I'd be interested to see a direct comparison Alan and I found the Davosa comparison interesting. Though as John said it really does make the Zeno redundant.

I've got some pics of my old Zeno here:
    http://s15.photobucket.com/albums/a394/ ... rre%20CAF/

Here you can kind of get an idea of it on it's own. The Zeno is a very nice watch though Eddie takes the CAF to a much better level.
There's another one here under Mechanic Instruments

Mechanic Instruments MI 5 has a funny ring to it. I've not seen that one before.

Your pic shows about the drop off of the lugs at certain angles well. I notice also that you have it on a different strap. What did you put on it?

Just a standard Timefactors aviator but with a black buckle. (check the reflection of the symbol :D )

Same strap I had on the Zeno. It started with a black buckle too.

Had loads of wear out of it, so I had to get a new one for the CAF.

    Here a black studded one.

The red studded ones were amazing but I am going to stick to plain black for the CAF.

Looks very nice - too bad the lug to lug length rules it out for me.

    Various thoughts …

    1. The crystal. I wasn’t sure what shape of crystal Eddie was going to use. Some of the Longines had quite a pronounced dome. The Precista has a gentle dome with most of the rise coming from the high sides. This is similar to the later Rolex acrylic shape (especially when a cyclops was involved). This allows for maximum (without distortion) dial view. It was works on the Precista giving it "the modern look".

    image from the French review

    2. The lugs are a tad less splayed than both the Zeno and suprisengly the Longines. Yes there is a noticeable splay, but it’s a tad less … and works a tad better, giving the watch a more proud profile.

    3. I love the flat steel edged hands.

    4. I couldn’t care less if the bezel revolved or not. But now that it does, I like it. The red pointer is nice.

    5. The engraving at the back doesn’t appear deep enough. Tho not an issue.

It’s a great size, all the elements are well proportioned, it sits well on the wrist, and it’s good to have a 24mm watch again.

Thanks for posting up your thoughts and pictures John.

I agree with you about the lugs, I am finding that the more I have been wearing it the more I've noticed the better the fit of the lugs that the Zeno. The springbar position leaves a bit more clearance and with drilled lugs it's so much easier to change straps.

It's acid-etched, I'm not sure you could have got all the fine detail with engraving.

The Zeno was long and flat. The Precista is squat and upright. I am amazed how visually correct is the angle and splay of the lugs ...

    John,

Quick question - how far is the dial and hand from the top of the crystal. Just a personal preference but I never took to the PRS50b due to the large distance between the two.

I know what you are saying ... in term of badness, if the 50b was 10 (on a scale of 10) then the CAF is 3. It's a tad there (I spotted it too  ) but hardly noticeable. The flat polished edges of the hands make them "jump up" too, which helps.

Thanks John, I was happy with the PRS5 just never took to the PRS50b, just one of those things. I really do like the CAF, I will hopefully pick one up soon, sure to be an Eddie classic.

Any news from the Czech forums - how has it been received over there guys? Hopefully as a fitting tribute to the airmen.

I am sorry about your experience with the 50b (I had it on a passaround). By opting for the b instead of the a, you missed what is probably Eddie's best dial. Here my old 50a on a Toshi (a terrific package). At some point I might get with Toshi and design a strap for the CAF but it is something I have to think about. It is not easy to be different without going over the top.

I later on blacked-out the stitches and it looked even cooler.

Au contraire Mr Abraxas, I have the 50aLE and love it to bits. Certainly not an everyday watch but sometimes, just sometimes, there are occasions when ONLY the 50a will do! I have mine on the eddie retro diver strap.

Another esteemed member recently asked me in a private communication about comparing "The 9" with the 50a and this is what I said:

More metal than the 50a. If anything it compares better with the 50b due to the acrylic ... but you are not looking down a well like the 50b.
I replaced the 50a for the 18a because I liked the case better, but I am beginning to go off bead-blasted watches so maybe I should swap back to the 50a ...     :(

I'd have kept the PRS-50a over the PRS-18, but then we are all a bit fickle in the world of the WIS

Here are couple of side by side phone shots with the PRS-50a and the PRS-9 if that helps.

Both are very nice watches. I love how they have that 'vintage' look without actually looking like old watches, I know that that sounds a bit sketchy but you know what I mean right?

Re: Czech Airforce Precista PRS-9 unboxing and first thoughts ..

Well, I understand this started with the question about how high the crystal is but the 50 and the 9 are completely different watches that can't be compared... one is a diver and the other is a (retro) pilot.

I don't like so much the crossed radiation thing on the 50a but I would love to get my hands on a 50b... Hard task but not urgent and I would settle for an Helson Skindiver if a 50b doesn't pop up at the SC by then...

Or maybe Eddie could bring that one back, fitted with the new Miyota and cheaper than the older AS version?

Wow! that is great watch and awsome homage, but for my taste these lugs are bent too much down. How does it sit on the really big wrists?!

    Hi,

no problem on my 8"+ wrist. Even the strap is long enough. Feels really comfortable the watch.

No, it's a great photo. You can clearly see in the Precista next to the Longines that the Precista's lugs are slightly less splayed and have a slightly sharper drop. Both elements making it a better watch. Trust me, I used to be a doctor. :blackeye:

The bent of the lugs is of no issue whatsoever. I strapped the watch up my arm and the lugs neither dug in or appear odd. "The drop" is just an illusion, it might as well be a flat bottomed watch, for the subject in question.

Looks like it fits like a glove! I wonder, would it be a good idea to put it on a bund strap at this bent of lugs?

    Hello,

    First post here! 8)

PRS 9 arrived today (037/11)... did try a few straps already, here is a picture I took a few minutes ago.

I really like this watch a lot! it has a lot of personality ... and also has a perfect size for me (16.5 cm wrist)

The readability is outstanding and the lume is very strong (sorry no picture taken).

Thanks Viktor, nice to know that the watch is ending up in the 'right' hands and it's been well received. If Eddie was planning on a week's closure then timefactors may be up again today.

I did plan of a watch cull this summer but going to find this one a hard one to resist.

I also think it would look killer on either a dark brown or black Hirsch Liberty. They are very close to Eddies white stitched straps but the stitching is a little different. They are real nice straps too! The watch is a real stunner! Congrats to Eddie on another great watch and congrats to everyone who has managed to get one!
