    A true diving legend...

... the Longines Legend Diver, No Date.

I had a date version a while back and loved the watch but really wanted the true-to-original-launch no date version.

A well bumped WTB and a few weeks later I met up with Casper while in London on business and a couple of drinks and some watch talk later I am happily on to my next meeting with a new to me LLD on my wrist.

A few days at home and a gentle polish and clean up and the watch is now like new and all mine :)

Unlike many I really like the sailcloth "Trieste" strap that it comes on, however, on occasion it's nice to beef it up with something a little more robust. When I had the date version I sought out the perfect mesh bracelet and found it in the Staib mesh. Staib actually manufacture mesh and bracelets for many well known brands and the quality is first class.

I am no camera buff, surviving with an old Sony Cybershot, and it's a light reflecting wonder of a watch and bracelet combo, but a few pics.

    Cheers

    Thanks for looking

In the words of (the almost immortal) Montgomery C Burns: 'I know what I don't like, and that's not it.'

For me, the mesh strap finishes the watch - good choice, great combination. If you ever feel that it needs a new home...

I really like the watch but not convinced about the mesh.

Not quite sure why this watch was discontinued. :?

Gray, that is gorgeous!, and the combination is perfect.

One has come on to Ebay today, and already at big money, condition is poor though.

Sincerely, enjoy it, it's a real peach!

    Re: A true diving legend...

    Thanks all.

I am made up to have tracked one down, the no date versions don't come along very often at the moment so very pleased the WTB got noticed. The mesh is as comfy as a NATO - which also suits the watch well 8)

Have to admit, Staib make a good mesh bracelet. Suits the watch IMO.

I also prefer the no date, it is a lovely elegant watch. I love bracelets and Staib are probably the best mesh out there but I'm not sure on this combination, possibly the long lugs , will stare at it some more, as it's more than likely my eyes.

Love the LLD, I'd happily have parted with the cash for one before now if the super long lugs didn't make it too big for me. :(

 You may be right Jesper, but I feel I may have moved through my bronze phase - at least for now

Maurice, the long lugs are one of the things that attracted me to the design. In the flesh the mesh looks better than the pics - real life is always better - and it actually seem to shorten the lugs visually

WMW, the mesh hunkers the watch down to the wrist so the fit for you may be better. I must get around to trying the NATOs on again and seeing how that affects the fit. IIRC a NATO really emphasises the lug design.

    Re: A true diving legend...

I donīt like the combination with mesh but LLD no date is one of the best looking watch you can buy.

Lovely watch - don't JLC do something similar?

    A true diving legend...

My favourite Longines, congrats Gray! It certainly doesn't look bad on the mesh - and I like variety in my straps too - but I think it looks best on a sailcloth strap ;)

Love the watch, but don't think that it looks so great on a mesh.... i wear mine on a nato strap.

    Re: A true diving legend...

Thanks again, I will get around to some NATO shots at some point. Any other owners, previous owners please feel free to chuck your shots into this thread!

TaoToo - IIRC JLC released their compressor diver a year after Longines :)

JLC also reissued a 40 year anniversary version in 2008 as the Polaris Diver Alarm watch and that costs many, many times the price of the Longines. It's actually available in 768 units only - '68 being the year the particular version reproduced was issued. I think they did an even smaller run of a version from '65 in platinum - of just 65 versions - goodness only knows the price of that one!

    Re: A true diving legend...

Very nice indeed, - when I first saw it I was stuck how similar it is to the JLC Polaris (orginal) - which is an truely epic watch.

As for the mesh - keep it, I have just popped my 1950's Blancpain FF on an vintage JB Champion mesh and love it.

I think this looks like it belongs on the mesh. A good looking combination.

Oh, this could be a sign. I was looking at Longines at the weekend. This is another straw on that camel's back...

I love these at the moment, but can't decide:

    Date or No-Date?

Hope to pull the trigger soon.

Thought I'd seen something similar. Love the 'radial' look of the face, for want of a better word.
