Supercool! Without being vulgar, on a scale of 1 to 10 how expensive was the service ? 10 being really expensive!
After 4 months this 70's Pilot Chronograph is finally back after having had the full Zenith Restoration Treatment. I bought it last year on eBay for a song due to the state of the dial, hands, casing, crystal etc which had seen better days. Fully restored, cleaned, extensive movement service, replacement dial, crystal, hands, casing machined / polished. Basically everything that could be done has been done (with all original parts returned which is a bonus) and I'm over the moon. Only 500 of these watches were made allegedly so uber rare too. Just need to find an original bracelet now :?

10  It was completely restored with many original parts replaced by NOS which added to the considerable expense. I went ahead with it knowing these parts were considerably limited and guess if it was left too long would never be restored at all. I ensured all original parts replaced were returned as I wanted to ensure they gave the watch future provenance.Originally Posted by waiteu2

For what it's worth I think you've done the right thing.its a stunning piece. It's making me regret selling my grande class grande date el primero last year.hopefully I'll replace it this year!
The finished result looks superb, well done. Was the work done at Zenith in Switzerland or their UK service centre.
Now that really is something special!
It's dead cool, and one can kinda see how this might have been the inspiration for the new Stratos!
Yes, had to be sent to Zenith in Switzerland. Love the machining they did on the casing 8)Originally Posted by RickS

Very nice job you've done there - Looks amazing !!!
Amazing
I have a vintage zenith i was thinking about sending back to zenith but had no examples of their work so i'm really glad you posted! Interesting to know they have a stash on NOS parts as mine could do with a dial. Just need to start saving now
i have to agree with all the comments , amazing
Great stuff that is one awesome looking watch. Do you have any before pictures?
Very nice Jason. You can't beat of bit of NOS freshness. 8)
Do you know if that figure is just the Zenith branded watches, or does that include the Movado version too?Originally Posted by Chinnock

This article suggest more than 500 made, though I have no idea if it is actually accurate!Originally Posted by Richie_101

Magnificant-well done
That is a great article, well researched by the looks of it, thanks! 8) And indeed suggests that more were made, and just the Zenith version too.Originally Posted by rasputin10
Thanks for that, another good read. I've never seen that version of the Movado dial text before, it's completely different to the one I have. Here's mine. (I've posted this pic twice tonight, so it's a good thing it won't be heading to the SC any time soon or I may be accused of 'malpractice'.)Originally Posted by Chinnock

I remember doing some research when i bought my EP. The Movado versions were made for the us market and had 17 jewels in the movement (something to do with tax iirc) rather than 31. some more info here
I always assumed the numbers mentioned in the first article included both Movado and Zenith, though i can't find any evidence for that :?
Nice bracelet. Is it a Movado or generic as I'm looking for something decent to use on my Zenith's 22mm lugsOriginally Posted by Richie_101

My watch does have the 17 jewel calibre in it, so you may be right about the Movado/US export link. Thanks again, that's more good information to know. :wink:Originally Posted by rasputin10

It's a (brushed) Watchadoo Lumpy. You need a chunky bracelet as it's a pretty heavy watch, and can feel unbalanced on a strap I found.... I tried it on a Nato for a while but it felt like an orange on the end of a cocktail stick. :DOriginally Posted by Chinnock

They did a real nice job restoring that Zenith.
Well done!!! the watch is lovely
Just seen this thread via SC, they did a lovely restoration job and makes the wait for my Rainbow Flyback to come back even longer now ! Mine hasn't had to go to Switzerland but after some advice on here is having new face/hands etc. again I began to wonder how long the stock would last although is nothing like as rare/old as these examples.
Very nice job - looks mint!
Beautiful :)
And now available at an SC near you...
