I don't consider myself a fan of AP, but I have to say that's lovely. Looks fantastic on the wrist too, Rob.
Best not to think about the outgoing too much...
Difficult decision, but I've let my Portuguese 5001 go. It was a grail, and in an ideal world I'd keep it, but I wasn't wearing it much so I've decided to be ruthless as there's another itch I need to scatch and I need to recoup some funds.
I've found an AP 15300ST with a white dial. It's a bit of a marmite watch (like it's cousins the PP Nautilus and VC Overseas) as it's a real 70's Genta design. There was the temptation to look at the new 15400 when it comes out, but I'm pretty sure that would be too big for my wrists. Similarly the ROO looks comically large on me. I wanted a watch that spans the dressy/sporty, with the emphasis on dressy as I'll be wearing it for work with a suit.
Initial impressions are very good. There is a great sense of quality with the RO - the brushed/mirror finish of the bracelet and case blend wonderfully. The effect is much more obvious dynamically as the light catches the surfaces. The dial is perhaps the most striking feature though - there is a fantastic 3-d effect from the tapisserie dial and applied indices - it really is lovely to look at. The inhouse movement from one of the "holy trinity" adds to the appeal.
What really strikes me as well is the comfort and wearability you get from a thin watch - the case and bracelet are unfashionably thin by today's standards, but this makes it sit on the wrist extremely well. (The 15202 must be like a sliver on the wrist!).
I'm not convinced it's really that "sporty" in the white-dial guise - the black and blue dial version may lean more that way, and although the screw-down crown gives you confidence in the water, the finishing is so well done that I would hate to scrape it on anything.
I will miss this fella though!
Both very nice chap

Am biased in liking the IWC, but that's a very nice AP you've got yourself, like the textured dial a lot.
I do prefer the IWC, but congrats! Wear in good health!
A beautiful watch and some top notch pics of it, congrats!
Tough choice, and one I've thought about more than once.
Right one out, right one in ....... as long as you are happy with your decision
I'm in the 'unsure about AP' camp and I adore that IWC.
Having said this the AP looks lovely. Is it heavy???
Congrats matey.
Pitch
That looks great, far better than the IWC in my opinion. Superb photos too.
It was very difficult to let the IWC go, but I had to recoup a decent amout. It was that or my JLC Master Moon - which I'd get less for, but more importantly would be difficult to find again if I missed it too much.Originally Posted by Pitch3110
The AP is substantial, but not heavy - it's too thin to be bulky but I think all the links are solid. Probably similar to my Speedy Pro in terms of weight, but it's "denser".
A tough choice between the two but if I would get an AP that would be the one I went for.
It's pictures like this that makes me consider AP... :)
I have a 5001 myself and can't imagine ever selling it, but I understand why you made the choice you did; that RO is absolutely beautiful, and a very good size on your wrist.
Nice incoming - very classy.

Congrates, Both are nice, one cool, and another beautiful.
Never been a fan of AP, but looking at that one sat on your wrist i think i could be turning.
A good choice i think.
It's very difficult to chose between the two as they're not really the same type of watch - apples and oranges really, but they're both beautiful in their own way. The display back of the 5001 is still very hard to beat - the AP movement may have the heritage but the IWC looks incredible - and not really like anything else. As I said, I'd have kept both if I'd had the cash for the AP, but I'm adopting the serial-flipper mentality, so I had to sacrifice the 5001. It's also the fact that the watch I wanted came up and forced the issue for me.Originally Posted by mark996
I think you made the right choice, the A P really does look superb on the wrist.
Yep, that's really nice and actually turns me to the AP brand.... God damn it!
Great swap IMO...the RO and ROC are lovely pieces. Agree with your sentiments about the ROO...extrapolating them, I find them too loud and obvious...not very AP imo. FWIW, IWC don't do anything for me in general...you've made the right choice!
Regarding the dial and finish that you commented on...it really is exceptional
.. Wearing my ROC (silver/white dial with grey subdials) I've had lots of compliments, mostly from women (one in Canada described it as 'hot' in that sexy accent)...striking but not bling. The quality is apparent just by noticing it on someone's wrist.
Enjoy.
I think that's a great swap, shame one has to go but it's an improvement
Great photos too
Both very nice, and if you weren't wearing the IWC, then you've made the right choice.
Watch Club have one, with a black dial, here:

Both beautiful watches. Shame you had to choose...
Much prefer the AP, in fact it's the only watch i really lust after.
Stunning pics. I could see myself buying a 15300 one day. Maybe as a last and only watch.
Love the sharpness, the size, the dial, date feature is handy, not too dressy and not too sporty.
Yep, this could be it.
:drunken: Nice watches....
Need to save $$ for it...
