    SOTC + Late Introduction

    Hi,

I have been a member on here for a reasonable amount of time, but only post occasionally.

I am 40, married, have two dogs, live near Henley on Thames, but originally from London, and am about to move near Edinburgh.

I have gone from Panerai to Rolex to Vintage Rolex, with a bit of Omega in-between:

    I started with Panerais:

005 Luminor Marina Logo; 024 Submersible; and 114 Luminor Base.

But my wife was right when she said why do you continue to wear grandfather clocks on your wrist, so they all had to go and 40mm was to become the norm.

I then switched to modern(ish) Rolex:

11610 LV, Submariner (Green Bezel); 16570, Explorer II (T25 White); 14060, ND Submariner; and 116400 Milgauss (White).

I also tried an IWC - IW371401 Portuguese (gold/bronze not blue) - but despite being 40.9mm, it does't have much of a bezel and it felt a bit too much like a dinner plate on my wrist.

For a few weeks I had a gold and blue handed Omega Aqua Terras.

Then I bought my second 16570, Explorer II (T25 White), but like the first one, I sold it within a week.

Along came a 16700, GMT-MASTER, which I kept for a while, and it had lovely creamy WG surround plots, but it had to go.

Then I sold everything and bought a couple of maxi-case, maxi-dial ceramic Subs:

116610 LN Ceramic Submariner; and 116610LV Ceramic Green Submariner

Great, great watches, but a bit too bling for me now. They went, as did the Omega 3590.50.00 Tritium Speedmaster. Perfect on an Omega leather dark brown alligator, but marginally too big at 42mm. I fancy the new retro one (39.7mm), but not at £3.5K, assuming that will be the price.

So this is now the new (vintage) collection. I won't embarrass myself and say they are all keepers and I am all done, but I do now find myself visiting Watch Talk more than Sales Corner and Vintage Rolex Forum more than Vintage Rolex Market.

    Thanks,

    Alex.

    1680 1978 Submariner

    16750 GMT-MASTER

16570 Explorer II (not quite vintage, but definitely a keeper third time round)

    9401/0 Tudor Submariner

1675 Brown Nipple Dial GMT-MASTER (more often on an aged leather strap, and I have two of Jedly's coming to me as well. Two tone bracelets are not for me)

    Re: SOTC + Late Introduction

That is a wonderful set of dials, which really complement one another ..... as a previous post said, a great bit of history across the range - and a great example of why a watch is for life, not just for Christmas, as age leads to distinction and uniqueness .....

    Re: SOTC + Late Introduction

Congratulations on such a marvellous collection :)

I to have recently been considering getting a Vintage 1680 or similar, but finding it a nightmare to locate a genuine piece, without some niggle that it may not be 100% genuine.

Could you please give me some pointers. :)

    Regards

    Tony

    HI Alex

Very focused collection. The Tudor stands out for me, but they all look great.

    Cheers
