    Hi! New member......

    Hey All,

Been lurking a while, thought I best introduce myself...

I've been developing an interest in watches for the past 18 months or so. I got married in 2011 and my generous wife wanted to get me a 'nice' watch as a wedding present. I did a bit of research and stumbled upon Christopher Ward watches; I was looking for a classic looking dress watch and ended up choosing a C5 Malvern and as they are such good value I picked up a C5 Aviator as well :)

I understand CW isn't held in the greatest regard on here but I'm really happy with both of them - automatic, display backs, classic look, British company, good size for my spindly wrists - all for £250 each.

Typically an appreciation for watches (escpecially mechanical) was sparked and I've been learning lots since.

I picked up a Gshock for a bit of cheap fun, fixed up my old beater mwc and dug out my old seiko 5 that my Dad gave me (never wear it though!).

I'm researching my next purchase now, had my first child last year and figure that's a good enough reason to justify a new watch to the wife :) Leaning
heavily towards a Speedy Pro, I'm quite into Sci-fi and all things space so the history of the speedy really appeals. Love it's simple, clean look too!!

Quick and dirty pic of my meagre collection!

    Cheers

    Jeeves

    Welcome from Holland.

This hobby can be enjoyed in every price range, doesn't have to be expensive to have fun.

I reckon the Speedmaster's pretty close to the perfect watch.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Trying to learn not to dive too deeply into new hobbies these days so I'm in no rush to buy my next watch. The fun is in the researching and developing my knowledge as far as I'm concerned!

Saying all that it wouldn't surprise me to see some of those spaces fill before too long ;)

    Cheers

Hi Jeeves, Nice budding collection you have.

My advice is never post beyond 49 posts* otherwise your wallet will be forever empty :)

(* you need 50 posts + a few months under your belt to get access to the sales corner)

Cheers, amazing how many forums come with a 'leave your wallet at the door' type warning! Will keep it in mind!

I don't think it's required to leave your wallet behind before entering.
    :-)
But, there are some exquiste pieces of engineering/art/jewelry out there.
Great fun and hugely enjoyable hobby.

Cheers! Read a few of Heinlein's - Moon is a harsh mistress and Space Family Stone which I enjoyed. Best I've read of his though is Stranger in a Strange Land, pretty amazing stuff (even spawned a religion in real life!)

Gone a bit of topic here!

    Welcome to the forums.

Interest in watches and watch collecting doesn't have to be all about Rolex, Omega and the like.

Collect what you like and can afford and above all enjoy your hobby while getting pleasure from your watches.

I find that I can enjoy the watch I choose to wear every day.

Welcome to the forum . If I were you I'd ditch the MWC (and get the Seiko 5 spruced up) however your interest in a Speedie suggests that you're tastes a developing nicely. As a matter of interest, are you a mini-driving butler and have you met Wooster yet (he's a member here)?

Haven't got round to reading starship troopers, cheesy film put me off, which it shouldn't as films are rarely as good as the books they are based on..

Totally agree with all that, interest in the Speedy isn't just because it's an Omega, plenty of other reasons for that. To be honest I've had the funds available for ages, I'm just enjoying taking my time researching potential purchases. It's driving my wife crazy - 'just buy the bloody thing!'

:) The MWC is handy for when I'm decorating/working in the garage etc! Might do something with the Seiko 5, not sure I could pull off a gold watch though! My first car was a mini, loved it! (Which Butler drives a mini though?) Not met Wooster yet

Welcome Jeeves. You can't beat a bit of Asimov for a classic fix of Sci-fi.
