    I'm sometimes offered unusual movements

I've made a few posts before mentioning new old stock movements and discussing possibilities for them. I've been offered a few movements this week and suggestions for how they could be used. I like some of these but it's unlikely they will see the light of day, they're not available in sufficient quantity to make them viable.

I like the idea of number 3, minus the jaggy red hand.

I like the idea of kits, too.

    I'm sometimes offered unusual movements

What about having a blank case made without holes for the buttons and having a simple jig made to allow the correct number of holes to be drilled in the correct positions depending on which movement you're going to put in it?

Like No 2 and No 3.
Kits are a great idea, as long as you put them together for us.

Very much like 1 & 2 not so sure about 3 but that could be the red lightning flash.

Number 1 and number 3 please. I really like the look of those cases very JLC.

    I'm sometimes offered unusual movements

Not sure jlc would be too pleased with number 2 but the members here would

The idea of the pennant markers was actually taken from the old Omega Ranchero, JLC don't have a monopoly on them.

The chrono would be very nice

Is the movement something (manual edit. there seems to be word automatic on dial :) from valjoux or even something more interesting?

Number 3 is a mechanical alarm using the AS5008.

It's not very often that three designs will all grab me in one go but they all do - and then some. The idea of all, but especially 2 and 3, are really exiting prospects. I hope you can make them viable options.

Oh, ah, my God, why do you show us these knowing that they will not see the light of the day? That is cruel even for your standards! I think number three is just great!!!!

They all look great! Number 2 is my favourite.

It would be great if one of these designs saw the light of day.

The chrono in the middle looks stunning.
If it was offered with the option of a 60 minute or 12 hour bezel (or if both were provided) I think you would sell lots... well... at least one

I'd put my money down right now for number 3.

  18. #18
Come on Eddie make number 3 at the very least, a mechanical alarm carrying the Smiths masthead would be an essential purchase.

  19. #19
And I suspect I'd be prepared to pay silly money for it, especially when one considers how much a Deep sea alarm costs.

Please make number 3 if it has to be a choice. I'd be in the market for one.

3 does look especially good, although I too would perhaps opt for a plainer alarm hand.

The AS 5008 is a very cool possible. Alarm, date, auto. Great stuff. I know 2 people who would buy one straight off.

My vote would be for # 1 and then #2
Love the simply layout of #1 but to bad this will only be eye candy.

  28. #28
As number 1 doesn't seem to have any special complications (other than date) surely this could be brought to life with a movement TF already use , such as the Miyota from the PRS 25.

They all look really cool! I like now. 1 & 2 best.

Is the kit idea anywhere close to a reality?

I'd be very interested in any of the three, and numbers 2 and 3 especially.

What's the significance of the NOS movements though: could you not make these with ones that are currently available?

Not fussed about the chrono, but I'd cheerfully buy either of the other two. Nice designs.

I would buy number three in a flash. Please will you put me down for one? 40 to 42mm case, bracelet, please.

I wouldn't want it made in Switzerland though!

Since number three has an alarm and the hand for it is a lightning bolt, does that mean instead of a bell or buzz you get an electric shock?

    Strictly Watches

    #2 definitely, #3 possibly.

  39. #39
all 3 look fine to me, i'd also be interested in the alarm one in the compressor case :)

  40. #40

    Cool

I like the alarm one Eddie, something reminiscent of the old Oris version - I reckon it would sell well....I'd buy one!

Even without 'unusual movements' 1 and 2 look easily doable, and also look very handsome indeed - I'd buy one or both with a Seagull movement provided they weren't the size of a clay pigeon, i.e. bigger than 40mm.

    Oh yes. Please. Please. Please.

(And keep the jagged hand, it's very unusual).

Simon has perfectly summed up my thoughts on Eddie's examples. I'd be most interested in #2 although they all look most attractive.

What movement would be powering 2? I just wonder if and LE would be possible with the modern Chinese equivalent following on in the same case and configuration?

All three look good to me.

Just out of curiosity, how many of those NOS movements would make a project like that viable?

I have to take 300 cases minimum and there aren't enough movements to make 300 watches.

    Fair enough.

Those are good though, it'd be a shame if they never materiaised. Miyota 9015 for the first one, Seagull ST-19 for the chrono?

  50. #50
Modern mechanical alarm? easy choice for me.

I assume with the others there could be an LE version using the movements we have and then a generic version using a miyota or other movement. Do Miyota or Seagull do a mechanical alarm though or at least one within a reach-able price point?
