Red face Something rather special arrived today. Pic heavy.

I've been dreaming of owning another one of these magnificent watches since I had to sell the one I previously owned about 3 or 4 years ago.

It's the first, and only watch I've regretted parting with, and I always promised myself I'd get another one some day.

That day is today. It arrived this morning via the forum and it's a beauty.

This is the coveted Panerai 233. It's a K series with the "Dot" dial. In my opinion the best modern Panerai they've made so far. It manages to retain most of the Panerai simplicity, whilst adding some useful complications. Inside, is a P2002 8 day in-house movement with a GMT function, 24 hour marker and power reserve indicator. In fact, this was Panerai's first in-house movement.

The domed crystal is a joy to behold. The way it bends the light gives the watch a huge presence whilst also making it appear smaller on the wrist than the 44mm case size would usually look.

I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Thanks very much to the seller for a super smooth sale, and the Eddie for the use of this amazing place.

Enjoy! A very special watch and I enjoyed the time I owned one. For me the shape of the 1950 case was not as comfortable than the standard Luminor case. Only reason I moved it on.

I also owned this model for a short time. Would love to have it back though, as it's for me the ultimate Panerai.
Although taller than the historic models, it sits very nice. The 1950 automatics on the other hand are a bit too much.

help me out on this one guys as I know very little about PAMs.

Is this a manual wind but with an 8 day reserve? Basically longer than I wear my auto's in rotation.

I really like the case of these ones and the GMT is a nice touch.

lovely - my favourite PAM - remember trying one on in Harrods in about 2007; think the price then was about £5.5k and just couldn't justify the money ....have regretted it many times since

Generally not a fan of the brand but that is a lovely piece.

That's right Ade. It's a manual wind with an 8 day power reserve. So it's thinner than the likes of the 312 which is an auto. Also, there is no rotor noise. These tend to last closer to 9 days too, so you can wear it once a week and it will never stop :-)

Blimey, that is nice. A sucker for a domed crystal. Still not convinced by the PAM date window treatment, but overall - very nice.

The back is prettier than the front :)

Is the dot on the sub-sec dial the 24hr marker?

Congratulations. I sold my last Panerai maybe 3 or 4 years ago and the lure is getting stronger. That's one fine example of Panerai at its best.

    That's right.

The black begins to give way to white around 6am and completes around 9am. White begins to give way to black around 6pm and completes around 9pm. It's obviously linked to the GMT hand rather than the hour hand.

Really impressive. I still very much fancy either a 233 or 275 Monopulsante but they're just such big money that it puts me off. I'm sticking with my 000 for now but that really is a gorgeous watch. Enjoy :-)

Indeed, a very special arrival. I really like this and the PAM268 although the this doesn't have the GMT and am/pm indicator.

Great purchase. Enjoy your new wrist companion!

It's a lovely watch Greg. I hope you have many happy years of use.

Glad I packed it well too!! Would have been a little embarrassing for you to have taken pics of some awful packing by me!!

I think that's why I sold the last one I had. But, now that other watches have become so pricey, I started thinking that now was a good time to buy another.

This cost me much the same as you'd have to pay for a new or nearly new Rolex GMT BLNR.

I have the bezel a cape cod and it's minty all over now. Chuffed. :)
