    Le Chandelier in East Dulwich.

I used to love having a nosey around the small market on a Saturday with the missus, then treat her to an afternoon tea here:

Their speciality teas with Chrysanthemum flowers that open up in the glass tea pots are amazing.

(and the cakes aren't too bad either!)

    Bettys Harrogate

    http://www.bettys.co.uk/bettys_harrogate.aspx

The story of Bettys began in Harrogate in 1919 and we’ve been welcoming locals and visitors to our café tea rooms ever since. Before you enter, it’s worth checking your wallet under the wrought iron canopy to see if your eyes are not kidding you at the jaw dropping prices for a cuppa T and miniscule piece of cake!. Once inside the shop you’ll be robbed of even more cash for the choice 300 breads, cakes and chocolates, as well as 50 different teas and coffees.

I always used to enjoy a cup of tea in the afternoon in the abbey gardens in Bury St.Edmunds, Suffolk. Lovely town, or it used to be, i haven't been back there for a few years. Both my kids born in Bury, we thoroughly enjoyed our time living there. Some nice cafe's to, but there is no beating drinking your own flask of stewed tea whilst watching life go by on a summers afternoon in the abbey.

went to a wedding reception here a couple of weeks back. The couple had hired out the place for a hog roast reception on a Friday evening. Very nice it was too.

The wife swears by The Ritz for afternoon tea

I've been for tea at the ritz and its actually quite disappointing. Good range of teas but sandwiches and cakes were meh.
For a really good high tea, I recommend the Connaught and the Lanesborough. Not cheap though- remember its a full meal.

+1 for The Lanesborough. If you're in Hyde Park Corner, I can also recommend The Halkin (which is only a few hundred yards away).

    But Grantchester! ah, Grantchester!
There's peace and holy quiet there...

...Stands the Church clock at ten to three?
And is there honey still for tea?

I've been there, before setting off for a riverside walk, and it was a great place indeed.

Betty's in York seem to be ridiculously popular with foreign tourist. Rain or shine every weekend there's a long queue outside.

Best Afternoon Tea in the UK

I have always enjoyed The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh - Earl Grey, in a silver teapot, served by proper waiters/waitresses, with freshly baked Scottish shortbread (provided free of charge) in a very serene and relaxing environment.
