swatch. everytime
Morning all,
I am a bit protective of my decent watches so i always like to have something to bring on holidays for sitting by the pool, hacking about etc.
Unfortunately i dont have the good sense to hang onto them when i get back and normally flip!
So what i am looking for is a suggestion for a decent watch on rubber or bracelet, that would suit a decent holiday beater, say less than £500 at SC prices
swatch. everytime
Almost anything from the Victorinox range fits the bill. There was a cracking DiveMaster 500 at £250 or so recently a superb price since they retail around £700. I have one of those myself and they are absolutely brilliant.
The Pre-Bond Omega Seamaster comes in under budget as well, and is a quality beater! Could knock one of those about for a fortnight and still flip it for just about what it cost I'd say.
PRS-18 on Timefactors retro rubber? Or, keeping with the Precista theme, a second hand PRS-14 , with its polished case, its only a strap-change away from lounging by the pool to out for a decent dinner ( Black rubber strap to say, Black croc strap).
I use my CWC RN quartz for holidays.
F.T.F.A.
Leading up to holidays I often get the urge to buy a solar diver. Maybe it's the thought of spending extra time around water and in the sun. Lots of Seiko or Citizen models to choose from that will handle plenty of punishment.
Something from Seiko - worn by millionaire tourists, hotel staff and taxi drivers alike. If you get away on holidays as much as me (not often), the Seiko SBCM023 should suit nicely - it's got an 8 year battery life!
Agree with HappyJack, how about a Seiko Monster? Pretty much bomb proof and available on rubber or bracelet and easily under budget?
Seiko or Steinhart. I'd go for seiko but Steinhart is in your budget.

Maybe something from Seiko or Citizen.

or perhaps head a little north of your budget and snap this one up viewtopic.php?f=3&t=220027&p=2268929&hilit=stowa#p 2268929 you may end up keeping rather than flipping
did think about that :? just a bit more than i should spend :roll:Originally Posted by Mr A
A Sumo would fit the bill nicely.
My holiday watch is mostly a Seiko Monster.
I buy a used one right before my holidays and then sell it when I get back.
Never lost any money on it ;)
This is what I’d do. Can't go wrong.Originally Posted by XXoF
Pretty bomb-proof and also looks good enough for evening out etc.
you are right it would ;)Originally Posted by OldHooky

Take something mechanical, they can take a lot as well.
If you are really into watches something plastic won't do, not even for a holiday!
Buying second hand, you can find a lot of watch for your money with some of the micro brands like Benarus, Zixen, Helson etc.
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Paid £155 for this.....Seiko SKZ211J1....wears similar to a SD.
Why spend £500 when you can one of these Tuna look-a-likes for far less.
"This elegant range of professional diving watches is supplied in a presentation case. The Pro 500M has a fluo-red minute hand and water resistant depth rating of 500 metres. It is based on a quality SEIKO VX series quartz movement for precision time keeping. The watch also features
Stainless steel case
Uni-directional ratchet action rotating bezel
Double 'O' Ring screw-lock crown for positive watertight seal
Scratch resistant mineral glass lens
Date display
Extra length heavy-duty black polyurethane strap."
Personally I'd recommend a Steinhart.
I'd go for a Seiko skx007 or even a G-Shock for holiday wear
My holiday watch.
Completely dependable and indestructable.
Inexpensive too.
As wingtsun says, dont really get the idea of a holiday watch. I usually take 2 or 3, one of which will be a G-shock for more vigorous activities. A diver on rubber and maybe something on a bracelet. Its a nice time to use and appreciate the watches I find.
Citizen Orca or a German Bund diver if you are into your military stuff.
In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
I use my Aerospace for all vacations. It may be slightly to pricey (saw one for about 700 on SC) but it fits the bill otherwise - for me at least. Might be able to pick something up on the bay ?
Yes but what if the battery runs out whilst you're on holiday :wink:Originally Posted by Routers

I am not a fan of quartz, otherwise I'd suggest a G. I like the Seiko option or perhaps a Steinhart Ocen 1, then you can pretend it's a sub...(but not quite) 8)
Its already been said before but my hols watch is also a Seiko Orange Monster, bomb proof, never leaves my wrist, fitted with a matching orange silicon dive strap.

There're often some interesting options at that price on SC - you missed a Laguna yesterday within budget, which comes with bracelet and Isofrane rubber and is therefore an ideal holiday option (mine survived a depth of 1.3m in the pool last year!) - and a Sumo would of course be ideal too.
I just bought a Seiko SKX007k from Creation on a metal bracelet for £118 delivered ( in 3 days) and it was perfect for my holiday (beach/sea/pool and evenings out) after breaking my SKX007j last year while I was away. Hasn't been off my wrist since. :)
I've always had holiday watches. Not that I mind wearing the others it is just they are either not water resistent or have leather straps.

I use a Tag Aquaracer ana-digi... On rubber (the bracelet is the nicest bracelet I've ever worn, but rubber is better for holidays). It has two time zones, stopwatch, waterproof etc etc
A little above your budget, but you can pick them up from Tag outlets for around £1k (probably less)
Don't let the yellow strap put you off!!!
Oh well everyone else is doing it!

yep, i usually take my OM on holiday looks nice in the sun,and you don't have any "security" issues with it.
All,
I bought one of these last summer (pre-owned) and it's my holiday watch:

After seeing Tony's latest aquisition, I would say the PRS-50 would fit the bill. Take a couple of different straps, and you've got an all-purpose holiday watch.
Failing that a Seiko diver is always the easy answer to a question like that.
Last holls i took a Seiko om, a Divex500 a lot of watch for very litle money, and a Tissot dress watch. Three watches imho is to many, i just could not make up my mind. as a rule i would take a g shock and something else, but three was more than enough
Bought this

:D
Nice 8) , beats my Monster in the holiday watch stakes.
decided to treat myself to a holiday watch recently 8)
mahoosive compared to my GMT II
Look at the Steinhart range always on SC and very sellable when you flip it
This is my holiday watch, a Seiko with a bit of colour; watch from sales corner, strap from West Coast time, job done :D
This year however for a bit of a change I fancy an Orange Monster on a shark mesh strap 8)
happy holidays
grant
Nice find in the end there.
I am looking for a nice cheaper mechanical with a bit of colour for my hols. Thinking the £100 mark rather than £500 though :D

I love this watch, is that price the rrp or was it from SC? I think this might need to be my next purchase :lol:Originally Posted by watchmad
I d go for either a Seiko Diver G shock or a Cwc and would be looking at £80/100 for a seiko and about £40/50 for the CWC/Gshock i ve got a CWC and its as tough as old boots and great value for money
When I go on holiday I just wear one of my regular watches on bracelet .I dont get holiday watches.
