Traditional working class.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22000973
I am "established middle class" apparently. Never really thought of myself as such but there you go.
It's nonsense! I came out as in the "Elite" class! I drive a Skoda and wear a Seiko - how can I be in the Elite!?
Glad to see I'm finally being seen as one of the elite...
Hmmm - very strange. I do not see how I come out as Elite. I am a snob about some things - in that I don't like Christopher Ward watches but come on!
It's just a matter of time...
established middle class... me & 25% of the UK apparently.
I'm technical middle class, apparently (which seems to be defined as a Chav with a reasonable income, as far as I can tell).
I'm not sure where the accurate information comes from for the raw data.
But I assume they have made some basic errors.
for example:
The average age of the working class population is 66-years old.
Ooooops.
Maybe the survey was conducted on the street, when the working classes were busy at work.
It kinda spoils the whole excercise if the results are skewed towards the retired population and the unemployed.
Traditional working class
Percentage of population 14%
Average age 66
Technical middle class as well here.
You would think that "Elite" would be reserved for those who didn't have to buy all their own furniture.
This is about social class so aren´t you guys forgetting the importance of the ´class´ of people you have ticked associating with?!
Most of the rest is basically statistical data mining; I did not fill in when I had seen all the questions.
Established middle, must get talking to the riff raff more.
Upper uber-lord it would seem. Now where's my man with that roast swan?
Elite. But I'm not sure if it counts when you don't live in the UK any longer?
I was let down badly because I've socialised with Foxy and Village.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
established middle class*
pretty accurate i would say because:
-i think dick and fart jokes are funny
-i read the sport
-i like to drink until i puke and then have been known to drink that too.
Elite. However, I get the feeling that being "Elite" means not doing on-line tests to determinate class. Which would mean I've failed already. Or ... ?
On the other hand, I'm not British -
What a total crock of crap. All you have to do is answer over 100K income in the first question, don't answer any others and it comes up with elite.
Highly scientific.
Apparently I'm Elite ???
This is the wealthiest and most privileged group in the UK. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:
- Enjoy high cultural activities such as visiting museums and listening to classical music
- Went to private school and elite universities
- Socialise with people who do a wide variety of jobs
What a load of baloney, I...
- Enjoy all sorts of music - none more meritorious than the others & kids put paid to any 'cultural activities'
- Went to a Salford Comprehensive then worked with day release - then on to (good) universities
- Socialise with all sorts of people (regardless of their job)
Elite ? - must be a slow day at the BBC news office
z
Definitely tripe. I'm from a single parent free school meals hand me down clothes mum cuts your hair family and yet now apparently I am one of the Elite. Piffle, I'll have my people make sure the publisher of this nonsense never works again.
I am heir to the 14th Marquis of Quimsworth. And I am working class.
Technical middle class here...
Thank God I'm Elite and I don't use Facebook, but I'm from S Yorkshire, can't be possible
what a load of cock - well at least it's taken dozens of people off Welfare!
(just done it again - I'm now Established Middle Class - but when I "worked" I was Elite ....... so retirement means you drop down a rung, or two)

I'm Established middle class. Therefor my next car shall be a Volvo and my next child shall be named Arabella or Freddie.
Now I better let my boss know I'm now middle class and need paying accordingly. School fees will be due when the little one's old enough to go.
Goodness
A quick scan of the posts suggests it may be possible the majority of the 6% of the population deemed 'elite' are members of this forum
Once confirmed, at least it may be simpler for marketers to reach their target demographic
All this puts me in mind of www.youtube.com/watch?v=mURhNIjc-Kw

Apparently I'm Elite. What a load of rubbish!
Technical middle class. I admitted to knowing a university lecturer, which apparently marks me down.
I do miss Griff... ;-)

Ignorance breeds Fear. Fear breeds Hatred. Hatred breeds Ignorance. Break the chain.
Where was 'engineer' in the list of skilled occupations?
Err, not really, it's just a truly terrible and useless calculation that should embarrass the two academics involved. I'm a 'social scientist' in a UK University and there are so many flaws in this that it's a truly classic example of "bad [social] science". If one of our postgrads produced a survey and model like this they wouldn't be allowed to submit it as it was silly, contradictory and most of all ignorant of the literature.
Put it this way, whatever people might think of Marx these days, he had one important insight; the question of class is really the question of power and (to be a bit simplistic) to witter on about whether you use Facebook or go to the opera is irrelevant.
IN short...it's all B*ll**KS.
Stupid. My brothers an artist and I work in IT. As a result we're totally different classes?
Great British Class Obsession, I think is nearer the mark ;).
It seems to be about income and who you mix with. I remember being lectured by an Australian man once on the merits of their classless system; he was a consultant on a very comfortable salary, married to a lawyer with three children at private school who mixed exclusively with other consultants, lawyers and similar professionals, either through work or via his children's school. No plumbers, pharmacists, social workers, nurses, binmen, secretaries, store clerks or footballers!
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
This test is a load of b*llocks. Its very heavily influenced by home ownership, earnings and savings, which in reality doesn't count for much when it comes to class.
Are you saying my Volcano island and monorail count for nothing? Right, they're going back to Cash convertors and I'm not making the next monthly to Wonga.com. Sod the lot of you upper class toffs. And lower class chavs. And all those in between in the interests of forum equality.
I was elite, then got an IP recognition of my U.S. based IP address and it bumped me back to middle class.
What a load of old rubbish.
Technical middle class? Me?
I guess as was mentioned earlier it just means commoner with a few bob!
Cheers,
Neil.
It's not really class, but deciding whether you were in the 'squeezed middle' was always more fun with this ;)

I'm apparently elite, I've been elite before having spent too much of my childhood playing the game, i would have thought that would have ruled me out from being elite
maybe i should get my butler to type my posts from now on
oh wait i need to get a butler first, maybe i could get a cheap homage to see if i like having a butler before splashing out
