Not to worry.
I was made redundant just before xmas.
38 years old.
Lots of opportunities for people with the right attitude..

Unlike back in June 2011 when I took voluntary redundancy after 13 years with DHL I took a position with a small firm back in August of the same year.
When I started they were going through a tough time and despite constant peaks and troughs throughout the 18 months I have been there the Boss has decided that it is time to close up shop.
This has been on the cards for some time now, earlier in the year another member of staff was layer off to save costs and the boss spent 12 months contacting. Although earning approx £12-£14k a month for the business it all this managed to do was keep the wolves from the door for a little longer.
So tomorrow is my last day in the office. Im not entirely sure what I will be doing as Friday afternoon we never answered the phones.
Oh how I would love to be in a position to say I will retire early thats not going to happen (Im only 43) so will have to look for something new.
Cheers,
Ben

Sorry to hear that Ben as has been said people who can and want to work will find something wish you luck mate.
Unlucky mate, remind to buy you one next time we come along to a SWHES meet.
Very sorry to hear this Ben.
Early retirement is overrated (Im told...). Youre scarcely halfway through what the young people term a portfolio career : just another chunk of experience to notch up. After I got made redundant for the 3rd time in 3 years I managed to end up working back at my original employer. It was at that point that I resolved to become self employed. Took a while, but worth it.
Good luck with the next few weeks. We're all rooting for you.
David
Sorry to hear that.......you've changed jobs beore, you'll do it again.....hope you get something quick.
Bugger! Sorry to read this mate and all the best with finding a new job.
Cheers,
Gary

Having been there,I wish you well in finding something.

Sorry to hear that Ben. Good luck finding something new and quickly.
Sorry to hear that Ben. been served with section 188 notices (twice in two years and called them restructures).
Luckily, both times I have managed to keep my job, allbeit with reduced terms and conditions.
It must be grim for you at the moment, but there will be something out there for you and I hope you find it soon.

Ben

Sorry to hear this Ben. Must make all the petty squabbling on here this weekend seem even more pathetic. Keep your chin up, there will be something round the corner and it may well be a damn sight better than what came before. :)
good luck, hope things work out, you never know what's round the corner
All the best with finding a new job.
Sorry to hear this Ben.
I know with your attitude you won't be out of work long.
All the best.
Cheers,
Neil.
I'm sorry to hear this. I hope that you get a new and better job soon!
Best wishes,
Bob
I know it's different from when you left DHL but you'll find something else. Just get your head down and start the process off, you know what you need to do.
Sorry to hear your plight, but as one door shuts another opens...good luck for the future
I've always believed that things happen for a reason so I've never worried about the future and things have always turned out ok, even if not the way I'd originally planned.
Hopefully the same will be true for you. Good luck in whichever way life takes you.
Good luck, as others have said attitude and networking is the key everyone you know, as that's where you best opportunities lie
So sorry to hear this mate. Hope you find something very soon.
All the best
Mark
Sorry to hear that Ben. I was served with redundancy in 2001 (when I decided to stay on with the company and move with them) and then again in 2010 (when I decided not to move with them and took redundancy). I now look back and am thankful that I was forced to take redundancy in 2010 - it meant that I moved to a better job, which I would not have done of my own choosing. So, it can be a good thing. I hope it works out this way in your case too. Best of luck!
Sorry to hear this Ben, hope you find something else soon, good luck.
Sad news, sorry to hear of your situation.
As per others, keep your attitude right and you'll get something sorted pretty quickly.
You know what they say Ben, As one door closes another opens........good luck in the search.
Sorry to hear about this. I was made redundant for the second time in my so called career last summer. Got a whole heap of helpful advice and well wishes from this forum so so it is a good place to voice concerns or questions. Best bits of advice I have are make a financial plan so you know who you are going to progress short term, as it is all too easy to fixate on money and feel you don't have control anymore which is very stressfull. Also remember that the people around you, family, friends are the mosty importan thing and as long as you keep them close and then when things turn a corner you can all go on to enjoy your sucessful future together.
Good luck,
Ed
Sorry to hear that, maybe as one door closes another will open for you :)
Sorry to hear mate, you were on the sales side I assume ??
Sorry to hear that Ben and I hope that everything works out ok for you.
Well, I sincerely hope it will turn for good sooner rather than later, in the meantime hold fast!
The feeling is an awful one, but you have to hang in there mate.
Just be optimistic and calm. There's a good job waiting for you out there :-)
Alex
Best of luck, Ben. Fingers crossed for you.
In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
have been in the same boat it's not a nice feeling happened to me 4years ago at the time it was happening it was as though my whole world was falling apart but I stayed positive and managed to find a new job just 3 weeks later , my advice Stay Positive and Good Luck
Sorry to hear this Ben. Being made redundant is worse than being fired. I have been fired and been made redundant, being made redundant was worse because when I was fired, I know that I was useless at my job and they had every right to fire me. I accepted my dismissal without a fight. It was in no way unfair, I had plenty of warnings. I was a salesman and I was a crap one at that. Forever missing sales targets and poorly motivated etc.
When I was made redundant that was much worse for me as I was good at the job (worked my way into IT and was an IT consultant). If you have it in you, you will come through good. I set up on my own in 2000, aged 35 with very little capital. At the time I thoguht it would be a stop gap unitl another job came along, but things took off with a full time effort and I have never looked back. Something will turn up, whether that is a new job or your own business. With the former, its banging on every single door that you pass until somebody lets you in, or the latter, you just have to find your niche, no matter how small that niche may be. Best wishes
Sorry to hear your news Ben. Be strong, make plans and perhaps pretty soon you'll find yourself in a much better place than you have been the past 18 months.
Rooting for ya!
Sorry to hear this Ben - just picked the thread up.
All the best mate & good hunting for a new job.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Sorry Ben.
It's a pretty tough world out there, especially the UK .
You'll be tougher and overcome this short term set back.
Maybe self employment is an option.
Think about what your skills are and what you would like to .
Best of luck.
Darren
Sorry to hear this, Ben, having met you I have no doubt that good things will come and opportunities will present themselves. Will catch you at a swhes when I get myself in gear
Best regards
Chris
Fingers crossed - sorry to hear this but I'm sure an opportunity will come your way through persistence.
Good luck and best wishes.
Same happened to me back in July, I've had two jobs since then and neither of them were any good.
Something better will turn up, it's just very unsettling, chin up mate your not alone.
Thanks for all your kind words and support.
Well I went in today and was asked if I would stay on for a couple of days just to help sort the finalising of the accounts, tying up the stock values etc etc.
I have spent most of the day flogging off the stock for barely cost just to boost the accounts a little as every penny counts.
Cheers,
Ben

Good luck Ben, I am in the exact same possition. I have sent off 3 CVs and have 3 interviews lined up( first one on Wednesday). What is it you did?

Sorry for your news. It can be a worrying time, but stay focused and something will be around the corner. I am currently on a section 188 awaiting final details. Scary at 54. But looking about and trying to be positive.
