i prefeer the AP i don't no why :albino:
Which watch do you prefer and why? (assuming price and resale value are not issues)
i prefeer the AP i don't no why :albino:
AP, it is an iconic watch.
Though I would have the white dial. I could not live with a contrasting date wheel.
I will go for IWC 3227
AP, because I like it more.
That is fabulous. Do PM me when it is back up for sale ... ;)Originally Posted by Argee1977

It's gone, so has most of them :(

I have and love both,
The Inge is significantly taller and therefore I think the AP wears slightly better and is more versatile but it is much more expensive. I would probably sell the IWC if I had to let one go but it would be a close call and I might change my mind!

May I know which watch is more prone to scratching?Originally Posted by jalexand
That's a difficult one to answer! I bought both new, the IWC has more marks on it but I bought it in June 2008 and I bought the AP in August 2010. I am more worried about scratching the AP due to its value so it doesn't get worn as much, the IWC has a couple of light marks on the bezel but is still in excellent condition after two and a half years.Originally Posted by PhiloStan

Had the IWC, want the AP.
AP. The 15300 is the definitve sports luxury watch IMO.
AP, it's a classic. I still love the Ingy though, and price really has to come into play to make a choice.
The AP is certainly superior in pedigree (and even to the in-house Big Ing - but that is closer). I can't really comment of the general case feel and finish as I haven't handled an AP, but IWC are exemplary in that respect.
Probably in terms of looks the Ing just has it, but they are both very similar but the Ing is just a bit neater - the bezel is a bit too thick for my likings on the AP. The ROO can look very cluttered in it's Chrono variants, but the simpler date version is much classier.
It's difficult not to consider the price in this choice though.
I owned the Royal Oak and always regret selling it. I still have the IWC 3227 and it is a very good watch but the AP is just thinner, more refined, more beautiful and more comfortable. Plus the Royal Oak is a true watch design classic.
But then the AP is a shed load more money!
IWC for me but close call.
Take into account cost and it's not so close.....
Mark
If I am not mistaken both are GG design.
I would probably go with AP, as this is one as this is more iconic than the iwc.
Best
Is it a gift, and I have to keep it? The AP. Am I spending my own money? The IWC.
I own a 3227 in steel, and it's a big watch - heavy & proud form the wrist. A lovely piece, but I don't find myself wearing it much...
AP for me
It's the Nick Faldo factor for me. He endorsed this watch, right?
I like the idea of the AP 15300 at IWC 3227 prices! The AP is a much more attractive and distinctive watch.
But given the price differential, it is a slightly unfair comparison. There are a few IWCs in the higher (AP 15300) price bracket that I would choose ahead of the AP 15300.
Royal Oak 15300 for me, for reasons already mentioned: mainly the heft and height of the IWC Ingy 3227. Gorgeous though it is, I found the IWC too top-heavy to be comfortable for more than a few hours on the wrist. The AP is well-balanced, more discreet, has a higher quality finish and a beautifully decorated movement with 22k gold engraved rotor, visible through the display back.
Both beautiful Genta designs (3227 little more derived from the original). The Ingy is built like a tank so does not have the finesse of the AP. Finish to the case and bracelet of the Ingy is superb and cannot see how it could be much bettered at any price. However there is a considerable difference in price of purchase and servicing costs between the two models. Would love to own an AP but quite content with my 3227.
AP for me, is beautiful :)
Had a couple of Royal Oaks - (14790 and 15300) sold both - regret letting the latter go  now have the Huitieme for 'special occasions'
Have the 3234 Ingenieur (Ceramic) - cracker of a watch but a different 'wearer' - the AP is 100% style and class (Top Triangle  and costs accordingly) - the IWC is more sporty/eyecatching (or the AP more subtle) and for the money a watch you must own one day !!
Good luck
Cheers, Peter
I love the RO (not the ROO that is). I can hardly think of a watch which is as stylish, iconic, sporty and one of its kind as a Royal Oak. I hope to own one one day!
AP for sure, it is an icon!
Had both. Very different watches, although they look similar. The Inge is a solid, heavy, well engineered watch. The head feels a little bit too heavy. It is a large (thickness!!) sports watch and will not look nice with formal wear IMHO.
The 15300'looks' like a sports watch but wears like a classy 'Sunday' watch. It's pretty thin and perfectly balanced. The finish is TOP LEAGUE. The bracelet is a Masterpiece. It'll fit any occasion except canyoning or building a house, not that it would break but it will scratch and service and refinish at AP is proportional to the price of the watch...
If you can only buy one: go for the AP
AP, it just looks better (although I would like to own either).
AP on its styling, movement and build quality. Its an icon.
Disclaimer I own the AP Royal Oak Dual Time ....and absolutely love it.
James
A.P although I prefer the ROO than the RO :bounce:
Thanks for all the useful replies. I agree with someone mentioning that the IWC seems to look sportier, but I also know that the AP is more iconic and luxurious. Servicing costs actually did not come to my mind as I've never serviced any of my watches, but I will consider that factor.
It would be the AP for me, it just has some extra class about it in my eyes.
15300 every day of the week! Had one, sold it & now truly miss it! stupid me.... :drunken:
The AP is a design classic. So it gets my vote.
How much is it to service a 15300 at AP?Originally Posted by PhiloStan

Its the AP for me, for no reason other than I prefer the look of it.
If cost of purchase and servicing didn't come into it, the AP would be the one for me.
The AP for me. I'd absolutely love one but I think it will always be outside my budget.
Glad to see you still have it!!! Love the AP but at 39mm it's a bit on the small side for me, so would have to plump for the IWCOriginally Posted by Argee1977
The Ing for me, the one issue I have with the RO is the thinness of the hands. To me they are too small for a lump of stainless like that.
regards
Tim
Much prefer the IWC 3227 for no particular reason.
Definitely the AP for me; think it's a lot more interesting to look at, but still (relatively) understated. I've been seriously close to getting one on the odd occasion they've popped up on SC, but still struggle with justifying the price even at SC prices...
Some have said they prefer the ROO but in my opinion it is just too big and garish, the RO is just about right (but then I do have fairly slight wrists so tend toward the 'smaller' sizes anyway).
The AP is a finer timepiece but expected given the discepancy in prices between the two models. Although they share similarities in design they are very different watches. A fairer comparison may be comparing the AP with the VC Overseas 47040. Have you possibly considered the VC?
the quality of the finish of the VC, although high, is not on the level of AP.Originally Posted by mylofitz
