Utterly gorgeous.
I've fitted a mint Tachy insert to my old Orange Boy.. looks the business.
For those who don't know the ins-and-outs of Autavias, this one is a tad rare.. widely believed to just over a dozen or so known in collectors hands. I'm sure there may be more somewhere, but still, it is a lesser spotted beast.
It's not widely known, but the Heuer orange paint is actually fluorescent, and really comes to life in daylight. I tried to capture this in some quick pics using my laptop screen as a light source, but it didn't work. Oh well!
Utterly gorgeous.
Often thought about an autavia and that one is lovely.
here's mine..
Very nice Jeroen, 11630 I'm guessing?
Just for clarity, not because I'm a pedant, but for the clarity of model identification for tz-ers.. it's not an Orange Boy, but a cracker non-the-less.
That is lovely.
When you get bored of the Tachy bezel I have a NOS MH one for the 1163b if you want to swap!

What are the odds! There is one for sale on a Dutch website. I just spotted it and here you are posting about this watch!
The watch on sale doesn't have the mint bezel though...
That looks really great. Please forgive my ignorance but what makes this so rare , is it just the luminosity of the orange paint ? Giving the name Orange Boy ?
Lovely Lovely...Love the orange.. A classic heuer
IIRC.. It was only ever seen in one catalogue from one year (1972 I think - but don't quote me on that!). So for some reason it was a short lived model. No one really knows why or the ins and outs.
The orange paint across the Autavia range all has a level of luminosity. The name 'Orange Boy' or 'Gulf' as it is also known was just a name given to it by collectors, so it had a moniker that distinguishes it for identification - aka, like 'Double Red' & 'Great White' for the Rolex models. Same goes for other Autavias, like 'Siffert'.
The name 'Orange Boy' gets mis-used a lot, and is incorrectly used for any Autavia with orange accents, this is just something that is down to incorrect information on the web.
Below are a couple of my other Autavias, both have orange in them and are sometimes called 'Orange Boys' but this is incorrect... there is only one true Orange Boy!
Thanks for the info guys , you both have some cracking looking watches there.
i understand now that The Orange Boy is the one with the white sub dials .

Jim

Rick - LOL, snap!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS. How are ya.. you've been quiet lately, you on black ops or something?
My bad. Just looked it up, it's no 'Orange Boy'. It has a white sub dial, but no orange accents!

These things are common as muck!
Wish I had one :(

Lovely pics, Stewart - as usual. I know what you mean about the orange paint: the chrono second and minute hands on my 503.510 are the same and really flouresce brightly in daylight, or the early evening. Really striking, set against a dark dial.
Thanks for sharing this info, i now know what the orange boy is. Got to admit Heuer liked to use some good colours back in the day, and they pulled it off well.
To complicate matters more.. only recently discovered (few months ago) has been a 'reverse orange boy', which is the same as the orange boy, but the dial is white (well, cream) with black registers. I think only two or three have been discovered. More info here: http://www.onthedash.com/Guide/_Chro...3_%28Cream%29/
Handsome watch. The orange luminosity is a great feature!
