Been offered a 1957 lambretta for my emergency!

Funny what you get offered for a watch....
I'm selling my emergency orbiter 3 and a lad I know has offered me a 1957 Italian fully restored lambretta for it...
I was after one before I had my back accident, now I'd love the lambretta but my back would not allow me to ride it....
    Quiet gutted really.
Put a pic up of the lambretta what do you think...
    Would you or wouldn't you?

If I was in the market for a scooter I'd be very tempted - it looks great.

ironic , because when you break down on the lambretta , an emergency will be exactly what you need .
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

i think it depends on if you want to ride a scooter, if so then do it, you can always buy a $50 to tell the time!

If that's the actual scooter (lovely by the way) then it can't be from 1957 on an 'A' suffix. The 'A' was (obviously) the first of the suffix plates but, was not around for a full year - it was introduced in Feb 63 and ran until Dec 31st of that year (the change to August registrations happened a little later). As you can't fix a plate to a vehicle that was registered before the plate (to potentially make a vehicle look newer), the scooter can be no older than Feb 63. I still say 'go for it' though.

    Old LD isn't it?

I'd swap it for a soppy watch any day of the week if I was after a scooter.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

The breitling emergency was traded for a rolex gmt in the end, although the scooter looked nice etc I too questioned the reg plate etc and wasn't sure so I didn't peruse it

Someone has sold the original "non dating" number plate and the DVLA have reissued the bike with an A plate. This was normal pre 1985ish so i wouldn't be worried. I had a 1958 sunbeam with an A reg.

If it was done nowdays they'd re-issue a non dating non transferable number to match the age of the vehicle.

Ah, OK. Many thanks for the info. I was under the impression that the current ruling had always been in place (it certainly has been since the 70s/80s and seems to make sense). You learn something every day.

Quite rare the LD. Beautiful shape, although shaft drive engine limits any performance enhancing like the later models so top speed only around 45mph.

Brings back memories of my old scooter in Australia. No pics but a dull green and as basic as they come. 45mph on that one would have had me shaking in my boots.

I would have ditched the flags, but gee whiz they are nice looking scoots ~ both the one offered to you and the coke-retta in the thread!
