    Hunt vs Lauda BBC2 7pm

Is this a repeat or has something similar been on recently? Should be interesting. Formula 1 was still exciting back then.

  2. #2
I have a feeling it's a repeat, but thanks for the nod.

  3. #3
I've definitely seen it before. Still well worth a watch though.

  4. #4
It's definitely a repeat. I posted a link to the original iplayer viewing a few months ago, when they were just starting to wind up the Rush PR.

It's still worth watching again. Especially if you've only recently seen Rush.

It's particularly wonderful for the needle between Caldwell and Forghieri!

Yes, clearly they both still have strong feelings about the events of that season.

They were the respective heads of the Dirty Tricks Departments of the two teams - I admit to being biassed, but Alastair gives the impression of it being a bit of a lark, whereas Mauro seems much more bitter (they lost, and Lauda was lucky to live, so there are reasons for that).

BTW I've just been reading Tyler Alexander's photo book on McLaren, which has got some good images of the team's early years: http://www.amazon.co.uk/McLaren-Insi.../dp/1935007181

...and for a wonderful interview with Alastair Caldwell have a look at the recent podcasts by Peter Windsor (The Racers Edge on iTunes). He's very uninhibited.

Ironically, you might have been better off doing it the other way around. ie watching Rush and then watching this, to see what actually went on.

Indeed. But I am old enough to remember the '76 season very well. I followed the battle throughout the year (supporting Hunt of course), with occasional reluctant pauses for my A Levels and enthusiastic pauses for, um, non-curricular activity that we needn't go into here. That was a good year. Except for the A Levels.

Thanks for the heads-up on this: I watched it when it first went out a few weeks ago and again last night on iPlayer, which means that I've watched it both before and after seeing Rush

No problems with that - it's not as if nobody knows what happens!

I also 'lived' that season live, partially while sweating under the tiles in my university top-floor accommodation in that hot summer, and I remember it well.

This BBC program was great but Rush was just superb IMO.

Agreed, i watched Rush last night and thoroughly enjoyed, quite close to what really happened considering it had to be glamed up a bit.

    Agreed, it's a great story!

Unusually my Mrs watched it too without resorting to laptop/headphones (as she does for Top Gear).

She left before Top Gear, but it is a step in the right direction for her!

Forgot about this and went to watch it on the iplayer and it's not available! Anyone know why at all?

  37. #37
Not sure why not, perhaps it will come up later? We caught the end of this and enjoyed it a lot. It is amazing how F1 has changed over the years, and not always for the better.

  38. #38
I saw last time and watched it again. Great stuff.

Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to go to On Demand. It's well worth it.
