    Modern "Retro" Divers

I'm looking to trade my Steiny Ocean One and move on to a more "retro" look.

I'd need at least 200m WR and a Divers Bezel, and would welcome suggestions/contenders please.

I do like the Helso Tartuga but feel it may be a little too big for everyday wear.

I dont have loads of money so would like to stick to an upper limit of £300 really (but of course dont mind buying second users!!)

Must be an Auto by the way.

    Help me out guys :)

Since you like Steinhart, how about the Ocean 1 Vintage Military? Then there's the CWC Divers automatic, or a Timefactors PRS-14.

All 3 have classic 'Def Stan' style dials.

Unfortunately only 100m and no bezel but nevertheless a great vintage look

yep, tried all three of those, and the mighty PRS3 original.

Just thought that there may be some small company that I havent heard of supplying retro divers.

Have you thought about Magrette? The regattare 2011 has classic looks and internal bezel for about £350. Or there's the chrono's - but they are manual winders.

    SEIKO

You should go for a Seiko.
    Best quality money can buy.
Go to Seiya web-site, choose what you like, click, you will have it next week.
    Enjoy it,
    Pedro

You might want to consider Squale.

Squale is not a bad idea.

Here is a vintage on from 1977:

Bit big, but not too fat and smaller than most Helsons. Under £200.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Nice! I can see it's a Orient, but what is the name of the model?

I'm sure this has been done before but the fag packet logo puts me off those.

There are still a few around, used too because the size is borderline daft and a few have found it unwieldy. I don't mind the fag-packet logo, it's cheesy but also quite honest, in a way.

How about a retro looking Seiko skx007 with an after market wjean super oyster bracelet. Well within your price range...

Here is a recent review i came across that prompted me to get that exact combo...

Have you thought about Boschett? The Cave Dweller is superb and great value for money.

    As said before Squale.
You'd be hard to beat them, just put it on a Tropic style strap and you're away. Lovely size and wears very well. Like the Zeno (they have very similar cases).

Surely the Squales are going to be over the £300 budget?,if not where would you buy one?,that limited edition is lovely.

  22. #22
    Neil at Chronomaster sells them;

    http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/squale_watches.htm

But you're right the autos are all well over £300. Although there is 1 auto at £375 (model name "Corallone") and a quartz "1515" at £195 on his site at the mo.

And you have surely had a Seiko 6309. 150m, and it's not modern, but it sure is nice! Mine is not for sale by the way.

How about this? CWC SBS divers watch. The Special Boat Service basically looked at the Royal Navy issue divers watches and said "Does it come in black?". Made to MOD specifications it is descendant from the Omega Seamaster 300 and Rolex Milsub.

I compared both cases when I owned the Zeno, and they were subtly different. Not Identical. Zeno was thicker.
My Squale has a Von Buren case.

All Squales have a VB case. As do many BPs.

Apologies for a) iPhone pics and b) going slightly OT (you won't get a BUND in that price range)

This retro watch is so modern, it's not even available until next month.

Crumbs. I had previously thought Balls were relatively expensive - good to see a decent watch within the OP's £300 limit.
