because she's also not only tolerant of my watch habits but has also come with me on a few watch related excursions!

    Re: Wedding Watch

Funnily enough I was just asking the wife recently if she remembered what watch I wore to our wedding, as I'm damned if I can remember despite the fact it was only seven years back. It was just before I started getting interested in watches, so it wasn't really something I thought about. I had just bought a Seiko SKX009j from eBay though (the watch that would lead my eventual habit), as I bought it for diving trips on our honeymoon, but I'm 99.99% certain I wouldn't have worn that at the wedding! I think the only other watches I owned then were an Accurist I got for my 21st and a cheapy Rotary which was my main watch back in the day, so probably the latter.

I did buy her a watch as a wedding gift though. It was a Gucci. I'd know better than to buy a fashion watch now, but with my very limited knowledge at the time I assumed that Gucci must be good! She loved it anyway and still does, but doesn't much care for me sneering at it these days and telling her that it's not a proper watch and that I should have bought her something decent instead!

    Re: Wedding Watch

I did see some pics of a bride recently where she was wearing a watch, which did look a bit odd (gold Tag Heuer, couldn't tell the model, but I assume it was special/ meaningful to her).

But they guy- why not? Tradition at weddings is a nonsense, it's your day, do what you want :)
