My latest Orient Star, vintage looking WZ0071DG. Just arrived from Japan. I won with 17kJPY. All in, cost me 20.6kJPY including deliveries, VAT, fees. So about $210 in total. Not bad, as new from Japan is just over $400, with Ebay about $700. Here's the listing, which I correctly interpreted as mint and hardly worn, using Chrome to help me out. http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/j...ion/m118052845.

A bargain price! Well done for getting that.

Did you use a shipping agent?

Bought about 15 watches via them. Mostly Orients but found Tudor small rose sub and Tag at good prices for my son. Very professional outfit - recommend them.

I look here: http://goo.gl/6Y2Xt (Yahoo) and http://global.rakuten.com/en/. Every 2 to 3 months FJ have a 10% off Rakuten promotion.

I have an Orient Star WZ0081FE, which I really enjoy. On the bracelet, it is a bit on the heavy side, but well balanced.

Mmm, I've not seen that one before. Very nice indeed. An Orient Star with a compass bezel is definitely quite unusual.

@MarkR, yes and I have put it to navigation use Of course, nowadays the phones can display time, GPS and compass direction. But the old tick-tock and the sun will not need recharging every 12 hours

Had this, the Orient Bambino. Good looking watch, but the sound of the rotor annoyed me a little. I wasn't ready for a dress watch at the time, but I can see myself buying a second one. Bought it for £120

I've got an Orient Ray Mako auto, good time keeping, great lume. It's a shame the end links aren't solid but it's great value for a beater.

I'm interested that no-one has mentioned the Orient slide rule watches. I had a white dialled titanium slide rule watch and loved it. I eventually sold it to fund something or other, but I thought it was a cracking little watch. I'd love to put up a photo of it but stupid Photobucket Mobile is a complete pile of c**p and won't allow me to do it on my Surface.

I'm so sorry, a bit of a red mist moment there...

Anyway, it was a good size, light as a feather and the internal rotating bezel was a nice talking point. Kept good time, too.

Of course I never found out how to use it...

I have an orange and a black version. Excellent value for money, I bought both in December 2013 from an Amazon Uk seller, the orange was £90.90 and the black was £90.81

Well, sometimes all the planets align! Let me explain...

    1. This thread started me thinking again about Orients.
    2. I realised based on another thread that I was missing an orange-dialled diver in my collection since regretfully selling my OM.
    3. Yesterday I sold my Alpha Sundial single-handed watch on SC, so I have almost £100 to play with.
    4. A search on Amazon turned up a brand new Orient Orange Dial Mako II EM75001M Automatic on a Bracelet - for the princely sum of £109.

The result? It's on it's way to me now!

I'm not remotely bothered about the separate pusher, a 44.6mm diameter case should be right up my street and it will be good to have some serious orange back in the collection.

I suppose in a perfect world it would have a sapphire crystal rather than a mineral one, but for £110 I think I can forgive Orient for that...

So it isn't just the cheap ones from Creation that have noisy rotors. That's reassuring

It doesn't. It's the CFD0E00XX-range (aka 'Millenium') that has, unfortunately, been discontinued. It's just automatic.

Very tricky to find it nowadays, especially with the batons rather than arabic numerals.

Just picked up a white Bambino. First impressions: stunning value and an amazing timekeeper. Even the strap is OK really. Since I don't live in an anechoic chamber the rotor noise doesn't bother me one bit.

And it's surprisingly big: that overgrown vintage thing works well. It works somehow, even though it probably shouldn't.

Yes, they are becoming increasingly rare. I sold mine mostly because it didn't have sapphire and because I have been slowly replacing my Orients' with similar Orient Stars'. Big mistake in this case as I have yet to find an OS with such an intricate and good looking dial.

I noticed a few sales posts lately (not here) at quite a high price as well, well-over the prices it was selling at when available...I sold mine for about £100 which I guess quite a bargain I guess for the buyer especially with the hand made/deployment blue croc strap I had on it, made it look even better. I do miss it

It's all dial so obviously it looks big, in fact at 40mm it is big no matter what for a dress. Now you're tempting me, I have already been looking at some Orient Stars that look similar . Too bad they don't have any with curved sapphire, that'd been wicked!

Similar money to the Seiko Shogun when bought new but IMO a better value for money watch with more smile appeal

...and here (finally) is a photo of my Orient titanium slide rule watch...

Bought from SC for £30.00, worn in rotation for a couple of years and then sold on for exactly what I originally paid for it.

Here's an interesting thread on the early history of Orient.

And of course the Orient museum feature on their official site if you haven't seen it yet, plus the factory walk-through video.

I had always thought that the keeper fitted the other way around.
However upon a good old google search, it appears to be fitted correctly.

that's very Z22-ish , wouldn't be surprised to find it was made in the same factory :)

yes, I should think so due to it being in a higher range, probably closer to the marinemaster in quality. Just meant to say the keeper style is similar/identical?

We have two in the family, a full lume dial with a lovely soft leather strap for me and my Wife has one with a little bird cage on the dial that shows a different bird everyday (the feathered variety!). They both keep really good time, the Wife's one especially so, I very rarely have to adjust hers.

Both cost under £80 each, pretty amazing value and I'd have no hesitation buying another, even through to the more expensive titanium dive ones they do.

Heads up fellow Orient lovers...I have been sorely tempted by this as soon as I saw the ad an hour ago, but I already have two from the same line so I would be pushing it, not to mention my budget at the moment is not at its best. So, go on, grab it, Ive dealt with the seller bloke before (Alexander) , hes also a Orient fan like me and I know he accepts Evros as well , possibly pounds, with the current exchange rate, around £200 is most certainly a bargain!
Would be nice to go to a fellow TZ-er!
