Thread: Bikes?

  1. #51

    Re: Bikes?

No pics available but I currently ride an '07 model Trek Fuel EX8 - and it has done me proud!

It is due for it's next decent outing in Afan in May (I live on the Isle of Wight so it gets some good use over here to).

As I can't work due to ill health, I build bikes when I can to give me focus and something to do :?

    Scott Spark, custom lightweight build....

    Some 'retro' builds...

    Kona King Kahuna

Diamond back Racing Axis Team Titanium....

    Kona Explosif....

The next project, Fat Chance Yo Eddy....

Sold to mate, Santa Cruz Heckler Superlight...

    Cheers

    Re: Bikes?

    Some nice kit there.

Like the Alps tourer. Not a brand I'm aware of but looks tidy. The Yo is always a winner, esp since it's a Mass built frame.

As for the lower aero position on modern road bikes it is due to the desire for improved aerodynamics and because it is the de-rigeur thing in the pro-peleton rather than being driven by sports science. When Specialized started to sponser Bjarne Riis' team (forget whether CSC or Saxo bank at the time) and analysed some of their positions many of the rider's ended up raising their bars.

This could do with a bump. This Moulton lived in London for a bit but is now getting much more use over here.

I need to get round to sticking SPDs back on it and will eventually get round to putting a SON in the front wheel.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

One of the Race machines thats been raced at Herne Hill on a few occasions (as well as Newport & Manchester )

    3 in the shed

I currently have 3 and need to get some pics.

A genesis equilibrium which I used to commute with last summer and will hopefully start again in a few months. I must confess I am not too enamoured with the bum up, hand down position and have opted to fit it with a high rise stem.

A tern c7 folder, again for commuting when I get too tired to cycle home and back. Its also the bike to use with the kids.

finally a boardman mtb pro, 2010, which has seen all of about 100 miles and just dont use it. Partly because I hate getting covered in mud and last year was very muddy.

Well, I've got a few... The ones I ride most are these today, but I swap them for new ones quite often.

Anyone guess the brand I work with?-)

Yes, it is. It's my third Di2-bike, the two prior to this one were with dura-ace. Wouldn't change back to mechanical, for me these have worked perfectly. Just had a week of riding in the Gran Canaria with that one. ;)

Nice, I was comtemplating putting Di2 on the Moulton but I think it will be an overkill for a small wheel bike and would look ridiculous!

Here's my Madone commuter. Nothing fancy but she does London to Brighton on 600ml H2O and we like looking for hills to go up together.

I need to take the time to get some decent photos of mine... but here they are all the same.

Sunday best (although I've now ditched the white tape and saddle and it's all black)

TT machine (now with the stem flipped back to a more respectable height)

    Mountain

I'll add my winter / Cyclocross bike in when I get round to taking a photo - it's filthy at the moment after a race the other weekend and really needs some love and attention before putting it in front of the camera!

I do restore and "build" bikes myself, though

And one for the wife too

Got some racers, commuters and mountain bikes too, but these get more use :)

    ^ beautiful !

Just swapped the bars on my bike ( earlier in this thread ) from Albatross style back to drops ( Nitto Randoneur ) and I'm enjoying the change, but my back and neck miss the higher bars

Some nice bikes around these parts. Here are three out of the nine I've currently got.

Rose X-Lite with sram red and Mavic R-SYS SLR

Santa Cruz Nomad carbon with XTR

Hipster sled for cruising about when I can escape from work

My Sintesi, built from scratch - pre bike fit, it's now got carbon seat post and stem:

My Reef, also built from scratch, doesn't get out much though and now has the rear disc wheel replaced with a Spin as per the front and the bars are now Vision and the saddle's changed (so time for some new pics really :) .

Titanium this and carbon that but you can't beat a bit of 1980's Birmingham steel.

My commuter bike is this '90 vintage, Japanese-built Bianchi Volpe cyclocross/tourer with Tange steel tubing. I've made lots of changes to it since I got it about two years ago and it has been a fun project. I like to use a mix of paved roads and trails on my commute to/from work so this bike is pretty well suited:

My favorite ride is still this '95 Trek carbon frame. Carbon may ubiquitous today but at that time it was pretty unique. Regardless of the material I love the feel of this frame/fork:

My Cotic BFe, really fun bike, bomb proof, handles brilliantly yet relatively docile on the climbs/longer riding. Thinking about buying a Cotic Rocket at some point too.

Not really of the bike but my trusty old 2001 Marin Attack Trail sees lots of action still. Anglesey last week.

More recent one of my Cotic, added a Reverb post to it which has made the world of difference. Can really hack it downhill now Now out of action for a few months though after ankle surgery yesterday and feeling miserable I can't get out

I like the Pashley Guv'nor, very nice. I cycle every day, I rode Bilbao - Malaga last June and will do Santander - Lisbon next June, I do big tours to coincide with either the Euros or the World Cup, everybody is happy and the bars are full enabling me to indulge in another favourite hobby of mine.

I was let loose on this on Sunday, all assumptions will be wrong, it is easy to pedal, comfy, stable and, believe it or not, agile, the rear tyre only has a small contact patch. Coolio!

Hi guys, no picture of my bike for a couple of days as its in a transit van at the minute on route to a charity bike ride.... There's seven of us from Severn Trent Water riding the rivers Severn and Trent from source to estuary over the next four days. Just over 420 miles on the map.

We're starting near to Newtown in mid Wales tomorrow morning and planning on getting to Bridgnorth for tomorrow evening. Then Bridgnorth to the Severn Bridge at Bristol on Friday. Long drive up to just north of Stoke on Trent to get to the source of the Trent for Saturday morning, then cycling to Nottingham by the evening. Final day is Nottingham to the Humber Bridge at Hull by Sunday evening.

I'll post some photos on route!

All in aid of Wateraid. I've not publicised this on TZUK this time as many of you guys were very generous when I did a charity Coast to Coast for the Alzheimer's Society a couple of years ago.
