    My mesh experiment

Well I thought fine mesh would suit the retro look of the Tissot Visodate......................So i gave it a try!!! I actually think it looks really good. What do you guys think?

Round case (well, apart from the lugs!) meets straight bracelet ends. Meshes only work for me if they end in the case, as in 1970s Seamasters like the 1000m and Big Blue. The gap between mesh and watch is too glaring. Put it straight back on a strap!

    My mesh experiment

    Looks good.

I was never a fan of "mesh gap" on round cases but have got over it.

In reality, it's not much different to "leather gap" on round cases :?

Not for me. A nice leather strap would be my personal preference for that Tissot.

The gap is not as great an issue as you may think- because of the shape of the Visodate case( wide at the bottom and tapering towards the top), the straight end and case create the look of almost meeting when you look onto it from above. The close up photo also makes it look bigger than it is. Believe me I hate big gaps too but this is not an issue for me in this case.

By the way, what happened to the cheap omega-esque mesh that Eddie was planning?

I would uszally associate mesh with diving watches, but esthetically not shocking. I would prefer leather

    Looks excellent - super 60's - 70's look.

I posted separately as I am looking at a similar conversion on an IWC Portofino but needed advice on a particular brand of mesh - German made Vollmer ...?

    Great look though.

    Re: My mesh experiment

I am a big fan of mesh. I do notice the "mesh gap" and can see, how it could annoy some, but it does not bother me to any great extent.

The Tissot is one good looking watch. Mesh looks fine too as does the combination.

    Works for me.

I don't think the gap is any more offensive than the ones you get with leather straps.

The Visodate for me has to be on leather. It's a dress watch after all... although I understand that a lot of people like an alturnative look :)

+1.....horses for courses. Mesh straps only work well on chronos and divers IMO.

Its an Eichmuller mesh from Watchbandcenter.com. I was advised to to go for something more expensive but wanted to be sure of the look before I invested in something more pricey .They don't appear to have any more of this one left- I just looked for you.

True- I have not exactly thrown it away. I don't like wearing leather when it is really hot and still would like to wear the watch this summer here in Australia- hence my experiment.

    Re: My mesh experiment

Visodate is lovely as is the mesh but together not for me but only because of the straight ends to case gap, if it was fitted it would be wonderful but I do prefer classic looking watches on a strap.

thanks for the feedback- Seems that the main criticism is the gap and the end bars on the mesh. To be honest, this is not something I'm thinking about when looking at this combination on the wrist without the aid of a camera close up.

    Re: My mesh experiment

I think it works just fine. You rarely see complaints about the endpiece gaps on either the Breitling Superocean Heritage on mesh or the Max Bill Chronoscope on mesh (gratuitous pic below) - presumably because they are retro in style, as is your Tissot. Gray's mesh experiment on the Longines Legend Diver is another case in point. So I think the retro-style of the watch trumps the mesh/watch gap issue with your Visodate - you can always shove it back on the leather when more conventional dress watch sobriety is required.
