Thread: Quartz battery replacement

    Quartz battery replacement

    Hi all,

Finally, the battery on my trusty St Moritz has given up. I'd like to retain the water resistance, what's my best option for getting it changed?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Lurch,

Make sure you send or take it to a good guy

Who can change the gaskets pressure test and replace the battery.

    Thanks,

I guess that was my question:

"Anyone know a good guy to do a battery and re-seal?"

I have 34 different sizes of watch battery and invariable find that when I open a quartz watch to change the battery, I don't have the correct one. :(

I can buy all types of new non 3v silver oxide batteries with a good brand name for a £1 on a stall at Bury market. It you take a back off slowly and carefully it should not distort the seal and re-closing shouldn't be a problem. It is easy to buy a mixture of new seals in any case.
I've never had any trouble replacing a battery and maintaining the water resistance integrity. It does help however to have a few basic tools, by which of course I don't mean a bag of hammers and spanners
If anyone prefers to pay anything up to £50 to get this done that is of course a matter for them.
I will admit however that genuine G10's can be a pig to get the back back on as they are very tight indeed, and a special die press is usually needed for this. Slotted screw backs are the easiest to deal with

Seriously I can do the work.

I can do it seriously and even when I am laughing!!!

    .
I am amazed how much some people pay for battery changes ... and the amount of scratching going on. :(

I can understand when the watch concerned is a diver and used in the water a lot ... but really ...
