Re: What watch would you own if money was no object

    If money were no object...

Interesting question, really is. I have no idea if I'm typical or non-typical as a watch collector, but as many of you know, I'm strictly a one marque man - Heuer.
This isn't just limited to my spending power*, I really don't get any feelings about other marques - there are the odd exceptions that catch my eye, but I rarely buy any. I've quickly scanned through the 6 pages of watches posted on this thread - I recognised many of the makers, but very few do anything for me.
*I don't mean that I'm loaded, far from it, I mean that Heuers aren't *that* expensive compared to the pieces shown in this thread.

I genuinely would rather have an Autavia than a Patek or Hublot or Richard Mille (dunno if that is spelled correctly). or any of the super expensive brands. That's not be trying to be clever, it's just a fact. I don't know why, I've tried to get excited about some other watches, but it's short lived. I guess the question to me would be more relevant if it was "What would you buy if all watches were the same price, say a couple of hundred quid".. then that would rule out the 'want' for something uber expensive.

I enjoy the Heuer hunting, because money sometimes isn't the issue, it's finding one.
In a way, it's a blessing, as I never have that feeling of wanting a £200K watch!

Is anyone else out there blighted with this type of collecting, ie. one marque?

I'm the exact opposite whereby I am very reluctant to own more than one example of a brand. This leads me to a one in/one out and a slight box-ticking mentality. Neither collecting strategy is "right", but both produce a collection that is not for everyone - but that's the nature of collecting.

Also tempted by a Nautilus for some 1970s giggles. Unbelievably bad value for a steel watch with a conventional movement, but if money really is no object...
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

An easy choice for me. A Glashutte Original Senator Chronometer in white or yellow gold.

    Money no object?
I'd commision Ming Thein to build 2 of his minute repeaters (one for me and one for him) as outlined in the early days of watch talk. I can't find it at the mo with my search skills, but it is rally wort the effort to trawl through his early postings.

A one-off one-of-a-kind Roger W. Smith pocket watch. With complications to include:

    Tourbillon
    Minute repeater
    Perpetual calendar
    Moonphase
    Split-second chronograph
    GMT indicator

    and so on.

Pretty hard choice... It changes from time to time.

For now i probably want to have a 5296 white gold. A tz member has one.

This is the closest for me that PP does to a do-it-all watch in the sense that it's certainly a dress watch, it's thin and discreet enough to wear with any formal outfit, but the sector dial make it just casual (sporty even) enough to wear with jeans and a t-shirt. Even though I like the complicated models more, I don't think any are as versatile - although the discontinued 5396 sector dial annual calendar almost pulled off the same trick off as well. (I'm still lusting after the 5205 I saw last week though).
