Baselworld 2014 - the new(ish) divers so far (around 90 pictures)

For those of you not following Dive (into) Watches (despite the existence of Google Translate :-) ), here's a quick summary of most of the novelties 2014 featuring a dive bezel or that are intended for underwater use (with at least 5 exceptions). So far we have...

Blancpain's new Bathyscaphe Flyback Chrono (the black one was not exhibited)

    48mm Avenger Blacksteel

    Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish Chrono

Bremont S-2000 and Terranova (which is based on the same case)

A simplified additional diver from Cuervo y Sobrinos

New Scubatec variants from Carl F. Bucherer

New dial colour for the DS Action Diver Chrono

    CX Swiss Military Conger

    Some of the davidoff watches

    Doxa Sub Mission 31

Eberhard Centrograf (technically not a diver, but who cares)

Edox GMT and Hydro Sub. More about the Hydro Sub here if interested (German): Link

New colour (wow) for the Sea Hawk III

    New colours for the Scubagraff

Pan Europ non-chrono version (technically not a diver)

    The Nautilus. ;-)

JeanRichard Aquascope with the wave dial

    Linde's white moon.

Luminox P-38 (probably not a diver)

New colour? I remember white/red last year...

    MAT watches

    Mido Multifort Chrono

Pontos S Supercharged with 48mm case

Mühle-Glashütte Kampfschwimmer, more pictures here (German): Link

    N.O.A. slightly re-designed its diver

Omega Seamaster 300, SMPC GMT, PO Platinum and GMT, new Nato straps

Oris L.E. Red Sea and Aquis Chrono

    Pita Oceana

    Ralftech 1977

    New SD

    Schaumburg with a UN bezel

Another version of the Seculus Marine diver.

Seiko Kinetics and the new international Prospex modells with the cal. 4R36.

EZM9 (technically not a diver), EZM 13 and the U1000B, more pictures here (German): Link

Finalised Master PR by Squale and a sandblasted version.

New black case by SuisseMecanica. More pictures (from last year) here (German): Link

Tissot's Seastar range comes with a new colour (red), a different blue and I think new bezel inlays in general (ceramic).

    Tudor Black Bay Blue

    New UN diver.

    Victorinox Ti Chrono.

Visconti Scuba Abyssus. More pictures here (German): Link

    Nautical in blue.

    Zeno.

    Best regards

Cheers Rog, I always appreciate a dive watch summary!

MyOhMy there are some awful beasts on release this year. I don't know when I have seen so much tacky design and brash colours in one place before - probably a clown convention in Blingsville. It's made me appreciate my appreciation of classic designs, and this years more conservative releases, even more.

My thoughts exactly, I am finding it hard to pick one out of that bunch that I would actually buy!

Thanks for posting. A couple caught my eye, I particularly like the look of the new Jean Richard Aquascope. The silver bezel with blue numbers looks rather cool as does the silver with orange.

Fantastic photo report and I thought there were some really fresh and funky pieces there, I think the Omega 're-issues' look a bit dull but I have that 'sinking feeling' -for my wallet- they will be fantastic in reality.

    Cheers Roger!

Love that new kinetic Seiko diver, and with sapphire glass as well!

There are some nice watches, some average watches, some ugly watches, but nothing that makes me say wow!

Thanks for the post! As for the watches themselves... suddenly I'm feeling old. I have rarely seen such a sad mix of pumped up obscenity. A very, very few of them look like watches, the large majority are just statements.

    Thanks, Roger.
    Quite a few to like.
Every year there is going to be a group of people who will bemoan the fact that the wheel wasnt reinvented but, I found several that are potential purchases- new SD, Omega 300m coaxial, Blancpain, Sinn EZMs to name a few.

What does the X-like logo on the Seikos signify?

Even they are mostly variations on a theme. Mad propz (as they used to say) to Roger for taking all those pictures, but the rest are either gash or re-hash. At least it demonstrates that there were more than just two watchmakers at Basel this year!
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Really like the Blacksteel, just a shame it's massive

The Prospex line will be available internationally from now on, and it seems they felt they needed a logo for that purpose (Prospex' x) as Daddel pointed out.

Same here. I think that putting all the photos in one post certainly offers a quick and comprehensive overview, but it probably does not help to highlight every watch individually.
And yes, there are some (many) really horrible or average watches as well... ;-) ...and some brands present their watches in a way that makes it nearly impossible to photograph properly...

Will do a personal best in show again when Baselworld's over.

    A lot of re-issues and look-alikes.

Having seen these you realize just how good some of the older watches like the BPFF and 5513 actually are.

For me the pick of the bunch is the RalfTech - never heard of them before, but a really nice watch.

As for all those chrono's one word - WHY?????

Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Thank you Roger, for going to the trouble of posting. It is a relief that none of the watches displayed struck a significant chord.....I am far more likely to admire examples posted on the next 'Friday Thread'.

I hope they don't adulterate the MM300 and Tuna with that logo. It would be unfortunate for Prospex to finally come to the USA, but only with a new stupid logo.

Delighted to see Breitling have re-issued their SuperOcean Chrono - I have the original - my first proper watch, and my personal all time favourite!

    Thanks to the OP, indeed.

    A mixed bunch, I'm afraid.

One or two nice ones notably the Sea Dweller, Seamasters and one of the Sinns.

Thanks for the upload! Will echo the above comments and say that there are some awful pieces (in my opinion) that just look so over the top! Why someone would actually pay for them is beyond me!

    Totally agree with you.

I rather like that new Seiko though as a tuna fan.

Thanks again for all your stellar work. It's through people like you that I'm able to vicariously *visit* BaselWorld each year.

Rather like the new Squale Masters. Interesting dial and classic looks. Good stuff.

That's a fine example of how to upgrade, update and modernise a design whilst keeping the brand heritage - although I am not a fan of the kinetic technology

...and that should be the last batch:

    SuperOcean Blacksteel

    Patravi ScubaTec bi/blue dial

    Clerc's new bracelet

    DeepBlue DayNight Recon

    Oris Aquis green bezel

Tendence Bunker (proud winner of this year's "smallest minute hand award")

    Victorinox Alpnach

There was a rumor that Seiko was going to release a GS quartz diver. Did that ever happen?

Didn't see one. They did display the two versions of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Diver though... (picture from Baselworld 2008):

Thanks for sharing, I tend to get drawn to divers so a very relevant report on this year's Basel report for me!

What surprised me this year is that it is the first in many years that I do not like the Omega Seamaster line up. It might grow on me but at the moment it leaves me very cold.

That new SD is very nice...

Are they actually competing to design repulsive, garish, tasteless, over sized pieces of tat?

The new SD has my attention but the rest are awful!
