    I'm very tempted.
I asked about the Batory and was told it'll be the same sort of price as the Dzik, so about £200  Want!

Two "Blonie" (small town at the outskirts of Warsaw) products of the fifties/sixties, the "Baltyk"-s (meaning Baltic sea, of course). Content of Soviet parts was to be reduced, new machines were purchased in Switzerland, then Big Brother decided Poland does not need watch factories and generously bought back at fraction of cost the machines.

WODOSZCZELNY means "watertight" (not "waterproof", that would be WODOODPORNY).

Yeah, Big Brother was 'nice' that way.

Not bad looking watches. Would not be bad to own a contemporary Polish watch. This looks good. Nice dial, hands and really like the font

Any chance of a Master Batory?

    Well, somebody had to...

    Re: Made in Poland watches

Batory should be ready this autumn, and then reservations should start. There will be no limitation as such, but I am afraid that when original batch sells out a long wait will follow. I will advise you anyway.
PS I have no connection to G.GERLACH nor other watch manufacturer, Polish or whatever, other than I know personally or via internet some of them.

Interesting, the same as many of you, due to one parent being Polish, he left the place just as the 2ndWW began, just as his village was being overrun by the pesky Nazis, i and my other half visited the place for the first time on the very day that Poland joined the EU, great party in Krakow that night, and a year later we had bought an appartment in Krakow, just on the edge of Kazimierz, fabulous city, we are there as often as we are able.

    Re: Made in Poland watches

It is actually so: In the thirties, three liners were ordered at Monfalcone shipyard. The "M/S Pilsudski" (so named after Polish political leader, full stop), the "M/S Batory" (named after a king of Poland, a Hungarian Istvan Bathory, so elected and famous because of victories against Russia - political reasons evident) and finally "M/S Sobieski" (another king, this time a Pole, famous for saving Austria from Turks by beating them at Wienna, was called saviour of christianity, but was the victory good for Poland, remains questionable). When 2WW started all three ships were evacuated to Britain, "Pilsudski" soon went on a mine and sank, "Batory" was one of the ships, detached for evacuation of British children to Australia and became considerably famous, "Sobiesdki" served in convoys, survived war, but soon after became "donated" to Soviet Union, M/S Batory" returned to Gdynia-New York line travels and did so until sold for scrap in the sixties. Her successor "M/S Stefan Batory" (ex Dutch "Maasdam") continued Atlantic travels for a while. The watch is called after that first liner, extremely popular in Poland, identified with travel to that dreamland of United States.

PS. Yes, Istvan Bathory was a cousin of infamous Erszebet.

Depending on which edge of Kazimierz you're on, you might not be far from a friend of mine in Dajwor. We're off Lubicz and next to Park Strzelecki.

Prices must have been very reasonable in 1990. We bought ours in 1999, when they had risen a fair bit, but were still nothing like they are now.

Again, I thought a topic on progress of a China Watches Forum (name, more or less traditional, not in full agreement with the forum lines of interest) watch project by G.GERLACH, in Polish but lots of pics:
    http://www.chinawatches.pl/viewtopic.php?t=10937
PS. If you look at the (closed) reservation list you'll find "Zinajda" (alternative spelling, on Polish fora) as No.47.
PS2. Name of project is FOKA (meaning "a seal"), certain likeness to a certain four letter word not fully accidental, I'm afraid.

Hello everybody. It is my the first post here and I'm from Poland. With the proud I have to tell you that we have in Poland a few small companies which produce very interesting watches.
    1. Polpora use ETA movement.
    2. Copernicus - very goog quality for good price. They use ETA and own complications .
    3. Xicorr- china movements but very nice watches.
    4. Gerlach - made in china (on the dial made in poland ). Very poor quality watches. The producer use paid people to do good marketing on Polish forums and on WUS and here as I see.

We bought the apartment in 2005, for its size the price was good, and we're very happy with it still.

Chronos-art another polish brand. Watches are designed and made by watch enthusiast Pawel Jankowski.
Chronos-Art timepieces present one of a kind style, in-house made complications (integrated onto the UNITAS 6498 calibre) and brand’s own philosophy of bespoke, made to measure watches.

A guy on another forum I frequent got one of them from eBay, and he's pretty happy with it. Though I think he has the date one.

I've just bought a Gerlach Otago, it arrived last Wednesday and I was absolutely delighted with it. Time keeping is amazing, spot on and the build of the watch very very good overall, I'm pleased.
But what has pissed me off is this, the watch comes with a two year warranty and after wearing it for a few days, when the date changes over, it gets stuck between the two numbers.
No problem I think, two year warranty on the watch, when I bought the watch from ebay the guy's communication was excellent, answered all my questions within the hour.
Now I have a small problem do you think I can get a reply? NO I can't.

    Pete

PS- If someone on the forum could fix this or knows someone who can, please PM.

Oh the Polish Forums Gerlach has very bad opinion. Service in China. The price of Gerlach watches should not bigger then 50 USD.

Well, Solids, you'd better keep mum instead of bringing your neuroses to the public. You know very well your post is full of.... sorry, I do not want to get down that low. Well, shut up anyway.
Accusing me of taking money for my posts (I did not at first understand your poor English, but it seems "paid people" means me) is unjust and stupid of you. Hereby I would like to state clearly, I did never receive any gratification, in money or any other form from G.Gerlach or anybody else (nor, which is sad, ever was offered one).

Sorry for the words, now removed, which might lead tp accusing, unjust of my part, of somebody who has left China Watches Forum recently. Now I am persuaded, the posts of Solids were a provocation, aimed at GGerlach.

I must have missed this thread first time around, very interesting.

I particularly like the look of those G.Gerlach watches; further research required I think

Got a message from G Gerlach where to send the watch for the warranty repair, seems like I was a little previous in my
Post saying I didn't get a reply, as the reply came the next day sorry Gerlach.

If your thinking about getting one of there watches do it, mine is fantastic.

I have issues with Gerlach at the moment, but I won't say anything until it is all over. For now, suffice to say that nothing I have experienced contradicts the negative remarks you read above.

They deserve a fair crack at resolving the problem before I comment further.

I had a Gerlach Otago, and the quality of build and detail were fantastic for a £200 watch. I flipped it in the end because it just didn't suit me, but I was sad to see it go. The dial and case in particular were really nicely finished.

I will have nothing bad to say about the quality of design, and only niggles about the finish (not really what you could call criticisms, at the price)...
