    US Mil straps

I posted elsewhere the link to the US Mil straps on Miro's Time. These are an alternative to the Maratac version as we can't find a supplier outside the USA and the US suppliers won't ship to Europe.

I'd only just ordered a 22 mm True Bond from Miro when a Maratac version appeared on the SC. The Maratac comes with PVD hardward whereas Miro's is polishes stainless and so I bought it and now I have both.

    Here is a short comparison:

...overall they are very similar. The Maratac uses a lighter shade of green.

...as mentioned, the hardware is different, otherwise they both appear well made.

...here's the biggest difference. Miro's strap is a fairly stiff nylon whereas the Maratac is softer and more flexible.

I also bought the 18 mm version from Miro and fitted it to my Seagull 1963 PVD (see link). So I replaced the polished stainless buckle with a black one from SecTime:

It's just a pity that it's glossy rather than matte:

    I recognise that Maratac....

What watch are you putting the straps onto? Just wondered if it's a larger or high watch, the stiffer material may be better (depending on how tight you wear them).
I had a Fortis B42 Chrono and it was tall, quite chunky, and on a softer NATO it flopped about a bit

The 22 mm Maratac has gone onto my UX EZM 2B replacing a grey NATO. Being soft and pliable it holds the Sinn, which is big and heavy, close to the wrist and I like it. The only drawback is the contrast of its PVD hardware with the Sinn's bead-blasted case. But it's so comfortable and convenient that I am now a convert to Mil straps over NATOs.

The 18 mm from Miro got a black buckle and went onto a recently acquired Seagull 1963 PVD: link

Just ordered a couple from Miro, currently converting my Natos to US Mil, wouldn't it be nice if Eddie could get these made, as I do love his Nato webbing

Thanks would be ideal. I really like his bead-blasted, matte grey hardware, which is an option I have yet to find on a Mil strap. Black/PVD hardware is available in the US, but their outlets don't ship to the UK/EU so I think there should be a market these straps from another supplier.

    Try Cousins: https://www.cousinsuk.com/catalog/wa...aps-nato-style

    Satin - Steel Matt Finish
    Stainless Steel (SS)
    Gun Metal - Plated Steel
    Black - Black Plated Steel

Not as good as Eddie's (not possible) but for a couple of quid each...

I like the look of these and think I will order a few to try them out. I usually cut the extra bit of Natos because I like things as simple as possible and to be able to centre the buckle on my wrist - which always seems like such a waste.

Also the buckle matches so much better with a watch.

The only downside to centring the buckle is that the holes tend to go well round the wrist and are quite noticeable on dark coloured straps - not the end of the world though and as in life you have to compromise. If someone offered a custom service I would order them with far fewer holes!

Can't you reverse the strap on the watch? It might feel a bit awkward buckling it up for a time, but the holes should then be on the bottom of your wrist or under the tail end of the strap.

Just tried it - its pretty much the same other than the holes are on the other side of my wrist now!

    Out of sight...out of mind?

I've never noticed them with my US Mil straps:

But I bet you just know they're there.

I guess that I can live with it - just need to keep my OCD tendencies in check

Just ordered 3 Mil traps from the site in the link - looking forward to trying these out

    They do look good

I've been pushing these for a while as a more practical alternative to the nato. There are plenty of sellers (including UK) on eBay that have them for £5 or £6.

  22. #22
I have trouble finding them on eBay, do you have any links?

The other problem with them is that the hardware tends to be polished, at least with Eddie's natos the hardware tends to match the watch and cutting the extra flappy bit off gives almost the same effect.

I wish Eddie gave an RAF option with all his.

Some links, please? And do any of them supply their straps with matt, brushed or black hardware?

Thanks for the list. I too have bought from watchman2711 on eBay. Apart from Heinnie Haynes the rest seem to be in the US and, unless you buy several, the postage pushes up the cost.

Otherwise, I know only of this supplier in the UK:

    Edit
    Update; see this post: link.

Then there is Miro (see OP) in Germany.

I have now moved over to using these exclusively for all of my watches. I have shortened most of them, sealing the ends with a soldering iron

Weren't they long enough to fold the spare back beneath the keeper? I do the that and it's a lot easier with a US Mil strap than some of the NATOs. But I do have one where there's only about 3 mm sticking out which isn't enough to make the fold.

They were long enough to stick out and not long enough to tuck back on themselves!

It didnt take long to trim and seal them

    US Military Straps

I have found some vintage WWII green canvas straps mad by Guss Co in Philadelphia on Ebay
A woman in Oklahoma found a crate unopened of NOS straps
Unfortunately I only bought 6 at $5 each
I just contacted her and she said she sold them all
16mm 9 5/8" long with brass eyelets and tang
They look awesome on Elgin, Hamilton, Bulova, and Waltham WWII watches
