Ended up buying one of these, this review contributed to that choice. Omega should get you to write some marketing for them, lol.

    Great review!
But from my personal experience, today I feel that 42 mm would
have been better choice then XL. Very nice watch anyway.

    REVIEW - Omega Planet Ocean

Just looked at mine and appreciate the build quality. It's been through all sorts with me and still ticking away like a trooper.

Re: REVIEW - Omega Planet Ocean

Very enthusiastic review (great to see), but the last batches of the 2531 contained the co-axial movements? Erm, no - that never happened.

As for finishing on the PO being superior to the 2531 SMP, I'd have to disagree because it is an unfair comparison as the latter was released 12 years prior. Between the cases there is no difference whatsoever and the more intricate bracelet design on the SMP is clearly better finished. I'll agree that the PO dial is much better finished than a 2531 but a SMP 2220 with applied indices (and sold alongside the PO) has the upgraded dial.

Still, as much as I love my SMPs I will be adding a PO to the collection in the not too distant future. I think because of the way the design harkens back to the vintage Seamaster 300 it is the right model for Omega to have as their main diver. Very classic looks.

This is my all time favorite! While having worn it on steel for the last two years, I have recently fellin love with PO on grey-green Nato:

I think that's what I love best about the PO, it's just so versatile, it looks great on a number of different straps.

Great review of IMO best version of PO. I am big Omega fan and I hope that I will buy some SMP or PO in near future.

I love it in the orange, I had the black for a while but not as stunning.

Re: REVIEW - Omega Planet Ocean

Either Version can be bought used on here for around £1,500 which IMHO is a bit of a steel. I think the 42m black and white is on it's way to becoming a bit of a classic. Give it a couple of years and it will be a lot closer to £2,000, which would still be a bargain when you think what price used subs will be selling at by then !!.

Re: REVIEW - Omega Planet Ocean

my PO 42 mm b/w was the one watch i would never sell.....guess what....i've sold it :P
the 45 i found just to boring, a lot of empty black space and the 42....i ended up feeling the same, just a little to big for my linking. I guess that if there was a 40 mm it would be perfect.

Re: REVIEW - Omega Planet Ocean

Great review, enjoyed reading it. Find the SMP200 pictured especially gorgeous. An orange PO is definitely in my to-buy list, just have to get round to a couple of other purchases first.

Completely agree, and with the iconic status of the 2254 pushing prices of that smp into the £1250 regions, it makes the PO an even better buy in ny opinion.

Clarkson certainly has a Railmaster XXL but for most of the recent programmes (last three years or so) he mainly wears a PO 2500 45.5.

    WOW

    What a great review!

Personally the orange to me seems a little ott as for the sizes, I think the 42mm looks marginally more proportionate than the 45mm? Would I be correct in saying this?

    Both seem lovely pieces though!

    Thanks for that!

Thanks for a great review of the 2500 PO. I now have a PO 8500 XL having swapped from the 42mm version, both in black and white on steel. Great watches and the 8500 Si is beauty to behold.

Good history and intro, thank you for taking the time to write it up.
