    Eddie,
That is exactly how I see it being divorced with an 8 year old boy. But since completing my colour service I have considered looking for work back in the region. Good healthy life style, educational adventures, good diving and possible pop star wages. But at the moment its rain, cold and watch porn for me :)

Moving to Dubai is something I have begun to consider recently, could anybody who has done this suggest any recruitment companies or web-sites that advertise positions?

Can we clarify if we mean watching porn or watches that are pure porn!

think it'll depend where you are, I'd assume you're not going to be stuck in the middle of a busy town surrounded by locals. most people will move somewhere with some sort of ex pat population & as a result I'd imagine the locals would be more tolerant

my girlfriends brother's just been offered a relocation. he works in the aviation industry, 22, no ties, a tidy wage & living in abu dhabi. doing alright for himself !

It would be working in the capital in the municipal offices.

    Hi Martyn,

    late comer to this thread.

I have lived in Jeddha Saudi Arabia between 1985-1988. Was a young teenager and went to French school.
Life was good back then although a little restrictive as some have mentioned.
ALL expatriate would make their own wine / beer at home.
I had decent education and spent all afternoons playing tennis and being outdoors.
Every weekend at the beach windsurfing and diving in the Red Sea. Was awesome.

I have been on holiday to Abu Dhabi / Dubai every year in the past 5 years. Check the Emirates Palace Hotel. Completely nuts...

The former is the better place in my view.

Nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. You can drink in hotels and restaurants and at home no problem.

Great quality of life and you get massive help if you have young children.

Some good friends live there and they are happy.

I would personally go there (Abu Dhabi) if given the opportunity and in the right conditions.

Not in Saudi though. I had an interview in Rhyad in 2005 and it was not very appealing.

Summer WAY TOO HOT to stay there though...

    Cheers,
    Eric.

Taffytoon, you can simplify this whole process with gut instinct. Go with your gut and you won't go wrong....

If you really want to be at home then stay at home. But if deep down you are craving a bit of adventure and excitement then you know what you need to do.

Nothing wrong with gaining from others experiences, sometimes gut feelings are not enough.

For every person who has taken the jump and moved abroad and been happy, there is someone else who hated it and moved back. You won't really know until you make the move.

Maybe a holiday out there first, may help you decide.

Anyway good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I'm off to Dubai next month for a 28/28 rotation so this thread has been a cracking read.
