If you were going on a real military campaign let?s say for 3 years and you can only take two watches, which ones would they be?
1. Quartz: Something tough from Casio
2. Mechanical: Eberhard Scafomaster 500
JD
Every watch a story.

Either this one
But might take a change of strap!
It's solid, non reflective, WR to 300m, chrono function.
Or this
Also with a change of strap
I can't think of anything I would need to time long enough to need a quartz level of accuracy and if I am going to be gone 3 yrs I want some luxury

Wow, that Scafomaster 500 is a unique looking watch.
Why would you take that one JD?

my black dial SMP on a grey NATO, and my black dial Seamaster GMT on a grey NATO. Simple. Accurate. Useful. Four timezones. Very legible. They match. What more could I want? :D
Really would only need one and that is my Bond SeMP. But since I can have two I would take my DN also.
For Land Warfare, I'd simply take two to four CBP Navigator watches, preferrably SandY P650 or updated Traser P6500 with strengthened steel spring bars and U.S. Stocker Yale MilStraps. Weight is an important consideration and so is readability, these Type-6 CBP fit the bill. Fancy features are not necessary in combat or combat support. The watch must be able to tell time efficiently and reliably, that is all. I would keep the unused watch(s) with crown out to save the battery- store the watch in a baggy with desicant. Or else I will have to take some spare batteries with and a couple of small screwdrivers, very hard to do. Fresh battery should last 3 years and more, however, so a battery change is necessary only prior to deployment. Many Heavy watches and mechanical types are inneficient for high mobility wear.
If Price were no object, then why not a Rolex Sub or Sea Dweller or both...
