Numbers one and three remain at the top of my wan't list Joff, particularly the Timemaster. I advertised for one a few weeks ago, and didn't even get a tickle.

The Type XX is a little easier to find, but I don't think I'll be able to find the cash for one any time soon.

Good luck in your hunt, and it's great to see you 'in the chase' again :D

    Three and Five for me.

All very personal, a couple of them do not appeal at all.

I have had a couple of Timemasters Doug, A luminous dial and a left handed black dial. They are great to playwith but not as wearable as some watches. The lugs are very long to accomadate the clip on strap system.
Its odd really how some watches are just so easy to wear, Speedys for instance.

I think I am leaning towards the IWC Portuguese, or the Breguet. I would like to find and older Breguet with Tritium that has gone that lovely creamy colour... :)

The Breguet and Omega for me. I don't like the large Chronoswiss crown. I would like the IWCs much more if they didn't have those huge power reserve indicators on them.

I'm with Stefan, the IWC is the one I'd choose... the design is clean and timeless.

With the exception of the Oris BC, personally, I've got no time for oversized/novelty crowns. I think if you were to wear No 1 in 20 years time, you'd get laughed at. :?

No a big fan of the Chronoswiss Tora chronograph - it's a bit busy for my tastes, no lume, little bit small. Nicely worked movement, though.

Do like the Timemaster, especially the h/w you've posted (the 40mm auto is too small, IMHO, and the onion crown looks silly. (Sillier? ))

So No.1, please, or No.2. (The wife would never buy me a watch without my help, but she's often threatened my with the IWC. Nice choice.)

Mantra.... 'You're not putting me off, You're not putting me off, You're not putting me off...... :D '

I don't know why I like them Joff, but there's something about them that I'll have to experience - some day. I prefer the 44mm left too. Interesting thing is, or at least it seems to me, is that you don't often see them for sale second hand. I guess this is because either few were sold new, or those that have them, keep them.

    No2 for me...lovely......

No1 has more spurious metalwork than a village blacksmith.

I had an example of the Breguet and, adequate as it was, it was no better made than, say, an O&W 7750 at a fraction of the price.

    IWC for sure...no contest.

Thats interesting Roger and a bit of a shame, I would have expected the Breguet to have been better than than that. I want to avoid the 7750 really, Thats why I prefer the IWC with the pwer reserve to the Chrono version. (I think thats a 7750 base)

Let me have a go first Mart

That particular speedy, straight lug version is still bloody expensive

    I do love speedys though

    That's Odd Roger,

I have no issues with Breguet quality control... the two I've owned have been exceptionally well put together and finished, as well, if not better than IWCs I've owned.

I'm surprised you found otherwise... had it been pre owned??

Either of the IWC's would definitely be my choice. I'm sorry but the onion crown on steroids on that first one looks just plain silly. I mean that thing is so overdone it's not funny. Wait, actually it is a bit comical.

I love the second IWC. :)

    Doug,

    Main quibble with mine was

!/ The main hour/minute hands were out of alignment, in that it was correct when the indicated time was 10 past the hour.

2/ The chrono pushers were very "stiff" and the reset did not always align the second hand to zero.

Granted the faults rectified by the company, but given the name/reputation, I was a little disappointed.

Big Pilot for me Jon :)

The Portugese 5001 is a beauty too, but I prefer the "ruggedness" of the Pilot...old style of course.

I was fortunate enough to own a Type XX a couple of years ago, it really was superb in finish and the size was fine...should have kept that one!

I would go for the IWC 5001. I had a chance to see some in person at an AD and tried on the Spitfire Mark XV and Portuguese Chrono-Automatic and wow. Great watches. My Dad tried on the 5001 and I looked it over and the movement is cool.

    I like the 5001 a lot.

My second choice would be the Breguet.

It would have been better if you run this thread as a Poll ... I don't like none of them. Keep looking.

Thanks for all the opinions :) I think my favourite is the IWC Portuguese but I will inevitably change my mind :?

and yes, I should have done it as a poll
