My all-time favourite budget watch ( and often, I'd remove the word "budget" ) is the Seiko Monster. A superb piece, original design among a sea of identical Sub-wannabes, totally in-house movement, solid bezel protected by integrated shroud, reference lume, chunkiest spring bars, tough original-design ( again ) bracelet with divers extension, fitting into the drilled lugs via integrated solid end links. The newer version loses the crown with the scalloped edges that match the bezel, for a generic part - a small loss to presumably cost saving. The dial is felt to be improved though. Both versions are a design and execution masterpiece. It's a total horological anomaly at the price.
It's tough too

Love this sort of thread as it throws up options for just about anyone, and pieces I might not have considered. For example the Timex above, and the Orient Bambino. And after 30 years a Seiko 5! I really should track down one of the Seiko military ones now too.
Plus... Has anybody else noticed? No b@tching and moaning!!!!

Not yet with me... But beyond excited!!! Only £150 for this beauty!!!
I like those Christopher Ward watches, being relatively new to collecting I'd not heard of them before but after doing some reading they have very positive feedback
Keep them coming chaps, giving me and others some great ideas for the future.

If you're looking for a budget diver, you can't go wrong with the Apeks/Aqualung/Cressi/Divex (there are several other brandings too)
shrouded 500m watches with a Seiko/Epson quartz movement. I've seen them new from £50 upwards.

Just for clarification, the quoting has gone a little wrong earlier in the thread and that's not actually my comment about them being available now for £70. It was from 'dino7' I believe and the £70 models available at the moment are not the Bambino, as per my earlier post. Still a new Orient though, as you say, and great value but in my view not quite as nice looking as the Bambino which is £80 at the moment.
You don't see too many pocket watches on this thread but this one didn't exactly break the bank.
Nice thread chaps.

One of my favourite threads so far in my brief time on TZ.
Very much enjoying this.
Surprised to see so few Timex on here...always had a soft spot for them as they were my first watch as a lad.
I LOVE that polijot chrono!
Silly question maybe, but I know nothing about them. Where can one buy these?
There's difference between "budget" & "cheap".
I was asked to buy an everyday watch as a Christmas present for my brother in law. I bought a £40 Timex for him. I was surprised how
"cheap" a cheap Timex feels in the hand. The case appeared to be base metal & not stainless. The strap wasn't bad though & it came
with a two year guarantee.

There are a few places. ebay is the most obvious there is a German guy Juri who has a lot of Poljot chronographs but they seem to be a bit excessive in price. Then there is Rus Camera a seller from Russia who has a few at more reasonable prices. There is another seller in Poland (Cant remember his name I will have to check, I purchased from him a couple of years ago) Other than that there are a few German sellers on the net poljot24.de is one that springs to mind but there are a few others.
Not bought a Poljot for years so I will have to check but I am sure there are a few members here who can help you out (One Portuguese chap springs to mind!)
Think you are right , the one I saw http://www.creationwatches.com/produ...1ddff4#reviews
Does look slightly different.
it came like this to me.
It is just an amphibian classic with a modded bezel, i guess.
about the poljot chrono, these are getting much rarer these days.
There are some new similar models out there, labelled pilot,moscow,etc...
Imo the dials of these aren´t that clean as the old ones(Fortis lookalikes) were.

Sure thing, its an early 90s Steffan Johansson Quartz chronograph (with 12 hour rotating bezel and, I think, saphire crystal), apparently he was a famous F1 driver? His watch compnay is still going but you can buy this one in white, blue or black here (price has gone up a tad):

It was a TZUK post that prompted me to look for it.
sorry for the xmas pick, best I have at the moment:

Probably best avoided from eBay, there are a lot of ones out there with replica bits. The centre chromo wheel fails and is pretty much impossible to replace unless you pay Seiko a lot of money to service the watch for you. I'd go far as to say only buy one that's had a recent service. There was one on Sales Corner in the last month, I have no idea if it sold (or if you can see SC yet?).
"A man of little significance"
My lowest value watch - in monetary terms that is. A Christmas present from one of my daughters and a nostalgic reminder of the 1980's
She bought it new from Amazon for £18
I replaced the bracelet with a new Nato from Monkey Swag - a bugger of a job as there is so little clearance between the spring bars and watch body - but well worth it
Great fun to wear!
Great thread this. It's meant a good few additions to my wish list.
So other than the pocket watch (certainly a beautiful item but personally not my cup of tea) I don't think I've seen Hamilton mentioned yet? I picked up a used Jazzmaster Viewmatic for just over £200 and for me it seems like a really great watch for that sort of money. Automatic ETA 2824-2 movement, lovely guilloché dial and a display back.
Sorry, no good picture to hand but plenty on the web.
Yup, got a few that I wear quite regularly ....
One off prototype with an ETA 2836 in it....

Some lovely watches on here folks - I especially like the Mido Ocean Star and Flying Monkey's Omega with the Roman numerals. That said, there are many other interesting and new to me watches in this thread. Maybe to afford some nice pieces I won't have to sell that kidney after all!
Keep 'em coming! This is one of the best threads ever.
Forgot the Aristo dress watch. Keeps very good time I actually swapped it with a forum member.
Then there is the Buran Chronograph for a bit of Russian.
Here are two great Casios that were >100usd each.
The one on the left is the discontinued JDM overland ovw-100tdj titanium solar/atomic watch. It even has a tilt triggered LED light at the 12 o'clock position.
The one on the right is the MDV-102. It also has an LED light, but this is battery powered. Amazingly well made watches, especially for the money.
I forgot to mention, it also has an alarm, though the atomic syncing works only in Japan. I don't keep up with these watches anymore, but do know they pop up occasionally on yahoo japan auctions. And don't worry, you will see an overseas buyer option on the top of the screen.

p.s I just ordered two of the Stefan Johanson chronos. This is dangerous!

Really nice watches in this thread!
