    Info needed on vintage Daytona

    Guys

I have located a Rolex Daytona 6265 in Chiang Mai, Thailand from an apparently reputable source (although I am verifying). It's in amazing condition having apparently been a display piece in its wealthy owners museum and as such comes with box and papers (in okay condition). The watch itself looks immaculate, looks like it was never polished, seems to operate well (although hasn't been tested) and dates from 1972 or 1973 (the thai calendar differs from the western one and I need to get my maths right.

What should I be looking to pay for one of these? The owner has indicated an offer in excess of 700k baht would be required (around £13k) and I would solely be interested in this as an investment piece, just being totally up front about it. Is this a desirable model at a good price?

I am certainly no expert on old Daytonas. But based on my limited understanding....

The price sounds good, too good....

I would advise to proceed with a lot of caution; and plenty of photos to post on here and other forums. The amount of knowledge people are willing to offer I always find staggering.

Price does sounds good, maybe too good. I thought these should be more like £20k +.

Check out http://doubleredseadweller.com/watch...replaceme.html for detail on dials etc.

Only advice i can give is to get some pictures if you can, upload them and hopefully get someone like MikeWood or Haywood_Milton to comment as they're experts on this stuff.

You do know that Chiang Mai is famous for its fake watch market, right?

Proceed with caution would be my advice , give Mike Wood or Jed a shout and check the seller no wait double check as a lot of money if it's wrong .

    Thumbs up

At that price and with that BS story it's definitely a fake.

No wealthy 'collector' would have a 6265 over a 6263 Daytona in his personal 'museum' and even if he had, he would definitely know it's market worth.

A quick search for Rolex 6265 on Chrono24 says that prices start at USD 25.000.
So based on the price of around GBP 13.000 I would say it's a fake.

Without even seeing the watch, its location confirms it's 100% fake.

Ok thanks all. I'm no expert in these and I guess if it was genuine he surely would have the nous to sell it for its market worth. Will walk away.

    Red face

But if you CAN get some photos, then please post them as it would be interesting to see how good a fake it is. :)

Is there not a local AD there that could confirm it's authenticity?

To be honest it's all moot now as I went to town once I saw Kash's SC thread so money is scarce again!
