If the physio isn't working then see if you can find a recommended Osteopath - different approach to a physio and it works for me.
Could also be stress related in which case also go for a couple of nice massages to see if that helps as well.
I'm off to the Doctors this morning as I've an infected toe due to an in growing toe nail common amongst us monoped's.
While I'm there I shall ask if there's anything better for my neck ache than Ibuprofen. I've been suffering a stiff neck for about 6 months. I've been having physio every other week and taking Ibuprofen but its just won't go? I've tried heat patches, cold and hot gels...anyone else had to deal with this?
Cheers
Paul

I had awful neck problems for ages until I splashed out on a new pillow. Sounds daft but made mine so much better. After reading the reviews I went for one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003J372NS/
It's a bit weird at first as it has a little bladder that you fill with water but after a bit of tweaking to get the right amount it's like nothing else. 35 quid for a pillow seems ridiculous but by crikey was it worth it. When I was looking around there were also lots of positive comments about getting just a high quality down pillow so you can mould it to support your shoulders. Depends how you sleep though.
Medication-wise I think that's about it, although my mother swears by a wheat-filled cushion that she microwaves for a minute then rests across her shoulders.
Good luck!
Massage by a 18yo Asian girl? Make sure you get a girl...Anything better than Ibuprofen for neck ache?
A stiff neck?
Maybe you have a Viagra pill stuck in your throat?
Try ibuprofen gel.

i have suffered from neckache and headaches for years, i was treated for clusters migraines, muscle spasm in the shoulders and upper back, after over 20 years suffering the experts relented and i had an xray, ostio arthritis, i am not so bad now as i am being treated for something i have not what them feckin idiots though i had, the same thing with the loweer back, i was being told that i had no injurys on my lower back apart from a couple of prolapsed discs, when i was sent to a private hospital for treatment it was discovered that i had two bones broken on either side of my lower spine, so get an xray done, if you are not happy get a second one done, if i had been treated properly in time i may now be able to walk and work, not sit and suffer.
+1 for finding a decent osteopath.
My wife's an osteopath so I confess that I am biased, but I do know that she sees and fixes a lot of clients with the sort of symptoms you are describing - often where there is an underlying cause to the problem which may not be apparent to a physio.
voltarol gel is quite good too
The ibruprofen/voltarol etc gels are all very well but they only mask the problem and can,in the long term, possibly end up doing you more harm than good as you continue to ignore the underlying problem.
Have you had your blood pressure checked?. If not it might be a good idea to have it monitored over a period of time.
If it's high, you might find your neck and head pain could be related to this issue, and is easily controlled.

That could be said for any painkiller, so your argument against the gels doesn't really hold water.
Ibuprofen is well known for reducing swelling as well as killing the pain, so it can and will be part of the overall solution to curing the problem.
But yes, the OP also needs to look into what may be any underlying problem. From my experience, the stiff neck could well be connected to the infected toe, I have had infections that have caused havoc with my lymph node system, as its this that fights the infection, causing pain all over the body in completely unrelated places. So a course of antibiotics may be a good idea as well as more localised pain relief.

Yes & yes it does. I only refered to gels as that is what had been mentioned. I could just as easily have said 'painkillers'.
Note i said 'can' and 'possibly' in my comments. Yes,ibruprofen can be part of the overall solution...it won't neccessarily 'will' be. The point is if taking painkillers is masking the root cause and that masking causes you to 'do things' that excacerbate the condition, then it is adding to the problem.
Exactly.
bit of experience here.... what I find works best and is the least messy is:
1) Ibuleve Spray - spray on, massage in, no residue/mess - most days
2) 400mg Ibuprofen tabs when it gets really bad
3) Wheat bag in the microwave and pop it on (one of these) whenever you like

If you have neck pains, it is usually not the neck that is the center of your problem, so a Osteopath will properly help you much faster than a physio.
I've stopped dragging time before visiting "my" Osteopath, since she usually solve my aches with only one treatment (Well spend £40!!)!

Do you have a desk job? And use a computer?
It might be that you need adjust your sitting position, height of the table etc. I've had the same problems but since I've changed to a standing desk (or whatever they're called) my neck pain went away.
YMMV.

Varifocal specs when using the pc can also give you a pain in the neck, as can using a standard mouse.

If you need short-term relief from pain, voltarol is ibuprofen squared.
Use sparingly.
My ex is an osteopath she recomended that I go to a physio, then she ended our marriage? Am I reading to much into this??
I agree with much of the above and really should have my desk situation at work sorted, looks like this is stress related which will be hard to sort at the moment.
Valium, or its modern acceptable prescription name, diazepam works for me.
It's just a matter of time...
They gave my wife a Valium for a severe muscle spasm in her neck. Really helped.
I didn't realise there were so many clinically trained people on here.
First of all get a diary and log every ache, pain, and other than normal sensation you experience over a month period. Once documented fully get to the doctors and present him/her with the facts.
Do not piss about with your health.
I was sent to a consultant in 2003 and what I thought was a minor complaint turned into me being quickly taken into hospital with a serious neck problem, that was operated on and I now have a carbon fibre disc fitted.
Since I have played a few seasons of rugby and this after being told I could of been wheelchair bound due to the condition I did not know I had?
Regards.

http://health.howstuffworks.com/medi...uestion706.htm the only way to go
If you have good health insurance most private hospitals have a pain man,
Show caution with Ibuprofen, a mate of mine was using them too frequently and ended up almost killing himself as his stomach lining raptured !
Is now a shadow of himself as a result !
I do know in Norway, desk job employees are often offered a 'stand up' solution to alleviate back/spinal problems and it seems to have worked.
Good luck
Peter
Any bone/muscle pain. I just hit it with Diclofenac. Sorted.
