What on earth could a thief hope to do with such a car? Here's hoping they don't damage it before he gets it back.
Hope you don't mind me spreading the word.
Some of you know that my other passion is Classic Porsches and an all round good guy and Porsche fanatic and journalist has this morning had a unique and very rare Porsche stolen - he's owned it for 40 years and is obviously very upset.
I'm posting the details under the rare chance that somebody sees or hears anything how little or big about the car.
Thanks
Thomas

Probably one of the best-known 356s in the UK (for all kinds of reasons!), Del's 'Streamliner' 356 coupe was stolen last night from his house in Farnham.
It is chassis number11176 – a Reutter-bodied 1952 coupe modified with full Le Mans-style fender skirts all round, louvred rear quarter window inserts, through the bonnet fuel filler, etc. The Police haven't even come round to see him*– they say there's nothing they can do but hope it gets picked up the the ANPR cameras (what a f+++++g joke). It's probably on a boat, or on a remote farm, but it will resurface sometime, surely?
It disappeared sometime between 9.00pm Monday night and 8.00am Tuesday morning (today).
PLEASE tell everyone and keep your eyes and ears open. Del's owned this car for ever... His number is 01252 726731 - mine (Keith Seume - editor of Classic Porsche magazine) is 01208 871490

Lovely car. Can't help but think it was stolen to order, though, given how unusual it is.

Yep, The sad thing is someone has probably been waiting for the opportunity to have this for a while and its probably in cargo half way across the channel.Originally Posted by Dave E

Unfortunately it looks as though it would have been a planned / to order job - such a shame.Originally Posted by Gilly

So sad for the guy. A once in a lifetime motor.
Certainly sounds like it was a job ordered by someone with a collection somewhere.
What is that thing in the back in the first pic - Tatra?
If so, I get the connection.
Correct, well spotted Del has a couple of TatrasOriginally Posted by WatchScout
I hate hearing about things like this - hope they find it and flay the thieves.
It's just a matter of time...
I’ve forwarded this on to both bike and diving forums as it’s such a rare & unusual-looking car: here’s hoping.
But even if it’s stolen to order I would have thought and hope that wherever it surfaces it will be recognised.

I'll forward this to the TR Register forum.

EDIT: done. Now it's time to comment. It's really some sort of virus, I think. A fellow TR owner's Landy got stolen in London last week; found back by a police officer. 5mls from his house, ready to be shipped inside a container. There's still hope that I will surface.

Lot of places where they don't care too much about VIN's. Feel really sorry for the owner BTW. Car has been posted on the Dutch Porscheforum as well.Originally Posted by pluseditor

What an absolute beauty and such a shame too.
The thieving scumbags who nicked it must have known what they were doing to go for something that unique. I hope it's not hidden away in a container already.
Gutted for the owner. I'm not far from fareham and occasionally spend time at Portsmouth and Southampton docks so will keep an eye out...

I hope it returns safely.
A beautiful and rare motor like this will almost certainly have been stolen on 'commision' from some ruthless collector and will most likely only turn up by accident.
If the owner had it had home, he should maybe even be happy that he did not catch the thieves in flagrante delicto.
Most likely the thieves themselves were/are also completely ruthless.
Some years ago, I was in Poland with several friends. Amongst other vehicles, we drove a brand new Land Cruiser.
On the way to our destination, I told the others, that we were being followed. They just scoffed at me.
At night the LandCruiser was stolen in the middle of a deep dark forrest. The Cruiser was parked right next to the cabin.
Nobody heard anything. No glass was in evidence. Most likely the locks were 'hacked' via a PC. We had been in Poland several days at that point.
The motor had been drived straight through some trees and down an incline where signs showed that a semi had been waiting. The Landcruiser would have been driven into the container and off to the Ukraine.
Police said, that it was mafia and they most likely would have stood ready with machine guns. Had a door opened, they would have opened fire.
At least, that was the modus operadi according to the Polish plod.
Horrible.
They deserve to be publicly executed for things like this. It makes me so mad that they think they deserve these things rather than the owners who have worked hard for them. GRRRR

Dreadful news Bootsy for your mate Del. Just having had my car broken into, and some quite personal belongings stolen felt like an utter intrusion, heaven knows how awful this must be.
This sort of thing really makes my blood boil!
I really hope he gets some good news soon and it has not gone too far
Jon
I remember when this car was restored, had some work done on my Healey at the same workshop and I met Delwyn back then, almost 20 years ago. What an absolute nightmare.

Gutted for the bloke :(
Feel for the guy can't imagine what he's going through.
The countrys just getting worse.
Just horrible. That is such an amazing looking car.
Me too. Doesn't just apply to cars, either.Originally Posted by Jsnmb

Terrible news, As stated before though, looks like it was stolent to order.
Awful news, my heart goes out to the owner. I'd be absolutely gutted if my pride and joy was stolen.
customs are getting a lot better when it comes to spotting things in containers that shouldn't be there, they have a lot of equipment that they use that doesn't necessarily make public knowledge so lets hope that if it is going somewhere in a container that it is spotted.
Great news, pasted from DDK forum from one of Del's close friends
How about this! Delwyn has just called – the Police have found the car!!!! It was reported by a 'member of the public' as sitting in the corner of a quiet car park on an estate a few miles away, covered over. The cover had blown off it, so the person called the Police to say that there was this car just sitting there. We think whoever stole it, tucked away to keep watch to see if there was a tracker fitted... No more details yet – Del can't get the car back until the SOCO has done his stuff, but he wants to thank everyone for their concern, help and words of consolation.
What a great end to a horrible tale. Drinks all round tonight, then! everyone
Wow, what a stroke of luck!
thats amazing. its not often stories like these end well.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Fantastic, I was keeping an eye on this thread hoping it would turn up.
It's good news, but maybe another headache for the owner, lets hope it was just some local scroats that took it, and not a more professional outfit, otherwise they may be tempted back.
Jeez what an astounding piece of good fortune, there's not so much of that about. Just great for the chap.
Excellent news, I thought this would be sat in a private garage in eastern Europe by now...
I hope they manage to track down the rotter's that took it
great to get it back. Now time to get some BIG DOGS in case they come back :)

The Police should leave it there and do obs on it. The gang no doubt would go back for it and get caught red handed - they may uncover an operation going on and clear up more crimes.

Great news, great plan. Can we then hang the bastards when they have got all useful info out of them.Originally Posted by Rod
I'm glad this has turned up but I would assume, like the others, that they would plan to come back for it. I would have thought it would make sense to keep an eye on it and see who turns up.
Superb news. Saw this story over and PH and feared it would be long gone in a container.
great news...what a beauty.
must be difficult to put a value on something so rare but any idea what the car would be worth?
What an amazing result, thought for sure it'd be in eastern Europe by now!
Bet the owners now triple checking his security arrangements...........
That is so good!
Really pleased for the owner.
good such a positive outcome :) :) :)

Too bad, that he will now have to deal with the inevitable feeling of fear of when the evil doers strike again....if ever.
