    Fiddling with cheapo Sekonda watches

These are cheap enough to take a punt at and see if I can get on with a larger sports watch than I initially had in mind...

    I quite fancy the 3011: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sekonda-Yout...pr_product_top

BUT with the bracelet from the 3012: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sekonda-Kids...GPK/ref=sr_1_2

....and if I got them, I suppose I could try to sell on the blue face with the black rubber straps - but would that look terrible?

Anyone else found any interesting cheapo watches?

The Sekonda 3347 is interesting too, albeit definitely on the 'too big' side for me: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sekonda-3347.../dp/B005COLZ94

how about try a second hand seiko diver on sales corner? they do midsize too and, easy to sell on if it's not your thing

I think the seiko 4205 is a midsize, I'm not completely sure though

On the other hand, surely even 2nd hand they won't be £18?

Indeed. Decent condition 4205 will likely run you £60+

    Welcome to TZ.

Ask "Can you advise on a nice quartz watch, maximum budget £100" and someone will be advising you to spend £3K on a Speedmaster in 15 minutes and I reckon it won't take much more than an hour before someone says "A Submariner"

You could try a J Springs, made by seiko so better than a Sekonda:

I got one of these for my son:

    Casio MDV106-1A.

Not £18, but it's only about £30 off eBay. Surprisingly good quality for the money ans a genuine 200m WR watch.

Better how? You know Sekonda use Japanese quartz mechanisms, right?

Skoda's aren't crap these days either, btw

And I've now found the sekonda for 14.99, with the blue one at 16.99 which totally makes me want to get both and see what they're like. Will look at that Casio too though, ta.

Still think it's odd that a 38mm diameter watch is considered 'boy' or 'youth' sized! Pretty large really!

Ah from pictures the Casio will be way too big for me, never mind.

Presumably you pasted the wrong link, this being a 4-post thread about running trackers from a forum dedicated to being a mum?

Also I don't necessarily want a "watch for a girl" because they've often got pink dials and cubic zircona all over them. But we've been through this before.

For no other reason than I always suggest Vostoks when someone wants a cheap watch, have you thought about an interesting Russian watch with a manual wind movement? This case size is only 35mm and can be found with numerous different dials. A few NOS examples around on ebay and yours for peanuts.

This one was made for ladies in the Soviet Marine Corps:

Yes actually have looked at some of them! Was looking at some of the amphibians on eBay, are there any specific sellers to recommend?

The full size Amphibias and Komandirskies at 40mm might be a bit large for your tastes. If you want something new, Zenitar is a well regarded ebay seller although small size-wise he only has a couple of very girly looking divers at the moment.
I'd also recommend Meranom http://www.meranom.com/ . Follow the links to Komandirskie Classic then 59 to see the smaller Vostoks. He also has a facebook page if you want ask him more detailed questions about dimensions etc. Both Zenitar and Meranom speak good English.

    £20 ish from Meranom:

Second hand, take your pick of the numerous Russian and Ukrainian sellers. Although some do seem to sell a lot frankenwatches, it doesn't seem to be the case with smaller cadet/junior models. If you do have any queries about a particular Russian watch/seller on ebay, let me know.

I might actually get the one pictured - it says 'waterproof' but I wonder what actual level of WR that is...

Komandirskies are normally rated at 30 to 50m water resistant. Can't say for sure on the smaller models. Probably 30m.

Have ordered one anyway. I tend to wash up, swim and shower without removing my watch but maybe I'll try to be a little more careful...

Another good value brand to check out is Orient. Can be had from seriouswatches.com for a good price.
