    CWC Chronographs

I like the look of them especially the 1970's remake. However they seem abit too expensive. Does anyone have any of them and could tell me how they find them, and also any pics would be cool?

I have two types in this style...

One is a CWC Valjoux 7765 chrono and the other is
a vintage Hamilton 6BB. The CWC is surprisingly
light-weight. My Hamilton is a bit bulkier and is
more imposing with its polished finish. Unfortunately
this style tends to be expensive; some watches just are!

Thanks mate. I was looking at the CWC that looks like the Hamilton, but at £645 it's way too expensive. My EZM3 is worth more to me then that.

Do you possibly have any divers watches to compare them to for size reference?

    I've

had/have a heap of divers...but none depicted with my MoD chronos. The asymmetrical chrono case is 39mm, but if feels a bit bigger to me; more like 40-41mm.

    What...What a beautiful collection mate.

That's a Marathon in the top right isn't it?

Is it a Yao next to the CWC?

Also what is the size of the Eternamatic on the right of the 2 of them?

got my CWC (see my avatar) from chronomaster for about 400 quid. Its light for a chronograph.

Love the Eterna on the right! :love4: Thanks for posting it!

It's like the vintage version of my modern -

    Thanks for the interest, gents...

Top pic L to R: a Horoswiss custom order for the
    MWR site, based on the Marathon "CCG" (Canada Coast Guard);
to the right of the CWC is a Mk. II "Blackwater" (Bill Yao) made
up to look like a Benrus I.

The Kontiki Super on the right has a 39mm case
but the dial is quite small, so it feels like a 38mm
watch to me. The markers and hand lume were
disintegrating when I purchased the watch, so
it has been re-lumed. Unfortunately there isn't
a way to recreate the 12-6-9 numbers that appear
    in the original markers.

So the Kontiki originally had the polished numerals in in the lume, like the modern? Interesting - it's a shame that they've not survived, but it's still a very handsome watch. Thanks again.

Where would I buy the Kontiki from and what sort of costs? I really want to get the Kontiki Sports watch sometime too.

    Kontiki markers...

The 12-6-9 numbers were printed on the luminous paint in black. It must have been a tricky process 35 years ago.

Hey CR, where did you get the Kontiki on the right from and at what sort of cost if I may be bold enough to ask?

When I decided to go back to mechanicals (as I said in another thread*) I got myself one
of these cheap Citizen to give myself time to choose.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/a ... itizen.jpg

My final choice was the CWC chrono as pictured by ?CR? above and carried on to
wear it on a daily basis for two years. It developed a problem with the minute totaliser
quite early, so I stopped using it as a chrono ... the time only part functioned faultlessly
throughout the period. Eventually I had it serviced and moved it on.

All the CWC are basically entry level ... after a couple of years the bead blasting (around
the lug shoulders) was wearing thin and the metal from beneath was beginning to shine.

Unless you are really set on the bi-compax arrangement, for the price, I would recommend
something like the Sinn 356 Flieger which I understand is even cheaper than the bi-compax
    but not the standard one.

Thanks John. That is interesting. I thought the CWC Chronos were supposed to be reliable? I like the CWC 70's remake but at £645 it's way too expensive.

I am not sure what the current policy is but when I bought mine the warrantee was
only for 6 months. I am not too anal about reliability or this or that. A mechanical movement
can malfunction or stop at any time for no reason at all.

I wanted ?The British Military? look and for that it was perfect ? the only gripe I had was
the 19mm lug spacing but eventually I kept it on a one-piece 20mm braided nylon
which squeezed-in nicely. I liked the watch and had lots of fun wearing it. At least the CWC 70's
remake has a polished case so there wouldn?t be any problems with ?rubbing?.
It might be expensive when viewed next to comparable products ? but for a 60s/70s homage,
made with new materials ... I don?t think it?s that bad. On the other hand you can try and
source one of the originals ... I feel it will be a better option. With a marginally better
    movement too.

In the end I was seduced by a Damasko DC56 which at nearly twice the price it was
more than three times the watch. But it didn't have that 'old world' acrylic look.

    Vintage Kontiki Super...

Hey CR, where did you get the Kontiki on the right from and at what sort of cost if I may be bold enough to ask?
I found it while trolling on Ebay! I used "BUY IT NOW"
about 3 years ago for about 500 euros (I was living in
Europe at the time). It was from a seller in Basel.
It was a strange beast upon arrival. The case and
crystal were (are) both absolutely mint, but the hand
lume had developed holes and the markers had flaked off.
The dial was (is) otherwise mint: it has a nice gloss finish.
I stuck it on an aftermarket bracelet, with the intent of
getting a vintage Eterna bracelet, but I've never gotten around to it!
The prices on these have gone up since then....
