Colomer and Sons - any thoughts?

Spotted an advert in an in-flight magazine. Doesn't look like the usual tat you see in such ads.

    Presumably a Spanish company.

    Yes, there are some Rolex homages but I'm particularly drawn to some of the hefty dress watches , especially the Panerai-a-like one on brown strap 'Ponte dei Sospiri XVII';

Prices of ~ 300 Euros seem reasonable for an automatic and pictures which suggest good quality.

Anyone have any experience with this brand?

No experience. Chinese movement on the dress watch linked to so probably not so different to the back of daily mail stuff in terms of spec and absolute quality, but if the design floats the proverbial schooner maybe that doesn't matter.

not for me but I'm rather conservative in my tastes these days it seems :)

I'm sorta with OP: I quite like that one.

They've got a bit of everything:

    DJ homage: http://www.colomerandsons.com/attempore-silver-1.html

    A few cues here: http://www.colomerandsons.com/captai...ver-black.html

A seagull 1963 homage (they claim it is their homage in the description): http://www.colomerandsons.com/fuerzas-aereas.html

    And some painted Rolex-alikes.

Given the price, I'd not expect a world of quality here. This said, for 300 Euros, and as long as you accept you're getting a Chinese-made watch with a Chinese-movement (neither of which are bad) that looks half-decent, you likely won't go wrong.

And the 10 year warranty? They'd have to be in business to make it worth anything, and (given how many come and go) I wouldn't bet on that.

Only on some. There's a ragtag mix of ETA, Sellita and Chinese stuff, but they do at least state which is which. The Swiss stuff seems no different price or spec wise to stuff from any other European effort so if the design is good, why not. Must admit last time I looked I didn't see the whole range, some nice enough stuff but I'd probably only buy one of the Swiss powered ones and pre-owned only :)

Hmm..interesting thoughts, chaps. I must admit, I didn't look too closely at the rest of the range. The full page pic on the magazine ad featured this Ponte Dei Sospiri XVII and that was the one I was quite taken with.

If by any chance (unlikely) someone has actually handled one of these, please feel free to comment.

@kungfugerbil, I think it's a bit harsh to put them in the same bracket as those bits of tat on the back of Newspaper supplements! :)

It really isn't that different - you can get Colomer&Sons watches direct off Alibaba shipped straight from the chinese factory that makes them alongside Ingersoll / Breytonbach / Stuhrling / Langengrad / AirField / Perpetual and other similar Eurasian watches.

You can get watches powered by the same movement for c100 quid or so - and as mentioned further up, there's nothing wrong with a watch with a Seagull or similar movement in it if that's what you're after. Personally I would rather see that self same movement in something like this as I think the styling on the one you've linked is a little confused...
