Talking Haven't had to put so much effort into sourcing a watch in ages! SORTED :-D

I can't say too much as a certain person in my life may read something on here. However, a momentous occasion is due within the next few weeks and I want a watch as my own memento. I set myself a list of parameters for the watch as I know how easy I flip things (although I'm genuinely not as bad as I used to be!!!) and I can really only find one watch that I think will match up to what I want.

The watch must have all of the following:

    - Mainly an ideal holiday watch that isn't worth an amount that would scare me walking through somewhere dodgy, but still classy enough for a nice dinner
    - Classic styling so that in 5 years when I'm bored of it, it'll still be a watch I admire and I won't want to sell because it looks so out-dated
    - Preferably colourful rather than just a black dial
    - A tough cookie in case it takes a knock
    - A good brand
    - Timing functionality such as a bezel
    - GMT functionality... I'll rarely make use of this but at the least, it'll be handy for making me aware of the time in New York where a friend lives that I speak to a lot
    - Water resistant to at least 100M for swimming etc
    - On a bracelet as I just prefer them generally
    - Decent lume
    - Preferably a see-through case-back

So what have I come up with? This...

...and why can't I easily source one? Because...

    A) They've stopped bloody making it, so I can only go with window stock!!
    B) The dealers seem to not want to give me a decent discount as it's Omega's rules now

I've managed to find two but the discount isn't enough to make me just go for it unless I get desperatley close to the deadline. One is at Heathrow Airport T1's Omega boutique (I'd need to fly through there although I've just PM'd someone who I think works there), and the other is here in Manchester at a regular AD (but there isn't enough discount to make me go for it). In all fairness, the discount isn't a major issue, BUT, the "momentous occasion" has cost me an absolute whack so saving several hundred pounds would be much appreciated right now!! :-D

So, if you're wandering around and spot one of these, please let me know where you've seen it. If it's at an Omega boutique it'll be no good as I'll have found it cheaper, but independents sometimes offer surprising deals so that would be a massive help :-)

There is - or was - one in a pawn shop not far from me not long ago... does it have to be brand new?

What do you think is a fair price? I've seen these new for just over £2.2K on chrono24.

Thanks, yes, sorry, it has to be brand new which is really why I'd like as much discount as possible :-)

I was aiming for around £2000-2200 ideally. The LHR one is more than this but it's the cheapest UK one I've been able to find right now.

A friend of mine is picking one up today from Beaverbrooks. Best deal he could get was £2600 from the £2770 rrp.

Incidentally, WoS also offered the same deal and said they could get one in two days.....they reckon having spoken to Omega, there are only 4 new examples remaining throughout the UK.

I'm guessing you've tried the grey dealers ? They might be well placed to get through the back door from an AD who wants to clear their stock. I would ask Neil at Chronomaster, and perhaps also see what the guys at www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk might be able to source - its not on their website as it's not current, but they might be able to source one.

Give C.S Bedford of Ruislip a call, sure Rob can sort one quick and may have it in stock.

I wouldn't want to pay more than 1500 for one, used obviously.

Can't you pressurize the other person who should not read this post in to buying you your momentous gift for the momentous occasion? Thats what I did....if the momentous occasion is the same momentous occasion I think you mean.

P.S now you got me looking and I love this one....

I can't help but that is a bloody nice watch. Good luck with finding one.

I was going to suggest the Glycine Airman but the chrono version (to give you a timing feature) means it has to be one of the massive ones which will attract more attention and isn't really classy enough for dinner. The non-chronos are available in all colours and sizes and meet your criteria except they don't have timing bezels, only 24-hour bezels.

Otherwise, Breitling Colt GMT (the other GMTs all have 24hr bezels) with blue or silver dial. But like the Omega, discontinued and remaining unsold stock will be hard to find.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

I love this forum... I've sorted one thanks to Racer66's comment above :-D In fact, C.S. Bedford have just found a buyer for life I reckon as haven't dealt with such a personable chap in the watch world for a long, long time. Rob is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and courteous, which is such a refreshing change from the chain dealerships with useless staff.

You're probably thinking of the same momentous occasion lol. However, we have discussed this many times AND she's slowly coming around to the idea of buying me a watch, but said something would need to be asked first. Ahem. :-D

Thanks but the Glycine isn't really a brand I like in general. I see the appeal but that watch would be too big for sure. Also, the Breitling Colt GMT is something I've owned before but where it's the main hour hand that moves in one hour increments on the Seamaster, the Colt does this with the outer 24 hour hand and that never seems useful to me.

Great to hear that, Rob is a great guy to deal with, they have some lovely secondhand stock, and can normally find something if they haven't got it. I enjoy just going in and having a chat. My last chat cost me a £110 parking fine as I parked in a restricted space and forgot while looking at the many lovely watches and trying to source a PO 42mm for my Brothers 30th!

The classic is just have a look at this, he pops back bhind the curtain and comes out with something from the safe, last time it was a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms No Rad, or a DRSD :)

    That's a pricey parking ticket!!

Yeah he just seems really helpful, has given me a follow-up call and I'll shortly be finalising the payment details with him. He discussed some of the pieces they have, including a specialised version of the watch I'm buying which was for a certain section of the Armed Forces divers. I'd love one of those!

They're muppets. I called them and they didn't get back to me. Chased it up, they didn't get back to me again! My assumption was that they can't get the watch from Omega so aren't interested in a courtesy call to say so.

Yes it's very cool in the flesh that one, although I'm in the RAF so I would look silly with it. The GMT Rolex for the ones who dare are even more cool.

    glad you found it Wayne

it's great how the OP mentions a 'momentous occasion' and 'I need a watch' and only one person mentions the momentous occasion and everyone else helps out with getting the watch

    - I love you guys

    congrats on both Wayne

I lusted after one of these for quite some time. Up until last year I had two of them, and sold them both within a week of each other to forum members - both for less than £1500 from memory.
It's just a matter of time...

I'm the opposite. Hated them for years but now it's the only watch that will fulfil my tick boxes so I can't wait to get it :-)

Glad you got it sorted. I had actually text them this morning to see if they had one but it looks like you beat me to it!
I've bought most of my watches from them and don't go anywhere else now. I avoid hefty parking tickets as my parents live a 5 min stroll for the shop!

Thanks Dave, were you looking to buy theirs? I'm going to sort it all out today although I missed a cheaper one yesterday. Doh! Still, that wouldn't have been new and this will be :-)
