Keep the Speedy. Stepped dials are the ones to have 8) If it's got the rare big logo caseback ('69/'70 only) it'll command a premium :) Pics please, post service.
I also hereby declare my interest in the vintage leather :drunken:
As I'm approaching the 400 posts mark I thought of giving away a few odd pieces from the straps box.
1- A half jubilee bracelet, no brand, endlink marked 046. 20mm/16mm. Almost no stretch. 13 links, 3 removable.
2- A chinese stainless steel heavy bracelet. Adjustable lug ends, from 23mm down. 195mm long. Unused.
3- A vintage black leather rally perforated. 21mm/16mm. Used but not too abused.
Though, I'd much appreciate your opinion about these two, as I want to keep only one of them:
- a 1970 Omega Speedmaster (First watch worn on the Moon caseback!), which is coming back soon from service. (Pictured before the service in its full misery)
or
- a 1977 Rolex Datejust (birth year).
Any thoughts are of course very welcome.
I will pick 3 winners this week, randomly if more than one show interest. Please state which odd bit you'd be interested and I look forward to hearing your opinions.
Cheers,
Fernando.

I think keep the Datejust, especially as it's a birth year watch. Somehow, to me, the Datejust has a class all of its own that the Omega just doesn't have (collectible though it is).
I'm not usually a Rolex fan, as such, but in this case the Datejust does seem to me to be the keeper out of the two.
Could I put my name down for item 2, the Chinese bracelet, please. :-)
Rolex Datejust for me as the keeper. Looks immaculate and being a birth year just swings over the Speedy.
Another one interested in the Chinese heavy bracelet please :)
Keep the Speedy.
Not after any of the straps thanks!
"A man of little significance"
Speedy looks a bit abused but I assume will come back from its servce looking pristine. I have both watches: Speedy 1980 and Datejust 1991 - both 30yrs or more after my birth year. If I had to choose I think I'd keep the Speedy. No good reason, just personal preference.
If possible I'd suggest you keep both.
I'd be happy to give the rally strap a good home if it needs one :) .
Kind regards
Dave
I must say that despite liking the Speedy, there is something about the Rolex, that I very much like. And it being a birth year model, I'd keep that one if I was you... :)
Not fishing in the strap pond, but it's a nice gesture :)
Speedy all the way
The 21mm Rallye pls
Both watches are not hard to find again... so keep the one that talks to the heart.
If it was me, I'll keep the Speedy... but then you should also keep the rally strap (I would like it to be mine however:-( .... but it would look great on that! (even if 21mm is a narrow fit)
Cheers
/Kim
Thanks to all!
I'll bump it now and pick the winners tonight.
Cheers,
Fernando.
Personally I'd say keep the Speedmaster: there will be something enormously satisfying about knowing you had its various cosmetic issues sorted - and it dates from the Apollo period, which appeals to the space geek in my soul.
Bias to declare: I have never really "got" Rolex. I don't dislike them especially, but I don't like them especially either. *shrug*

Well, if you're offering, the rally one's nice. :)Originally Posted by SWECO2
The Rolex is much, much, more versatile. Keep it. Seems to be in lovely condition as well.
I'm a massive Rolex fan but the Datejust is not something that I have ever liked.
For me, the Omega will probably come back gleaming from its service, it's much more desirable and will hold its value for as long as you decide to keep it. You can find a much cheaper birth year watch and have a great Speedy too.
PS... If you pick my thread I'd absolutely love...
3- A vintage black leather rally perforated. 21mm/16mm. Used but not too abused.
Thanks
keep the Rolex,
Everyone should have a birth year watch, and if it goes, sooner or later you'll find yourself lacking a birth year watch!
rallye if it's available would be ace, although there is a lot of interest in that already!
Rolex
